Trollbeads Shimmer Royal Review

This Trollbeads blog brings a dedicated review of the limited edition Trollbeads Shimmer Royal, otherwise known as the Black Friday 2017 bead.

Late last month the Trollbeads Royal Shimmer debuted for Black Friday 2017. When images were initially leaked rumours circulated that it was actually the same glass as on the Wishful Sky Bracelet. Obviously this isn’t the case though they are similar in some respects. As with all of the Black Friday beads to date, it’s a limited edition and it’s retailing at $56, โ‚ฌ51 or ยฃ45.

Trollbeads Shimmer Royal

Shimmer Royal is a faceted bead created by Lise Aagaard. It does use a Trollbeads classic core so it’s not compatible with Ohm Beads or Pandora charm bracelets. From what I’ve seen these beads are reasonably consistent and I was fortunate enough to be able to photograph a lot of them.

The obvious question I was asked by many readers ahead of the release pertained to the exact difference between Shimmer Royal and Wishful Sky. Firstly though you can’t describe Shimmer Royal as purple, it would perhaps be best described as an indigo colour. The base glass seems to be a very inky blue shade but there’s a hint of purple sparkle. Aside from that, Wishful Sky has bright flashes of colour. These are mostly an azure blue shade but one of mine has a turquoise colouring too. The glitter particles seem little larger in Wishful Sky too.

In the images below Wishful Sky is to the left and Shimmer Royal to the right.

These beads were always destined to join my Wishful Sky Bracelet which I’ve been wearing daily since it’s launch. Celestial is the focal point. Two Shooting Stars are located here and my single Lovesome Spacer. Hopefully this will also give you a little insight as to how the two glass can work together.

Trollbeads Shimmer Royal Summary

I think Royal Shimmer is a super pretty bead but that aside it’s ideal for those who wanted multiple Wishful Sky glass but couldn’t justify the expense of the full bracelet just for one component. The two complement each other so beautifully but are also distinctive enough to be distinguished.

I always get asked how long a limited edition will be available and it’s impossible to predict that. If you love the bead, buy it sooner rather than later and then the stock levels are of no more concern to you.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Trollbeads Shimmer Royal and did you indulge in this bead? Is it still on your wishlist? Or perhaps you’ve already purchased one (or two) but want more? Hit the comments and let me know!

I absolutely love how you styled this bracelet. The perfect amount of sparkle and feeling of luxury. The black Friday bead looks like a faceted blue Goldstone to me. And gives a deep galaxy feel next to the bright blue of the wishful bead. Too pretty for their own good ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • endangeredtrolls

It’s not dissimilar to the blue goldstone actually; well spotted ๐Ÿ˜€

I’d like a second gold stopper for this bracelet but other than that, it’s done. It’s actually already a little more “full” than I would like but on the other hand, it’s well balanced.

      • Jamie

Yes I think it’s perfect, not too full but very bold in style. I’d love to wear it every day ๐Ÿ˜ I love my bracelets but sometimes I got to a bangle to have less. I have yet to make a less full bracelet and I’m getting closer to doing so thanks to inspiration from you ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Gene

Your bracelet is beautiful, Victoria! I love both the Shimmer Royal and Wishful Sky beads, they are on my long list. And some day I am going to get the Shooting Stars…two would be very nice.

    • endangeredtrolls

Aaaaw thank you ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m not sure stock is on either of the designs you mention but both are limited editions and I know via my role with GLB that they’ve been *really* popular! Shooting Stars isn’t going anywhere at least ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. MaLa

the Shimmer Royal is one of those beads which I want to look at all day long, the colour with the added sparkle is absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah.. I agree! Which is also why I think people should probably stock up sooner rather than later. I just don’t see this bead being around THAT long. It’s been so popular!

  4. Marie

Your bracelet is very, very pretty! I think both of this seasonโ€™s limited edition beads (Royal Shimmer and Wishful Sky) not only play well with each other, but look great next to gold. I did buy into both beads, and they are currently gracing a bluer than blue Christmas bracelet… but, Iโ€™m already planning a Polar bear bracelet with the same beads – I like to think that the night skies where they live is equally exquisite with starry nights the colors of these beads.

    • endangeredtrolls

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜€ I really like that they complement each other so well. I don’t really know how everyone else feels about that. I know I had a few people contact me just before Shimmer Royal’s release, still confused as to whether it was a different bead or the same and then asking why it was so similar. Actually the two are very distinctive but the theme is surely close.

I LOVE it with the gold. There’s a lovely sapphire with me at the moment that I’d rather like to keep and I debated if I could add it to this bracelet. The issue is I still don’t like full bracelets so I don’t want to make it heavier and then not wear it!

      • Nereida

You’re so different from me, shoving as many beads as I can fit on a bracelet. It is very similar to Blue Goldstone. I had a chance to visit Trollbeads NY, and decided not to indulge as I own many Blue Goldstone, most of which are on my Star Wars bracelet.

  5. Maria

Wishful Sky, Royal Shimmer and Shooting Stars , a dream combination, I’m so happy I finally indulged with a second shooting star. ๐ŸŒŸ
I’ve put mine on a necklace, added two Redbalifrog pinecones and snugged them all with a silver star bead on both sides , wonderful ๐ŸŽ„

    • endangeredtrolls

Oh I bet that looks beautiful and I agree with you completely about the dream combination part! I’m honestly still fighting with myself about a third Wishful Sky Bracelet…

      • Maria

Don’t go for a third ๐Ÿ˜„ Go for a third and a forth, really it gives so much more possibilities, you won’t regret it and lot’s of good things comes in pairs and it’s a limited edition, when it’s gone it’s gone …and …and ..
Really, I’m very happy playing with my four wishful stars ๐ŸŒŸ

  6. Beth

Gorgeous bracelet, Victoria! I love how you’ve put the components together — the Wishful Sky and Shimmer Royal glass, along with the silvers, golds, and the sparkle of the Shooting Stars’ diamonds. Every so often, I like a sparkly bracelet rather (or along with) my usual more organic ones. This one definitely sparkles, and in such a lovely way. The golds compliment the other beads wonderfully. Some day, I will get Celestial! I indulged in two Wishful Sky bracelets as I wanted pairs of both the glass and the shooting stars. I’m so glad I did, as I really like how easy it is to just wear those beads together for a simple and attractive bracelet. I purchased one Shimmer Royal and am thinking about a second one, as I really like how you balanced both pairs of glass. Your bracelet is festive and just right for the holidays. For those of us who love all things starry, it’s also something we’ll get lots of use from beyond that.

    • endangeredtrolls

Iโ€™m so pleased you like it! Iโ€™m not a huge fan of Christmas so I prefer more winter themed bracelets and this works on that level for me.

You absolutely need a second Shimmer Royal! They always work better in pairs. Iโ€™ve actually been debating a third Wishful Sky but if I do that, am I just going to want a fourth for balance?

  7. Jess

Iโ€™m in love with shimmer royal (and wishful Sky). I love that they are similar but still so different. I think Trollbeads planned this out very well. I indulged in multiples of both. I am wearing them together with 2 ohm night sky beads. Also using them with the new TB star silvers and 2 ohm stardustโ€™s. I call it my stardust bracelet. Ever since the celestial themes were announced I couldnโ€™t wait to put them on a bracelet together. I wasnโ€™t sure if the glass would work together but they look fantastic!

    • endangeredtrolls

I agree completely! I think it was very cleverly done and I personally appreciate that they complement each other but are distinctive.

I have a really bad feeling that if I don’t get more of both I’m going to regret it. Normally I try to limit myself to pairs but this time I’m not so sure ๐Ÿ™
