Trollbeads Spring 2018 Live Glass Comparisons

This Trollbeads blog brings live image comparisons of the Trollbeads Spring 2018 glass, now available for pre-order!

Today saw the start of the pre-orders for the Trollbeads Spring 2018 collection though please do remember that the beads cannot ship until the official release date of January the 19th.

The glass this time are bright, vibrant and cheerful and of course there is a little individual variation as we’ve come to expect. Today I’m sharing group images of most of the new glass. Unfortunately I (stupidly) forgot to take a couple so I’ll add those in at a later date.

Trollbeads Spring 2018

Two of the glass designs proving most popular are the Trollbeads Prehnite Peacock and the Trollbeads Garnet Feathers, both of which channel the peacock motif though in drastically different colours.

Garnet Feathers varies in terms of it’s specific shade with examples ranging from hot pinks to quite pale shades. The base of this bead is actually a pale blue and there’s also differences in how much this shows through the surface pattern. That said all the ones I have seen have still been well executed.

The Trollbeads Prehnite Peacock shows a little more variation which I think is to be expected considering the complexity of the design. The colours do seem quite consistent on these beads but again the differences seem to be more with how much of the white base shows through.

The next two favourites seem to be Illusion and Temptation, both from the Wonderland Kit. It’s the same design in two different colours and for me they have almost an Indian vibe with their beautiful colours, gold glitter details and teardrop patterns. The variation I’ve seen is primarily in the shape and size of the aforementioned teardrop.

One bead I really love but think is perhaps being overshadowed by the flashier peacocks is the Opal Jaguar. This has a cream base with eclectically shaped emerald green markings. Obviously any bead that tries to imitate an animal fur will vary a great deal and these do. They’re an amazing transitional bead though. The colours aren’t quite as overwhelming as some of the designs for those of you still staring at snow and blinking away holiday sleepiness. I personally feel it’s so versatile!

The Sapphire Cheetah has a similar pattern but I was quite shocked at how vibrant the colour on this bead is. It’s an absolutely stunning shade in person.

Two designs that I think may fall into a love or hate category are the Emerald Tiger and Topas Tiger. These feel very far removed from the usual Trollbeads style and while I like the beads, I’m not sure they will be universally loved. The Topas Tiger in particular seems to very in the precise shade of blue.

The final three beads are the Trollbeads Blaze Stripe (green,) Stardust Stripe (purple) and Gleam Stripe (teal.) Of these I only have group images of Gleam Stripe though the purple Stardust is spectacular in person.

Trollbeads Spring 2018 Glass Summary

I still haven’t seen the silver beads “in person” so I can’t comment on those just yet. Hopefully they’ll arrive in time for the actual launch next week. The glass are impressive however. I was initially quite indifferent towards all of the stripe designs as they felt too similar. Stardust Stripe has become an absolutely favourite and the Blaze Stripe is such a powerful colour.

I love your bangle combination, Victoria! I don’t know if it’s the Jumbo Flower Unique or the Stardust Stripe with the Amethyst, or just the blend of everything…but it is beautiful.

    • endangeredtrolls

Isn’t it pretty?! It’s so rare that I’m REALLY happy with a design I make but I love that stack πŸ˜€ Those jumbo flowers are just sooo beautiful too.

  2. Pippa

Your stack is beautiful and I think I’m going to have to take a second look at that purple glitter stripe bead. I sort of skipped over it focusing on my vision for peacock and teal and am going with different accent colors, but I didn’t think about how it might be nice with other beads I have. (Duh.) πŸ™‚

Once again I really appreciate your detailed analysis of the variations in various glass beads – it helps me to see the beads that I like more objectively and break them down in a way that helps me select others which is nice when I want to build a sets.

I really like Opal Jaguar and was just to tired last night to give it’s selection the attention I want to. I haven’t checked yet but I’m hoping there are some good choices left. I also want to take another look at Sapphire Cheetah.

Last night there were so many live pics at GLB, a very impressive selection. Kudos to you and the entire team at GLB!

    • endangeredtrolls

In fairness I keep looking at out live images of Stardust Stripe and we’ve none done it justice. It’s SO pretty in person and well… you can see in the social media images it’s really sparkly and glossy πŸ˜€

Opal Jaguar is one of the hidden treats in this release. People are going to overlook it because the other glass is flashier but its so lovely for a late winter bracelet πŸ˜€

I’m so pleased you enjoyed the images though πŸ˜€ We ordered more beads today so I guess we’re doing it all again next week πŸ˜‰

  3. Lisa G

I love the jumbo flowers, but haven’t been able to bring myself to buy a whole kit to get one:(. I love the glass in the new collection; I bought 2 of each animal bead and one each of tbe purple and green stripes. πŸ™‚

    • endangeredtrolls

Aaaw, I’m sorry about the flowers πŸ™ Hopefully you’ll get lucky and find one individually one day πŸ˜€

Hopefully you’ll love the glass! πŸ˜€

  4. Linda Jo

Just one quick impression— the Sapphire Cheetah beads are so disappointing, not at all like the stock photo. Just straight dribs and drabs of blue, not cheetah spots. How diplomatic of you to call them vibrant!

As usual, the glass will have to be hand-picked , in person or from good photos.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’ll agree that it’s not necessarily an animal print but I really love the colour! I still think all of the animal print glass is going to be love or hate though.

    • Pippa

I had to laugh at your comments Linda Jo – “straight dribs and drabs ” is such a spot on description. They should have named it something else.

It is a beautiful color though and Bead #4 in the first and third pic (I think it’s the same bead) is inspiring me to try to find two similar to it that will make a nice pair. So far no luck.

  5. Belinda Lister

I love the tigers! However, I’ve just discovered glass beads are now Β£30 in the UK. I’m priced out the market sadly.

    • Lisa G

I looked that up and it’s a little over $41usd. They are $35 here. I thought trollbeads was trying to do a price balancing. That’s almost 20% more for you!

      • endangeredtrolls

But that’s precisely what they wanted to do. EU customers pay VAT on purchases. UK VAT is 20%.

The price balancing was to make it more fair for US retailers. Otherwise when a US customer shops at an EU based store, the VAT is deducted. That as making it cheaper for customers in the USA to shop abroad. So that 20% difference is precisely what evens the playing field.

Of course that doesn’t make the British collectors feel any better right now

        • Lisa G

          Got it.

  6. Lisa G

One thing that really struck me as I was buying some of the new trollbeads, though, was how reasonable the prices are compared to pandora, which averages probably $65 to $70 a bead, with some at $90.00. I’m glad I am mainly buying troll and the occasional ohm and RBF and True Beads now.πŸ˜ƒ

    • Nereida

Lots of Pandoras are in the 45 – 50 range. The CZ ones are the expensive ones. These days Ohm is averaging 70 – 80, with some beads going for 150. RBF and True Beadz are reasonable.

  7. Kim

Great photos. Victoria! It’s really helpful to see the variations in the glass. I like the animal print kit a lot, although I don’t feel like I need to immediately run out and buy it. Rather surprisingly, the ones that are most striking my fancy are the Emerald Tiger and Topas Tiger. I can see a fun bracelet using multiples of those. Maybe with some stones for contrast- hmmm, onyx would be striking, but amber would be fun too. Argh, now I think I’m not going to be able to get that idea out of my mind, lol. Gotta prioritize though, and I think I want to try to find more True Taste glass before it vanishes for good before I turn my attention to these.

  8. Emma

Preorder a pair of the prehnite peacock at 30.00 each so that’s it poor purse.

  9. Lola

I pre-ordered 2 Opal Jaguars, that I think will look great on my copper bangle, and I got 2 Topaz Tigers, and 1 Cheetah. πŸ™‚ I think the tigers and the cheetahs are fab. Look at them sideways — they’re awesome, like cave art. I’ll get more of them later, I think. This is such a fantastic collection, even if the pieces don’t “match” the animal titles, there’s an evident wildness about all of them. Some pieces are too busy for me to wear, but I appreciate them all.

  10. Jamie

I have to say my favorite glass is absolutely the Opal jaguar, everything is see it in fall in love with it more. The one I am most disappointed with is the sapphire cheetah.. the stock photo convinced me it might be worth it but now I have no interest. I hate when that happens but oh well I do hope the color makes up for that for those seeking wanting it. I am just so excited to put my green bracelet back together with a touch of neutral and animal print. Now I need to get myself another Leopard silver bead and play around. Can the 19th get here soon enough 😊

  11. Joyce

This release of glass beads leaves me flat. Maybe if I see them in person, I will like a few, but as it stands now the only two I might consider are the Illusion and Temptation beads. Their colors are beautiful, and they may be worth buying. I do like the silver beads, especially the Response bead, which would look great as a focal bead on a bangle.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m so sorry to hear this! πŸ™ Hmm as for seeing them in person.. I liked them from the preview and still liked them in person so it’s difficult for me to offer much there. I am happy to hear that you’ve found silver beads you like though πŸ™‚
