Trollbeads Uniques – Trollbeads Doraemon and Deck of Cards Kits Preview

This Trollbeads blog brings a preview of some of the new Trollbeads Unique Kits hitting the retailers.

After a hiatus of close to two years at Endangered Troll, Trollbeads Uniques have recently been featuring here quite frequently. I’ve always loved the line but like many collectors I think, it felt there was nothing really new for a long time. Over the last few months though, that has changed entirely.

Following the beautiful Christmas Glitter Kits for the festive season, we’ve had the Trollbeads spring 2018 uniques with the tulips, the summer 2018 uniques with the fish and sea critters and over the last couple of weeks, more new designs have appeared.

Trollbeads Deck of Cards Unique Kits

These first started to appear last week and came as a surprise to me. I had assumed the fish kits would be all we’d really see until the fall season. The exciting thing about these kits being that some feature three premium beads and a critter on top of that. This vastly improves the ratio of the sought after beads in each kit. The deck of cards kits include the footprint designs from a couple of years ago and the popular running man. You’ll find some examples below.

Trollbeads Doraemon Unique Kits

These came as an even larger surprise. The Trollbeads Doraemon Unique (community named might I add,) appeared quite a few years ago in small numbers and they’ve always been so popular. For those who don’t know, Doraemon is Japanese Manga character from the late ’60s and the character has continued to be developed ever since. He’s very cute and appeared in a new set of Trollbeads Uniques this week. Once again these kits feature the footprints and a new style of floral unique. Examples are below.

Trollbeads Uniques Summary

I’m completely in shock regarding the speed at which we’re seeing new Trollbeads Uniques. I’m excited that the brand seems to be breathing new life into the uniques but also that they seem to be listening in regards to the premium to “other” bead ratio. As it stands retailers are tending to sell in either full kits, mini kits of three or of course using the build your own model. (For those who keep asking me by the way, we will be doing the latter at Great Lakes but after the launch of the new website.) If three premium beads becomes a standard, it at least makes selling in duos more feasible and that would be great news for collectors.

For those interested in uniques, Great Lakes Boutique have these kits live at the moment but they are selling fast. Blooming Boutique list new uniques almost every day. Trollbeads Akron often ask you to contact them directly.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on these new Trollbeads Unique Kits? Hit the comments and let me know!

So essentially Trollbeads is remaking rare older ooaks that collectors spent a good bit to acquire because of their rarity, and they were special to have in our collections because of their rarity, are they now going to be made en-masse, like the Running Man, so they will be common place and easily acquirable? I’m wondering if they will now start remaking other rare or museum beads like Classic, Six Bands, etc, to make those almost worthless in a collection as well. I’m curious as to why instead of simply coming up with new designs they are revisiting older designs that should be left alone and allowed to be special in a collection. If they continue redoing rare designs they are no longer rare and our collections will hold no more value than the current retail cost of the “special beads”. The acquisition of rare oldies and special beads is what makes our collections valuable and an investment versus just a bunch of beads on a bracelet that we can get from multiple brands. By remaking rare beads en-masse what they are doing is ruining the value of some huge collections and taking away from what some collectors enjoyed in the first place, the hunt. If my collection is no longer valuable because every rare bead I have it in is going to be remade, and I have noticed another brand doing this lately as well, then I am no longer interested in collecting as an investment and will only purchase a bead if it works with a bracelet, or simply just lose interest. I will no longer spend money on a rare or limited bead because there is no longer any such thing as “rare” or “limited”, everything will be remade or brought back. My feelings, not happy with my collections value now taking a hit. Trollbeads is going to end up being just another Chamilia.

For me there is a slight difference between uniques reappearing and something that has been retired reappearing.

When Trollbeads (or any other brand) retire a product, by definition production ceases. They are publicly putting it out there that it’s ended.

Uniques aren’t quite like that. They don’t enter the collection.. they don’t really have a “status” aside from unique. At no point have the brand ever declare a certain unique design is retired and that’s it.

That’s where the difference is for me.

Of course it also depends on why an individual person collects. There’s quite a difference between the people that do view their beads as an investment and those that just want a certain design and are happy for everyone else to have it too.

However I do appreciate your opinion and I know it’s shared by others in regards to the uniques as well.

In regards to revisiting older designs. I don’t mind this if a new angle is brought to it. With Ohm Beads for example I thought Baby Argh was a super cute idea for those who missed Argh. I think Big Luna is great for people who missed Luna (though of course they need to like the size.) I don’t believe in outright reproductions, especially not if a bead has been numbered. I don’t object to them revisiting an idea with new eyes though.

I don’t really think trollbeads have investment value. We have a coyote to sell ,how much do you want to pay us for it? So I believe buy what you enjoy.
