Trollbeads Retirement 2016

This Trollbeads blog brings the details of the Trollbeads retirement 2016. It includes the details of the upcoming Trollbeads Collector’s Dream Sale

It’s now been two years since the last Trollbeads retirement. This is actually quite shocking when you consider the sheer number of new products the brand are launching on an annual basis. Unfortunately as predicted January 2016 will see a retirement.

For the benefit of newer collectors, the beads featured here will cease production at the end of 2015. Trollbeads do not recall products in the way Pandora do so stocks remaining at both retailers and distributors will continue to be sold. Obviously these stocks will dwindle but these days it tends to take a decent period of time. There’s absolutely no need to panic buy any of these products. That said the Trollbeads Collector’s Dream Sale will begin just after Christmas with reductions on all retiring designs.

Trollbeads Retirement 2016

The list features glass, silver, gold, locks and jewellery pieces. I have to confess there are some real surprises in this list for me, though other designs I’d predicted (mostly based on the preview of the Trollbeads Spring 2016 collection.)

Starting with the glass beads, six complete kits are exiting production. These are:-

  • Trollbeads Chocolate and Cream Kit
  • Trollbeads Folklore Kit

  • Trollbeads Cream Armadillo
  • Trollbeads White Paper Fold

Both the Trollbeads Prism Kit and the Trollbeads Spring Prism Kit are retiring. Interestingly the only bead individually pictured in the PDF is then the Turquoise Prism so it’s very unclear whether all of the beads retire individually or just the kits.

Trollbeads Collector’s Dream Sale

For those of you coveting any of these retiring designs, there is a Trollbeads Collector’s Dream Sale beginning on the 26th of December. The sale will run until January the 3rd and participation is at the discretion of the retailers.

It seems a 25% reduction in the RRP of all retired beads (so that includes older retired designs too.)

Trollbeads Retirement 2016 Summary

I am so shocked at some of the retiring glass kits! The Trollbeads Native Elements Kit remains one of my favourite sets of all times. Meanwhile the Trollbeads Chocolate & Cream Kit is a set I’ve coveted since it’s launch and now it’s retiring.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Trollbeads Retirement 2016? Are you coveting any of these designs and does the list surprise you? Hit the comments and let me know!

I just picked up a Red Pod on impulse at our Christmas promo sales here, and I’m glad I got it! It was a buy two glass beads and get a free “Discovery” bead, which were actually just beads from the Sparkle kit that were made into the Discover starter bracelets. Or something like that, but in any case, I got Red Pod, the Great Barrier Reef glass, and Ancient Palace (though not as deep a teal color as I would have liked; mine looks a bit more baby blue).

I have them on my (now-full) bracelet, with some wooden beads and my favorite silvers (a lone Pandora sneaked its way on there), which is looking very funky (◡‿◡✿)

I just participated in an ugly bead swap where participants sent their ugliest bead to another person and challenged them to find a way to use it. I received a bead from the Native Elements kit which was easy as I placed it on a black leather bracelet with the kit already on there. I think people will regret not buying these beads in future years.
I’m surprised about the prisms – their versatility makes them go to beads for me.

    • endangeredtrolls

See I read things like that and wonder if I’m one of the few who loved the Native Elements Kit! It’s being retired for some reason.. perhaps it’s not as popular as I always thought 😀 I love the kit!

      • Kathy H.

I love it too. It’s my favourite ever kit! 🙂

        • endangeredtrolls

Oh well :p Even if the love for it isn’t universal, those of us who do like it are passionate! 😉

Yesss the pods and the prisms leave us 🙁
The Dillo, Brew of the Moor….
Those are beads I wanted yes-no-yes-no. Just like the Crystal Triangle.
They were always passed by other Priority Beads.
There are other Retireds that I feel worse about still not having 🙂
But with the CDS it will be nice to catch up with some of those; no need to regret an instant buying of Retireds.
Will the CDS be just in the USA again Victoria?
    XOXO

    • endangeredtrolls

It *might* be mirrored by the UK. They seem to be copying more of the USA promotions these days. I’m not 100% sure though :*(

I thought there would be a lot more beads retiring. It seems like the collection doubled this year…ha ha. Super sad about Native Elements, though. I am glad that I have those beauties.

    • endangeredtrolls

I agree with you Megan. I’m currently going through all the releases this year for various articles over Christmas and they’ve released a *lot* of beads!

I am surprised that they are retiring the Native Elements kit already. I just have two more beads to get from that kit, but it shouldn’t be too hard. I really like that kit, it is very versatile. All of these kits though, except for the Native Elements and the Folklore kit, are ones where I like half the kit, and am not excited about the rest, even the prisms. I wish they would do new prism colours, but they probably won’t. I really want the fireflies bead, a flower cloud, and a white armadillo. There seem to be fewer and fewer armadillo beads in the collection 🙁. There are always new beads to look forward to though 😃. Maybe someday a kit of armadillos 🤔.

    • endangeredtrolls

As am I! I always thought it was a popular kit and yet it’s only been in production for a couple of years. Maybe I’m totally wrong. I’ve always thought it was quirky and fun 🙂

I want the entire Chocolate & Cream Kit to be honest.

  6. Elizabeth

Interesting. There are literally no beads there that I want but don’t have. Except maybe a denim prism for completeness. I’ll be interested to see whether new prisms are issued in future.

    • endangeredtrolls

I really want that Chocolate & Cream Kit. I always seem to showcase a few coffee themed bracelets each year and I think it would work so well for me.

  7. Melissa L

I’ve only been collecting beads for the last year, so I am unfamiliar with a Trollbeads retirement. There are quite a few glass beads that I want. The article mentions the 6 complete glass bead kits retiring. I assume that means that each individual bead will no longer be produced. Is that correct? Thank you!

    • endangeredtrolls

      Correct 🙂

  8. Michele

Big competition to all brand giving many promotion, discount, GWP…but I only have limited budget for jewelry.

  9. Maurine

I only picked up the Red Pod from that kit as it looks like a mini strawberry. The bead that surprised me was Brew of the Moor. That was the first silver bead that I bought multiples of. I think collectors will miss this bead in the future.

  10. Jane

The Native Elements Kit, The Lake Eye, Organic Bubbles, Brew of the Moor. There are some big designs retiring, imho. Brew of the Moor has been around for a very long time.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes. I’m really shocked by the list. Both because there are designs on there I didn’t remotely think would retire and it’s far smaller than I’d thought!

  11. Malia

Like you, I wanted the chocolate kit for my coffee bracelet! But I have ohm latte on there so I never got around to getting anything else… I particularly like that it should be easier to buy online, doesn’t seem like as much variation as say the organic kit- I had a really hard time finding the organic bubble I wanted. I think you predicted the yin tangs retirement too.

    • endangeredtrolls

I think it’s a “safe” kit to grab online. At least I’ve asked a retailer for one just last night and I’m not bothered about live images. I realised I’d quite like a couple more of the Aqua Edge designs too.

I did predict Yin Yang would retire but I think it was obvious from the spring list 😀

  12. Natalie

Seems like a fairly small list for the amount of new beads they’ve come out with, and they only seem to retire beads once per year? I guess I’m used to Pandora with the huge 2-3 times per year lists and Elfbeads with the every few months lists. Lucky for my wallet nothing tempting me here, I did just receive my 4 new Trollbeads today from Perlen and I love them all so much! I knew the Birth Month Flowers were substantial beads, but I was still pleasantly surprised with how nicely detailed and large the 2 I got are, Rose and Narcissus. I also love my Big Butterfly and Jewel of the Sea 😀 It will be Christmas bracelets just 1 more week, then I’m making some new designs!

    • endangeredtrolls

For a while they retired once per year but then we skipped 2015 entirely. Their catalogue right now is huge but on the other hand that’s their business and if they can handle the production, it doesn’t matter to us as collectors 😀

Pandora retirements always baffle me to the point that I just don’t cover them any more. Every few months I see a new list and it always includes charms that were on a previous list 😛 There are different lists for different regions and I find the whole thing rather silly. At least with Trollbeads, Elfbeads and Redbalifrog we get a simple list and none of these product withdrawls. Retailers just sell until they’ve gone 😀

  13. Maria

So sorry the Native Elements kit retires 🙁 and the brew of the moor is still on my wish list.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah I’m still quite shocked about that. Also when I was in bed last night it struck me that I’d really like a few more of each of the Aqua Edge designs 🙁

  14. francesca

The catching hearts lock has become one of my favourites, I’m glad I didn’t give it away some time ago!

    • endangeredtrolls

I really like the lock too though it took me some time to warm to it. It’s different. I like different 🙂

  15. Cheryl

I have the Folklore kit on my gold bracelet, along with a few favorite silver beads. I use stoppers to keep the beads spaced along the bracelet with a lot of the gold chain exposed. This glass kit looks wonderful with gold…It’s what I was wearing yesterday when you posted this update Victoria.

I also love my Native Elements beads, but among the collectors I know, it wasn’t very popular.

    • endangeredtrolls

Well they’re definitely retiring it for some reason Cheryl. I can’t imagine they’d get rid of it if it was a huge seller for them.

I don’t have the Folklore Kit either I should add! I’ve had to prioritise though and the Chocolate & Cream Kit won. I’m jealous of your gold bracelet I should add 😉

  16. Jose

I don’t think I’ll miss any of the retiring glass, having only 6 beads from the entire list. I will miss planet small, as I like the 2 toned silver of it & it’s quite a solid bead for the price bracket but that’s about it. I did expect a bigger list & other beads than these, but I am hoping that the retirement of these prisms might allow for some new prism colours later on.

  17. Martha Olavarrieta

    Hi Victoria,

I actually bought the Native Elements Kit because of you. I got it during the 40% off promotion, and i love it. I want to recreate one of your Fall bracelets(I’m almost there, even picked up Vine-also because of you). I have most of the retired beads, at least the ones I like. The ones I don’t have, I don’t intend on buying, they’ll just sit in my bead box, and not get used. I would like the gold Wine Harvest.

    Regards,
    Martha

    • endangeredtrolls

I’ve always loved them Martha! They’re so quirky and unusual. When you look at the glass releases for the past few years (and I should stress I HAVE liked most,) some feel a bit “samey”. We’ve had the Sparkle Kit, then the Nature Balance Kit and now for spring we’ll see more sparkle beads. I love them but for those who don’t like glitter… We’ve had more new stripes. More bubbles too. The Native Elements Kit is so unlike anything else. You can’t mistake the beads for anything else. Apparently though this feeling isn’t universal! If it was selling I’m sure they wouldn’t retire it!

I love the gold Wine Harvest. If I had pennies, I think I’d grab that as I bet it’s as useful as Vine (but obviously more special because it’s gold!)

    Hi Victoria,
Funny you mention the Edge bead every now and then one of my favorite designs by you pops up. It is completly done in the 3 Aqua beads from the Native Element kit. It and the one featuring all Oils from Elfbeads are two that I have tried to duplicate in their entirety. Still a few short with both bracelets but I think I am closer to completing the Oils than the Edge. Hoping as Trollbeads does not pull the stock I will be able to pick up a few in 2016.As for the Oils from Elfbeads now have enough for a bracelet design 15, I have supplimented with a few Silvers and swapping out when as I get Oils.Unfortuntely I missed a few of the earlier colors, Turquoise and Red.
These days when it comes to Trollbeads as they are so few retailers, designs that seem repetitive and pricy I dont even bother to keep abreast with what they offer, sad to say without you I would probably stop collecting the brand.

    • endangeredtrolls

I think the newly retired beads will stick around for a while. The sale seems to be in the US only – so at worst you’d probably be able to source them from Europe. It’s always hard to predict how fast beads will sell at retailers once they are reduced BUT I bet the actual distributors have a lot of these retiring beads sat around – as well as Trollbeads HQ. I don’t think anything will vanish quickly 🙂

  19. Sandy G

I find the retiring Chicken to be a great bead. It looks really cute on a bangle between 2 glass beads. It just sits so wonderfully. If that fits with your style too then I suggest you grab one.

  20. Gail Crosman Moore

Thanks to all for weighing in on a positive note regarding the retiring of my collection, Native Elements. I just read about it online here this morning. I like the adjectives used to describe my work. I guess this collection is just a little too ”Quirky’ for the masses. Happy New Year and thanks for your support.

    • endangeredtrolls

Gail I happen to think the Native Elements Set is one of my favourite kits from the last 5 years or so. I LOVE it. I love the texture, I love the bold colours (they scream autumn to me) and I love the quirky shapes. I’m trying to fund a few more of each Aqua Edge design as they’re definitely my favourites.

You’ll have seen among my readers the kit is popular which is why I was so surprised to see it retire!
