True Beadz Retirement 2018 Announced (and it’s Enormous)

This True Beadz blog brings the confirmed details of an absolutely enormous True Beadz retirement 2018. Be ready.. this one is going to be a shock.

Julia mentioned on social media late last year that a retirement announcement would be made reasonably soon. Fortunately she’s giving everyone plenty opportunity to prepare as the official retirement date is March the 1st. On the other hand it is an absolutely enormous retirement which is going to see the face of the True Beadz line completely altered.

True Beadz Retirement 2018

Retiring on the first of March is the True Beadz True Blossom, Blossom True Dangle, True Air and True Taste designs. This will leave the Instants and the True Touch remaining in the glass line. To clarify the above designs will retire in all shades.

True Beadz Retirement 2018 Summary

Obviously this is an enormous retirement. From the first days of True Beadz each colour launched as Blossom, Blossom True Dangle, Air, Taste and Touch. For me it’s always been the Touch and Taste beads that have been really iconic to the line and one of those is leaving too. Albeit we are left with the matte effect Touch beads which I’m sure will please many.

It’s a huge cull and leaves the potential for a very different looking True Beadz during 2018.

Retailers are permitted to order the retiring designs until February the 15th though Julia has mentioned she will likely place a numerical limit on each bead to ensure she isn’t making them for months ahead. Ultimately this means that while there is no need to panic purchase, it’s worth now planning your wishlist for the coming weeks.

In terms of ordering, you can shop via Great Lakes Boutique in the USA or Star Bijou in Germany. In regards to Great Lakes, we’ll be posting a lot of live image parties in the not too distant future as I’ll be there doing a huge amount of photography. We’re just waiting for a sizable restock.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the True Beadz retirement 2018? Do you have any immediate must have beads? Hit the comments and let me know!

Argh!!!! I need more time! I was trying to wait for bead bash to splurge. Luckily I have spent my now considerable free time organizing my collection according to production color inorder to determine what I am missing. I know my list is huge! i have a hard time finding stock of my missing Beadz. I am not surprised though. There are a ton of beads in the production catalog and I can’t even imagine how Julia can keep up with it. Now with a new retailer that means needing even more beads. Hopefully we all won’t need to same colors. Now to go seek some taste beads…

    • endangeredtrolls

We’re waiting on pretty hefty restocks right now. But rest assured that everything on our website is IN stock and ready to ship.

      I predict a rush :O

    • Julia

oh Elizabeth=) when I put beads in the package to send the to GLB I can not believe I made all of the glass… there are just too many of them=) I keep fingers crossed everyone will be fine after checking wish-lists. and we will move to something new. thank you for your support!

  2. Katie

I’m saddened and excited all at the same time. I love the beads that I have. The taste beads were what initially tipped the scales for me. Before those, I enjoyed looking at the beads that you posted, but I never purchased them. The moment that the Taste beads started, I started buying True Beadz. I thought that they were irresistible. I’ve never regretted starting for a moment (although my wallet is much thinner). Now, I’m going to have to carefully review what I have and what I should buy. But, at the same time, I find myself rather excited. I can’t wait to see what comes next. My bet is that there will be even more amazing beads in the future.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah I mean.. this is sad news but there’s also the exciting side where we literally have no idea what the brand will look like after this. With such an enormous retirement there’s clearly plans underway for a lot of new glass designs and that’s good.

It’s better that some beads go so 1) Julia can make new designs and 2) She can then focus on producing good quantities of those rather than trying to spread herself too thinly by making so many different beads.

Of course it’s not great news for newer collectors who probably feel they only just discovered True Beadz

    • Julia

thank you for your comment, Katie! to me the retirement is good and exciting! I feel energy that will be used for new designs, I feel like spring is almost here helping to grow something new=) I hope it will be all good

  3. Nadja

I can’t do Emojis here but it would be the “Munch Scream” one.
What I love about the True Beadz glass is the fact that it is so cohesive; you could do either a colour with different styles or one style with different colours and – besides the Blossom – they were “quiet”, giving a great backdrop to more flamboyant beads or just doing a very elegant, “non-busy” look for a bracelet/bangle. I have to say I’m in a bit of a shock…
And once I get over that I will get my shopping organized, completing sets of colours I already started and getting my hands on “Tastes”.
Love what you do, Julia – but AARGHH!!!

    • Agi

      I agree to you, Nadja.

Yesterday I had a lot of fun with planning further orders of glass beads and writing a list with already bought and beloved beads. On top of the wishlist are Siberia, Strawberry and Eastern Sea (in pairs) in the Touch version, followed by 12 colours in Air, Blossom and Taste. For my collection is is really a pity that all these beads will retire, as I am sure, my bead budget will not allow me to buy all these beads in the near future. I am very sad about this. There are some more colours I wanted to order later, but as these are colours I don’t need so ‘urgently’, it is not so tragic. Spontaneously I have ordered two Taste, one Air and one Blossom at GLB.

I am sure, Julia will surprise us with gorgeous new beads and I wish her all the best for the new collections.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes I agree with you. The designs have always worked very cohesively together BUT that’s ultimately Julia’s vision and that won’t change. It will just be transferred to new designs I’d assume 🙂 It’s going to be an interesting few months!

      • Julia

thank you, Victoria! I am planning to stay true to my vision!

    • Julia

Nadja, no busy-looking designs planned! I promise =) new beads will still be a kind of “background” players, and it also gives a nice chance for me to add more colours!

  4. Kim

The Taste beads are my favorites! I love the texturing and the frosted look. OK, no need to panic, I already have many of my favorite colors. But there are so many colors I don’t have yet… Off to start on that list. I’m sure Julia will be coming out with exciting new products this year, but wow, that is just a ginormous list.

    • endangeredtrolls

I *suspect* that Taste and Touch are many peoples favourites. I’m definitely a Touch fan. I love the Taste beads but I find I wear them less on actual bracelets and bangles. I seem to prefer the Touch texture for *me* and yet I adore photographing Taste.

    • Julia

thank you, Kim! new beads are on the way.

and now looking at that list again. but not as a retirement list, but a list of beads I constantly need to make AND release something new…I just can not do that=) so i hope these are good news, no panic=)

      • Pippa

Julia, you are so nice to come here and comment on our posts. It means a lot that you take the time to this. And hesitate to ask questions about your business decisions but I am very curious also.
It makes sense that you can’t continue to supply beads in so many colors and textures or designs and also have time to experiment and create new beads which, of course, you need to do. But as there is such a demand for your original vision and the cohesive look your beads give, why not hire additional i glass artists to make the basic line of beads. I realize it takes time to find and train them but I assume that’s what other newer lines have done as demand has grown. And I can understand retiring some colors – there are so many.
I apologize if I’ve said too much, it is just hard to imagine True Beadz without that central core of glass beads and selfishly as a new customer it is also frustrating as I have been working on putting together different “sets” of your glass beads in various colors I like to use and there are so many holes to fill in those sets.

        • Julia

Thank you so much for your interest! No worries, I am not switching to something extraordinary or extravagant that can not be used with the current line! And I am thinking of adding more colors but just inTouch finish. About another glass artist. It is a very good question actually! The thing it is not just time to educate. It is also time to find the right person, someone who shares our views. And. The person needs a place where to work, right? And. He/she need all the equipment. So this all together makes it impossible at the moment. May be one that will change, I don’t know. I can not swear that I will forever be the only glass maker at True Beadz, but I don’t see it changing in the nearest future. We just don’t have place where to put additional torch 🙂

          • Pippa

Julia, you are so nice to answer and explain when it is really not my business. It is much more complex and I was not thinking it through and it is not even my area of business. And as my initial shock wears off, I am first relieved that you will still be carrying the Touch beads in a variety of colors so I will have plenty of time to find more in Touch Siberia ,which I just love, and I am getting excited to see what new beads you create! Thank you, Pippa

  5. Holly

This makes me quite sad. As I much prefer the Air and the Taste beads to the Touch ones, as the Touch beads mark easily.

Think I may stop collecting Truebeadz. Don’t like the way they are going… too many limited and expensive beads.

    • endangeredtrolls

Just a quick tip; you can remove the marks on Touch beads with a pencil eraser 🙂

I am sorry you feel so disheartened though

    • Julia

I am sorry this made you sad, Holly. I clean my Touch beads with an old tooth brush with soap under running water. Just when I clean the silver, it takes a second.

May be you will like our new designs better, but I hope you will still enjoy the ones you have in your collection

    • Pippa

Holly, I am also a big fan of the Air and Taste beads. I know what you mean about the Touch beads marking easily. Though happily most that I have seem to clean up when washed gently with warm water and *blue* Dawn dish soap, in fact I generally wash all my Touch beads when they arrive. I had a Siberia arrive with a definite pinkish tinge and was impressed and relieved with how perfectly white it was. Though Strawberry Touch has just not worked out for me, I have 3 and they are all much darker than the Taste and Air ( I haven’t gottern it in Blossom yet – it’s on my “list”.) – as soon as they start drying they seem to look dirty and scuffed again.

Though, with my love of their silvers, particularly the more recent less floral ones I have no plans to stop collecting True Beadz. And am interested to see but Julia will be releasing later in year and hope that the future may still include some non-matte beads and that the shiny ones won’t all be dangles.

  6. Gene

My favorites are the True Touch so I’m still good. Sometimes I’ll notice a scuff mark on the Siberia especially, but it comes off very easily. I’m looking forward to seeing what Julia’s got planned for the future.

    • Julia

thank you, Gene! Touch are my favourites too=))))

  7. Pippa

With a stray keystroke or something, the comment I had been corking on for way to long just went “poof”.
It is probably just as well.

Currently I am feeling a bit shocked and disappointed by this decision, particularly as there is very little stock currently available.

I’m going to leave it at that for now.

    • Julia

if we add new designs to what we already have, the number of beads will be that big, that it would be impossible to keep everything in stock. just impossible.
i hope the new designs will not be disappointing=)

  8. Mary B

Wow! This is huge. My favorite designs have always been the taste. In the Siberian, shadow, linen, and blue mist they remind me of snow and ice. In the darker and brighter colors like strawberry and pumpkin they remind me of candied or sugared fruit. I am glad the touch are sticking around. I am in search of the perfect terracotta that looks like red sandstone which is a frequent part of my local landscape. I think touch beads are perfect stone mimics. Looking forward to more surprises like true potion and desert.

    • Julia

thank you, Mary! I like Touch for the same reason, the “natural” feel they can add to a bracelet. I know Taste was loved by many, but if we had to choose just one line to retire, no doubt it still would be Taste…so, there was no other way

  9. Anne White

Oh dear, this is so disappointing. Was gradually collecting some sets and hoped to complete them over time. I do wish there was a six month period where we could continue to order what will be retired items. I am currently unable to find anyone that has current stock of certain beads and as we are unable to order direct from Julia the problem is compounded. Will we be able to order whatever we want and can afford before the 1st March cut off date?

    • Stephanie

I second Anne White’s comment! Will we have a chance to order the beads that are unavailable on the GLB site?

      • endangeredtrolls

Retailers have to place their orders before February the 15th. We are waiting on multiple deliveries but all this takes time. Once we receive our beads, the website counts will be updated 🙂

    • endangeredtrolls

The demand for beads today has been overwhelming, at least for us at Great Lakes.

Retailers must place their orders before February the 15th and there are limits as to how many Julia can make. We’re expecting a small delivery tomorrow and then larger deliveries in February. As stock arrives our website will be updated.

      • Julia

fingers and toes crossed all packages will travel safe and sound!

    • Julia

Anne, I am sorry you feel disappointed. but! just like Victoria mentioned, the retailers have packages with previous orders that are in production or already on the way. AND there will be new orders placed. So if everything looks sold out now, it is still not the final point, we have beads that are currently at the assay office and there are also beads that were not even sent to the assay office yet. so it is the end

  10. Liz

No!!!! Not Taste and dangles. I’m thinking positive and thankful it’s not the touch and glad we are getting dangles of the month 😊
The Taste beads were the first ones I fell in love with and I came late to loving dangles. I have a lot of dangles but would still like some more Taste, fingers crossed I am able that get some more.
Looking forward to what’s to come for 2018 for True Beadz

    • Julia

not the Touch, Liz! not the Touch=) good thing are on the way <3

  11. Anja

I’m a bit sad. I wasn’t able to get all the glass beadz Ineed because retailers stocks were cleared so fast.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m sorry 🙁 It’s something we’ve been hearing a lot but sadly demand outweighed supply 🙁
