Trollbeads Spring 2018 Uniques Live Images & Inspiration (Trollbeads Tulip Uniques)

This Trollbeads blog brings live images and a little inspiration for the Trollbeads Spring 2018 Uniques and specifically those amazing new Tulip Uniques.

Trollbeads Uniques have always been a real selling point for the brand. What originally started as a way for the brand to sell practice designs became a wholly iconic series and one other manufacturers have adopted. Uniques have always been the topic of extensive debate however. Popular designs have often been incredibly rare and this led the way to resellers flipping beads for high profit margins. Uniques are sold to retailers in full kits, usually with just a couple of desirable, leaving retailers increasingly loathe to split those sets. For a long time no new designs seemed to appear either and the unique market felt a little stale. Over past half a year or so, there have been moves to breathe fresh life into the range and I’ve really been enjoying watching what has appeared.

New Trollbeads Summer 2018 Uniques have now hit retailer shelves but today I want to focus on the last of the kits we saw for spring; the Trollbeads Tulip Unique Kits.

Trollbeads Spring 2018 Uniques

We’ve had a three distinct series of uniques for the spring season. First came the sets with the bugs but these seemed incredibly scarce. The two special beads in each of these kits were the new bugs and a single Armadillo.

Following that we had a brief stint of Armadillo kits, with a single ‘Dillo per set. At the end of April came the Trollbeads Tulip Uniques. These initially appeared as jumbo uniques but it was lovely to see them in their smaller versions too. I’m a little unsure as to whether these have now been replaced by the new summer kits, or if we’ll still seem them circulating. These kits contained the Tulip Uniques and new styles of Peacock Feathers.

Here’s a few examples of the kits we’ve had at Great Lakes Boutique.

The Tulips have been seen in a pretty wide range of colour though I have a certain weakness for the red versions. (They just feel the most apt to me.)

The Peacock Feathers have been quite different to the original Trollbeads Peacock Uniques from the Small & Beautiful Kits. In my eyes that’s a good thing as just repeating older designs isn’t the way forwards. I particularly love the feather designs that have incorporated more than a little of the Armadillo look.

The Tulips are beautiful for the summer so I’m sharing just a little bangle inspiration for them. It uses the Trollbeads Blooming Katniss Pendant which can tie together two carriers. I’m loving this piece for the summer. It’s so focal and unusual. If you haven’t yet indulged in this, I’d definitely recommend it. The two silver beads on the top bangle are the new Ripples and Seagrass from the Trollbeads Summer 2018 collection. Both are quite small which makes them ideal for bangle wearers but I love their abstract design as it makes them so versatile.

On the bottom bangle I’ve used the two Trollbeads Sunbeam Spacers. Do remember there is currently a buy three get one free offer on decorative spacers in the USA but it ends on Tuesday.

Trollbeads Spring 2018 Uniques Ordering

Obviously ordering uniques isn’t as simple as ordering production beads. Nevertheless below you’ll find the links to all of my Trollbeads retail partners. Currently we have the kits listed at Great Lakes Boutique but you may find you have to contact your favourite retailer directly to ask about current stock. Remember also that for both the UK and US markets, the Cerulean Jewellery Case is currently offered as a free gift with purchase and buying a full kit of uniques certainly qualifies for those.

Trollbeads Spring 2018 Uniques Summary

Readers who have been following me for a long time will know I’ve discussed uniques endlessly over the years. I’ve always hoped that the brand would move towards complementary designs. I personally thing they should be seasonal, making them available long enough for those collectors who want them to acquire but short enough to keep them feeling fresh. So far in 2018 I’ve been thrilled with the direction Trollbeads have taken with these. New kits are just arriving at retailers each of which includes two sea critters (see some examples here.) These work amazingly with Blue Ocean and seem set to be available through until September. September is of course when the Trollbeads Fall 2018 collection will launch and it would be amazing to see them change the uniques again at that time to work well with whatever the new season brings us.

Admittedly there is of course still the frustration with being pushed towards complete kits but still for now I’d rather focus on the fact that we are seeing new designs in both jumbo and classic unique sizes.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Trollbeads Spring 2018 Unique Kits and did you indulge in any of the Tulips? Hit the comments and let me know!

You know, I would be perfectly willing to pay a premium price for a premium unique if I didn’t have to buy two or more beads I don’t want along with it. Since I don’t live near a store that sells Trollbeads, and can’t design my own kit or mini-kit with beads I like, I just get frustrated seeing beads I love that I can’t buy. Why can’t Trollbeads just make more premium beads and sell them individually at a higher price? Thanks for the opportunity to rant!

You’re always welcome to rant and I’m aware this is an emotive subject in bead world.

I both sympathise with the collectors (because ultimately I still am one) and the retailers (cause ultimately I’m employed by one.) I do wish I could sometimes have the privilege of listing to Trollbeads’ (as in corporate’s) take on this but of course that will never happen.)

Right now I’m just trying to focus on the fact they’re at least making new designs again after what felt a very long time of nothing much happening with the uniques (at least the small ones.)

The tulips are quite lovely (tulips happen to be my favorite flower). I like seeing your bracelet which utilizes several. If I could buy a tulip by itself, you’d have me for sure. Probably for several in different colors. But I am long past the day when I’m going to buy additional beads I don’t want just to get one I do. I have so many unused uniques jut sitting in my bead box right now. And most of them are pretty beads, but it’s just way too much. I pretty much cut the cord on Troll uniques a few years back. I see something, like these tulips, and get tempted every now and then. But not enough to spring for a kit, or even a trio. I understand why retailers do it; they’re in a tough spot too with the way Troll makes them buy the kits. But it’s just not something I’m willing to put up with as a consumer.

Right now I’m just happy to see new uniques I must admit πŸ™‚ I see both sides of the argument with the kits but I don’t see anything changing any time soon so I’m just focusing on the fact they are actually making new designs again πŸ˜€

  3. Susan Lloyd

Love the tulips and sea creatures just wish other countries had them they only seem to be available in USA 😒

    • endangeredtrolls

The new summer kits actually went to Europe before they came to the USA. We’ve been sat waiting on them and stocks literally seemed to arrive with retailers yesterday and today :O

But I understand because it is the first time that’s happened in a while I think πŸ™‚ Most retailers do ship globally though πŸ™‚

  4. Patricia Steiner

I love the tulips and would love to have at least one. However, kits are really beyond my budget. I tend to buy my beads two or three at a time. I’ve acquired quite a bit of Troll over the years. I just can’t do large amounts at once. My other complaint about the kits is that there is always at least one bead I can’t use. It seems there is always an oddball that doesn’t work for me.

    • endangeredtrolls

There are some retailers that offer the “build your own kit” parties and they will sometimes sell in threes rather than sixes πŸ™‚ In regards to the one oddball bead – I agree. Though I don’t worry too much about those since one of the beads is always free anyway πŸ˜€

  5. Corrie

I am not buying either, because I don’t want to buy two or 5 extra beads I am not interested in! The unique set is in a small booklet in Germany, but the set is nowhere to be bought!? Again, extra beads I am not interested in! If you buy in the USA you have to pay an extra amount for customs, due to tax payment and handling, grgrgrgrgrr Why don’t they just make beads the people are “dying”to pay for?

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had issues buying from the US πŸ™ For the summer kits it seems that European retailers received them first this time πŸ™‚

  6. Lola

Pretty beads, lovely pictures. I especially love the strawberry colored bead, the green on the tulip looks like Poseidon’s trident. πŸ˜€ More so on that color combo than on a couple of others.

    • endangeredtrolls

The pink base tulip SEEMS to be one of the rarer ones from what I’ve seen. We only had a couple of those.

    Hi Victoria,

Do you have any pictures of the summer uniques? I seem to have overlooked those. x
