Trollbeads Wings of Amber Live Images & Inspiration

This Trollbeads blog brings live image and a little inspiration for the limited edition Trollbeads Wings of Amber.

Saturday was Trollbeads Day 2018 and as per tradition it was celebrated with a limited edition and commemorative. For 2018 it was the Trollbeads Wings of Amber and it feels so apt! Looking back we have now had silver, gold, glass, stone and an amber bead for the occasion.

I’ll begin this article by stating that I love amber. The aesthetic it gives to a bracelet is totally different than that of glass or stone. I’ve also always been enchanted by the entire notion that those inclusions are a history of our planet. There’s nothing comparable to this material and further to that, it’s dazzling in jewellery.

Wings of Amber comes in two versions. The single bee versions retail at $75. The two bee versions are $115. You can also purchase a full kit for $750. The kits feature nine one-bee ambers and one two bee ambers. I will say that Trollbeads have done a very impressive job of ensuring there’s good variation in the kits. If you’re absolutely fanatical about amber and desperate for the rough green ambers (these are the very sparkling ones,) this could be the way forwards.

Based purely on the stock that came to Great Lakes Boutique, we have seen far more variation in the one bee ambers than the two. Most of our two bee ambers have been the classic honey colour with very few inclusions. By contrast our single bee ambers have ranged from the palest alabasters, through to the rough green and the deep cherry reds (many of which have their own sparkling inclusions.)

Here you can see group shots of some of our two bee ambers.

This said the two bees do seem more scarce. I mentioned at release that the two bee ambers are sold out at Trollbeads USA. The only way retailers can order those is via the kits (where they get one per kit.) Stocks of these ambers are going to exhaust quickly at the US stores I assume (unless more are found.)

I’ve immediately combined my Wings of Amber with gold beads and pearls for a mini bracelet. Regular readers will notice I’m loving pearls at the moment and have been using with with Mamma Mia, Vine of Dreams and now Wings of Amber. The gold core pearls used here are live at Great Lakes Boutique and while I’ve always been sceptical of the price difference for the amount of gold (in the sense of wondering whether it’s worth it,) they are noticeable when worn. That hint of gold really does bring something to a bracelet.

Trollbeads Wings of Amber Ordering Details

Of course amber varies enormously so most people will want to choose these beads from live images. You’ll find a list of my retail partners below. Those selling from live images are marked with a *. Do keep in mind that stores are probably in the process of replenishing stock so I’d suggest keeping a watch on your favourite websites.

Trollbeads Wings of Amber Summary

From what I’ve seen the scarcest type of amber for these beads is the rough green (again this is the very gold, slightly green and very sparkly pieces.) I’ve seen no marbled ambers that have been used for Wings of Amber. Predictably I’ve had numerous emails and messages from people asking for Wings of Amber with bugs inside. I’ve never seen nor heard of any of these. I have a suspicion that Trollbeads wouldn’t attempt to set drill these for the bees. Amber is notoriously delicate (not in regards to general wear, though don’t go smacking it against any walls) but in regards to actually drilling it. Again this is all person suspicions but to risk shattering or cracking an amber that has an insect inclusion is a scary prospect, particularly considering the demand for these. I could be totally wrong.

Like many I’d adore a bracelet full of these beads but do remember a lot of retailers have been listing more general amber unique stock over the weekend. It can be a good idea to get just a few Wings of Amber and then fill your bracelet with amber uniques.

The next question as always is what’s next for Trollbeads? We’re now into June and we’ve already seen the summer 2018 release and of course Wings of Amber. Traditionally Trollbeads have tended to be a little quiet during July and August. Actually it’s not uncommon for bead world in general to be deathly silent over the summer season. It could be that the next release we see is the Trollbeads Fall 2018 collection. (I hope not, that would feel a long wait though usually my favourite release of the year.)

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Trollbeads Wings of Amber? Did you indulge over the weekend? Are you an amber fan in general? Hit the comments and let me know!

I love seeing all your photos, but then, you know I’m rather fanatical about amber too! I haven’t indulged yet, because I want to find one I really love, and am content to wait until I do. And if I don’t find one I love, that’s OK because I’ve got plenty of nice amber already. And I’m always happy to look at your beautiful amber photos!

Amber and gemstones are my definite weaknesses. I think it’s because they are just *so* unique that you know if you pass on the dream bead, you aren’t finding it again :p Glass… well sure it varies in size and sometimes shade but mostly you should be able to find another. Stones and ambers not so…

I want a rough green two bee for sure. Then I think I’ll be okay with just sitting back and watching what appears and decide then whether or not I want more šŸ˜€

Have dozens of Ambers both carved and uncared but Pic #4 has convinced me I need more of the Wings of Amber than the four I already got. Now that I have them in hand I really prefer the ones with a single Bee rather than two but as my two Bee bead is dirty not sure I will exchange it.
Do you have a preference if two or one Bee?

    • endangeredtrolls

No preference here. For me it’s about the actual amber more than the number of bees šŸ˜‰

  3. Sunny

It’s interesting that you have seen more variation in the one bee amber.7
I have ordered mine from Nadia and have seen the opposite. I have ordered two 2 bees with great inclusions and color and one marble one bee.
I am still looking for a very glittery one bee but am fine if I don’t find one. I have enough ambers for a full bracelet but do adore the silver bee applications.

    • endangeredtrolls

Oh yes it’s purely my observation and who knows how the beads were distributed. Maybe we just got a large batch of honey coloured two-bees.

  4. Nadine

These are beautiful beads but Iā€™m wondering how the bees are attached to the bead…… any chance that they would come off??

    • endangeredtrolls

They’ve drilled into the amber and the bees are on short stems. Beyond that I don’t know šŸ™‚

  5. Pinky

I ordered one bead with one bee – very cute, received today. It is beautiful with the bee on it, different look when go on with my whole amber bracelet. And I like its user-friendly for other stones combination style too. The craftsmanship is good and I don’t think the bee will fall off for long term use. I prefer and love the one bee bead to space out in between other general amber. then it would look like more bee rolling around on my wrist. I will buy more, but it takes time.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes… for me it’s about the amber itself.. So I know I’d like another rough green. I have seen some alabaster ambers with some lovely creamy variations running through. A marbled Wings of Amber would be my dream but I just haven’t seen any of those. So it definitely takes time to acquire the right pieces šŸ˜‰
