Trollbeads People’s Bead 2017 Final Twenty Four

This Trollbeads blog showcases the final twenty four designs in the Trollbeads People’s Bead 2017 event and alerts readers to the last chance to vote.

Firstly I must apologise for the lateness of this article. Generally I try to offer prompt coverage of the Trollbeads People’s Bead event but unfortunately the final twenty four designs were unveiled on Monday while I was still in the USA. Voting actually ends tomorrow so this is your final opportunity to declare your favourite bead. As before you need to head to the official website, log in and cast your votes. You need to select your three favourites and this is done via a small circular icon in the bottom right hand corner of the designs. Clicking on the icon will open a small tab allowing you to rank the design as your favourite, second favourite or third (as per the image below.)

When it’s cold outside, when you’re sick or got heavy heart, what can be better than a lovely cup of tea or mulled wine with cinnamon, aniseed and vanilla? When I want to create a cosy and warm atmosphere for my loved ones, I always have these spices in mind. So special they are, even a thought of them makes me picture warmth, comfort and happiness.

This beautiful silver bead is a wonderful addition to the Trollbeads family. Think of how many times you look up to the sky and make a wish. Now you can keep that wish on your wrist along side your favorite beads. The joy one wish can bring is enough to bring a smile to anyone. This bead wraps around your bracelet with the tail slightly curling off to the side to let the star show.

My happy bead is a positive statement. A reminder not to take life too seriously and to see the good in all situations. It’s a message to help us find our sunny happy place in times of trouble. There is always a bright side – even in darkness there are stars that shine. My design is a coin shaped bead. There is a sun and clouds motif on both circular faces, with cut out areas between the sun’s rays, allowing light to shine through the bead. When worn on a bangle or bracelet the following words will be visible ‘Always look on the bright side’. You will be able to see glimpses of the sun’s rays peeking around any other beads you choose to style with this bead. This reminds us there are always rays of hope in troubled times. You just need to look for them! My bead can also be worn on a fantasy necklace.

It is said that happiness is not a permanent state but is made up of many small moments that follow each other in a lifetime. the real challenge is to capture these moments and fix them in the mind and heart. IN AN EMBRACE YOU CAN STOP A MOMENT OF HAPPINESS AND MAKE IT YOUR, FOREVER.

Splashing around reminds me of the moments as a child playing in the pool. It brought me so much joy and was so much fun. Often there was more water around the pool than in the pool self. Today, swimming and splashing in the pool or oceans still make me feel happy. It is a moment of joy and lots of laughs.

The greatest happiness is to have friends with whom you are connected with strong knots. After all, friendship lies deep in the heart. Silver bead.

Have you ever heard the expression ‘Bright & Breezy’? It can have several meanings. Although I like to think it refers to someone who is happy, confident and carefree. I wanted my design to be based on this expression. My bead is a collaboration of the sun, wind and sea. Happiness is relaxing on the beach. I love to watch the tide as it moves back and forth, with the warmth of the sun on my skin and the gentle breeze in the air. This would certainly make me feel ‘Bright & Breezy’! All troubles would be cast aside in such a tranquil moment. My happy bead is a silver sphere. On one side, there is a sun motif whilst the opposing side depicts the rolling waves of the sea and the breeze. I visualise the motifs as being slightly recessed with various levels of oxidization. As the bead rolls around on your bracelet, you will either see the sun or be able to surf those waves. If you are lucky you’ll even be able to feel the breeze too, as both motifs become partially visible in the same field of view. As an alternative option, perhaps some areas of the design could be cut out to reveal the chain through the bead. Perhaps the centre of the sun and the cloud could be cut out. This would then create a bead with 4 holes, thus allowing the bead to work as a ‘splitter bead’ on a fantasy necklace.

For most of us HAPPINESS means Love, Family, Freedom, Peace.. But if You think a little deeper, You will realize that real Happiness is to have an opportunity to LIVE a LIFE. Without this opportunity we wouldn’t be able to seek for all the things mentioned above. Life only comes around once, so realize it & appreciate it. Embrace each day, by creating, by setting the life of your dreams and beautiful desires for yourself. It’s a gift to see another day. Embrace it all and enjoy your opportunity to live a Life. 🙂

Only through the awareness of love and kindness comes happiness.

While baby sitting my two young grandsons last night I asked the 4 year old what made him happy, he immediately replied Kisses, cuddles and presents. Which gave me the idea for this silver bead. X being the symbol of kisses, O the symbol for hugs, which I have made into a polished fat silver bead. So this bead when worn will be a reminder of all those very special people we love and hold close to our heart. xoxo

That happy moment when we finally meet our loved ones again. For some a lunatic wish, for others a matter of faith. But no one could ever deny the joy to reunite.

Daisies decorate our fields and woodlands as we venture into the Spring and Summer months. Hence daisies often symbolise new beginnings. For me, they are a reminder of my first memories creating my own ‘jewellery’. As young friends, we would gather around in a sunny field amongst tiny white daisies. We would chat for hours stringing the daisies together to make bracelets. We would then exchange them with each other as gifts – a token of our friendship. My Happy Bead is called ‘Sunshine Daisy’. It features delicate pure white petals against a sunny yellow background, encased within a glass bead. This bead represents those summery happy carefree days. And if you collect more than one, you too could create your very own daisy chain!

Happiness is shopping for new clothes – a fun day spent with friends. We talk and laugh whilst choosing which garments to try on. Fashion is always changing. It draws its inspiration from nature, industry, lifestyle, music etc. My happy bead conveys fashion – something which is at the heart of all my shopping trips. I love that feeling when you try on a new garment – and it fits! Then you can wear your new purchase along with complementary matching Trollbeads! Corsets are iconic in the world of fashion, dating back as far as 1820. The designs vary considerably, but they have always played a role throughout the history of fashion. I have used the corset as inspiration for this design. The front of the bead has a crisscross ‘raised’ pattern representing cord or ribbon, which gives the impression of drawstrings on a corset. The floral design on the sides and back represent the print of the garment. The subtle hourglass shape provides the ‘silhouette’ of the perfect female form – many women long for that hour glass figure! The bead features slightly raised shiny silver for the pattern, with an oxidized silver base. Fashion is something that is unique to the wearer, we all have our own style or preferences. My design is slightly abstract allowing the wearer to interpret the bead to their own taste. For example, could the drawstrings represent laces on a trendy pair of trainers? You decide. My bead will fit on a bracelet or fantasy necklace. I have opted for a specific size and shape (the same size and style as the ‘Wisest of Souls’ bead). Thus, allowing my bead to complement the sizing of current spacers in the collection. Together they create the perfect outfit! Why not try accessorizing this bead with the Bow Spacer, for the ultimate in feminine fashion? Fashion has no boundaries or limitations, which is something which I think we can all learn from. Create your own style and be yourself, then you’ll find true happiness.

My happy bead is a reminder that the happiness we all seek, already exists within us. It’s a state of mind, something we choose to be. If you can find your inner peace, you will find true happiness. The flower is a symbol of peace and being at one with our natural surroundings. And who doesn’t smile when they receive the gift of flowers? My design is a coin shaped bead with slightly convexed sides. It features a flower motif on the circular faces with cut out areas between its petals, allowing light to shine through. When worn on a bangle or bracelet the following words will be visible ‘Happiness lies within you’. You will be able to see glimpses of the flower petals peeking around any other beads you choose to style with this bead. My bead can also be worn on a fantasy necklace.

Some of my happiest memories are of sunny beaches, with sand like gold dust between my toes and the sunshine sparkling on the sea. When I see these things in my mind’s eye I can feel the warmth on my skin and in my heart, and my spirit soars. There is something uplifting about the sun sparkling on any body of water, so a reminder of this must be a happy bead!

As I wander through the garden, I see so many amazing and beautiful flowers. To draw them all is impossible, so I call this happy bead, Petals. A beautiful garden is my Happy place, full of plants that have sweet scents through to those that nourish us and then there are those that delight us with their amazing colours and shapes. The arrangement of different petals in this bead reminds me that in Life, everything is different and we should embrace this!

My design is based on the traditional Runic writing from Scandinavia with the message ‘With Hygge Comes Happiness’. I believe that embracing Hygge with the one that you love brings joy and happiness.

Spread happiness with smiles, friendly words and acts of kindness. This coin style bead embraces spreading happiness around to create more and more. Like a dandelion clock spreading seeds in the wind. The words ‘spread happiness’ or ‘happiness’ are written around the outside.

Polaris the north star simbolizes our mayor goal in life, a point that we want to reach. This bead will remind us of our goals in life and also to look at the stars for guidance. This is a glass bead with a background that resembles a night sky going from pursuer to cobalt blue. In this background stars pop out in white-yellow. The stars that form the major ursa are prominent while polaris is the central one, featured by a tactile dot of translucent glass. this dot in the bead will remind us of our goals by touching it, making us more grounded while wishing to the stars.

I did my voting on Monday. I was very happy to see my favorite “Dancing Dragons” there. It was definitely an easier process with only 24 designs to choose from.

    • endangeredtrolls

Clearly a couple of you rather love that bead 😉

      xoxo

  2. Katie

I did my voting on Monday. I was happy, because one of my favorites – Dancing Dragons – made the cut. But, I really was hoping that the bee and amber bead would make the cut – I’ve been hoping for that one for years. I found voting on this round easier. Which isn’t saying much, actually. My computer never let me get past the first vote for the initial selection.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m glad one of your favourites made it through! And I’m glad you found the second phase easier <3 🙂

      xoxo

  3. Lilith

A little disappointed with some designs that made top 24 considering I’ve seen similar designs from other brands and it would have been nice to see Trollbeads not being forced into basically copying other companies. Other designs I’m pleased to see very much, such as Dancing Dragons.

Also a little miffed that the original voting process didn’t show me half of these designs even though I voted long enough to get the, “you have voted on every design go outside and take a break” message. Probably need some work on their voting process but this year was a more than a step in the right direction.

    May the best design win!

    • endangeredtrolls

You clearly aren’t the only one as Carol has also just mentioned that she’s quite certain she did not see all of these designs while voting. That’s kind of interesting. I have to confess, I never got through the voting. I got so frustrated with the technical issues during the first few days that I left it alone until the very last day. By that point I was also busy preparing for the Spring Bead Break and I just gave up so I have no clue as to any remaining issues.

I have mixed feelings about the new voting process. I like that they tried to make it more interactive and prevent people purely voting for their friends via a direct link. I thought it was incredibly arduous however and I simply didn’t have time for it and I wonder how that effected other people.

I was also concerned that some designs simply didn’t look viable. I’m no expert when it comes to design, especially in regards to glass, but some looked crazy. Amazing but not necessarily viable. To me that means we’d end up with a bead that could potentially look far removed from what we actually voted on.

On the flip side I feel guilty even complaining because I’m not sure what I’d do (in Trollbeads’ shoes) to improve the system so my criticism doesn’t exactly seem constructive 😛

      xoxo

      • Lilith

I’ve actually come across an amazing “favourites picker” system on a just for fun Pokémon website built by a single woman. I think if Trollbeads adopted a similar approach (or even asked to lisence the code) that it would streamline the system. I can pick 25 favourites in under twenty minutes out of all 800 Pokémon. It ranks them in a similar head to head way Trollbeads did this year but shows 20 each page at first which then narrows down until a favourite is chosen. Once the number one is picked it pools your other high interest choices back together and restarts the narrowing process. I’m curious if there is a way to contact the peoples bead organisers and show them this concept.

        Hi Victoria,
The final round certainly was easier with only 24 finalist, and 3 to rank. It took me almost ELEVEN HOURS (over a four day period) to vote the first round. Was able to see all the finalist in the first round. Very fishy that folks could not even view all the entries though they received the message saying their viewing was finished. Sounds like the Trollbeads IT department could stand some constructive criticism for the future. Lilith’s idea is wonderful. If Trollbeads could cull the entries that did not follow the rules, remove the designs copied from other brands, then give the “People”something like Lilith suggests, they would have a lot more “Happy” participants. My best to you Victoria.

        • endangeredtrolls

Yes I completely agree with your argument about having some kind of “cull” phase initially. This could also give people with more insight than the average person (like me) the opportunity to see what’s viable and what isn’t. If a design is so complex that it could never be realised without changing it SO much, then I personally feel that should also be dismissed. That said in previous years when we’ve had the Trollbeads selected “panel” create a top one hundred list, we’ve still had designs that are identical to (and if I remember correctly even a stock image or two) from other brands. So that’s something else they need to be really careful of. On the other hand.. with so many brands and artisans out there, it’s going to be really tough to make sure no copies slip through the net too! 🙁

I do feel sorry for Trollbeads. This year they took on board the requests for the community to select the finalists rather than a panel and clearly it’s had issues too. In regards to the technical side.. I also feel sorry for them there as unfortunately, the main “test” of the system has come with the actual voting and that also had problems initially too.

Hopefully they’ll have gathered all of the feedback and will have lots to work with and improve on for 2018.

          xoxo

        • Lilith

Agreed about the time commitment. I did the entire vote in one sitting and my arm hurt afterwards! I didn’t time myself but I did put more than 6 hours in for sure.
Culling would be entirely beneficial as well. I love Mrs. Pots and Chip just as much as the next person but honestly Trollbeads isn’t going to get a useage lisence for just a single bead even if they could. If a copyrighted design made top numbers it would have to be culled before final voting and that upsets the entire first round. As for overly complex beads, that leads to disappointment among voters. It’s unfortunate for a company to put the effort into bringing something to life that wasn’t what participants expected.
Overall there are improvements to be made. I hope Trollbeads continues to incorporate feedback from their fans.

  4. Carol S.

I swear I didn’t see some of these final 24 although I got the finished message as well. I do like a few. Sad not see some of my favorites especially the Thousand Paper Cranes. I did not like having to choose between two beads when I liked neither. Perhaps this contest is like my US Presidential election. No one voted for him but he’s the winner. LOL

    • endangeredtrolls

This is interesting. I went through what I thought was every single page to pull my personal favourites and I swear I never saw some of these. However I blamed myself because honestly, I am so rushed to get these articles out that it’s easy to miss things. You’re now the second reader to comment that they didn’t see some of these finalists.. 🙁

      xoxox

  5. Stephanie J

I didn’t really like the voting format. First of all it seemed to take forever!! And when I had to vote between two when I liked neither, over and over again, I felt like I was wasting my time. It made me annoyed because I knew I was missing out on designs I would actually like. It would have been nice to have some sort of % tracter to know how much longer you had till you voted on all of them. I was able to pick my three favorites from the 24, that was easy. But like you said Victoria, some of the designs look too complicated for them to come to life. But maybe Trollbeads can do it? If they change the design to be more realistic to make, then maybe the people who voted for it will be upset? I don’t know. I did really enjoy seeing all the cool designs and I am looking forward to seeing the winning bead. 🙂

    • endangeredtrolls

That’s my concern and it’s also kinda what happened with the Night Owl. The art for the owl was completely different to the end design and that made some people (myself included,) a little upset.

At least picking from the final twenty four has proven incredibly easy for most of us so that’s at least great 😀 Hopefully they’ll manage to streamline the process for next year and as I said, the sad part is that I have no idea what I’d actually suggest in their position 🙁

      xoxo

  6. MaLa SaHan

I am very disappointed with most of the final 24 beads chosen via this most unsatisfactory process employed this year. Voting as with each bead showing independently of each other would have given us a better chance to vote, as some had to be voted on just to get the page moving on to the next set.
I voted for some very beautiful glass beads which never made it into the finals. Some of the best silver beads met with the same fate.
I hope they will use some of those beautiful designs which did not make the finals as it would be a shame to totally waste them.

    • endangeredtrolls

In fairness if beads didn’t make it to this final twenty four it just means others were more popular. Sadly that’s just an example of us all having individual tastes (you’ll notice most of mine didn’t make it to the finals either! 🙁 )

I always get a little sad as there’s so many beads I’d love to see produced but this list is what the majority want and I’m good with that 😀

      xoxo

      • Mary

Not really, if one was not able or willing to vote on all 1900 then the first 100 or so would be voted over again and again and gain the popular vote numerically. Unless all voters voted on all 1900 beads and the spread of the top 24 came as shown would it be fare. A lot of people, as you yourself did, got frustrated and quit. So if Trollbeads run up the numbers for 1900 beads and skim the top 24 off for the final vote it is not a mathematical representation of popularity for the lot as not everyone voted through to the end. To be mathematically fare votes should have been counted for those who voted on the entire lot. Let’s say many got bored after 50 beads… likely the top 24 bead votes would come out of those first 50. The beads were not shuffled. Those who submitted early will displayed last.

        • Tina P

Six of the finalists submitted within the first 36 pages, so I don’t think this theory is correct.

        • endangeredtrolls

I think we’d need to be sure that those who submitted first were displayed last and unfortunately without knowing the specifics of the system, that’s really hard. I assumed they were being displayed in a random order (and then random pairs) but that *was* purely assumption. I truly have no idea.

          xoxo

  7. Muriel

I am really glad and surprised to se my design between the finalist (polaris), there were a lot of other designs that I thought were going to make it. I have to say that my drawings where not the best but the idea behind the bead is, in my opinion, powerful. Thanks to all that voted for my design!!

  8. Aquila

I don’t want to vote… Beccause there is no bead I could buy, except the Petals and Hug Me.
But when I saw a picture just take from google images… Sorry but no, I won’t vote for this. Some “designers” spend time to imagine a nice bead with a presentation, I don’t understand why this “bead” is in the 24 finalists, really !

Maybe you will call me “bad player” but I don’t see any really “unique” bead, Trollbeads collection already have some beads with same theme/form/design.
A really bad vote system :/

    • endangeredtrolls

Ultimately the beads in the top twenty four are what collectors have voted there. It’s a straight up popularity contest. The argument that the beads should have been “screened” first is of course valid! Though actually the reason they switched to this format is precisely due to popular demand from collectors (who believed that they should be more involved in selecting the finalists as opposed to a pre-selected panel.)

I’m not sure there’s ever going to be a perfect system and unfortunately we all have such varied tastes that we’ll never all be happy either 🙁

I’m sorry your favourites didn’t make it through.

      xoxo

  9. Elizabeth

I just didn’t have time for the first round voting nonsense. There are some strong finalists. But so many coin beads! I really don’t like them at all apart from the original Sun Circle.

    • endangeredtrolls

I understand this. I like coin beads but I know many people do not. I think they’re a bit of a love or hate them thing – from their shape rather than the individual designs you understand.

      xoxo

  10. Kim

I really wonder if the finalists were chosen based solely on the vote. And in fact I rather doubt they were, just due to the way the voting process was set up. People who completed the entire voting process had to vote for literally half the submissions. And as other people have mentioned, a lot of people (me included) just got frustrated and quit. Even assuming someone finished voting, the vote wouldn’t show their real preference, since you had to vote for one out of every two beads if you wanted to move on. Although I didn’t finish, I spent several hours voting, and in that time voted for hundreds of beads, even though I truly liked at most 40-50. So I feel like my vote was diluted so much by all the crap I was forced to vote for that my true preferences didn’t count at all. I hope this method of voting is not repeated in future.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah I remember in the last article (of my submission favourites,) someone referred to it as voting for the “least” ugly of two and I kind of get that. The issue I’m having is that I personally can’t offer much in the way of suggestions to improve it. I like that they tried to make it more interactive rather than it becoming a popularity contest. The last few years the People’s Bead period has just been full of people posting links to their designs (or their BFFs designs) *everywhere*. This allowed people to duck in, click one link and that was it – without actually seeing other beads. So I think the theory behind the changes was solid. The execution though? I think the process was too time consuming. Jo Ann just mentioned it took her eleven hours over four days to finish the vote. Realistically many of us aren’t going to dedicate that amount of time to a voting process and that’s a shame since suddenly the entire point of the event is undermined.

I’ve seen a lot of feedback on social media so hopefully whoever is in charge of People’s Bead will have some great ideas to improve the system for 2018.

      xoxo

  11. Maria

A lot of the 24 beads I didn’t see the first round, very strange ..And even worse my favourite bead didn’t make it to the last 24 🙁 I’m a little bit sad about that.

    • endangeredtrolls

Unfortunately out of nearly 2000 entries a lot of us were going to be disappointed that our favourites never made it through. Most of my didn’t either but that’s okay. It’s better that the designs the majority wanted are there rather than some of the quirkier tastes I suppose 😀

You’re clearly not the only one who feels they didn’t see any of these beads in the first round of voting and I’m not really sure what happened there. (As I said, I never finished sadly.)

Hopefully whichever design ultimately wins will appeal to the majority of collectors though 🙂

      xoxo

  12. Lynne

None of the beads I loved made it to the final. I really loved some of the florals and those trolls that didn’t make it. There were only a couple in the finals that I think were alright but not sure I like them enough to actually buy them. I think some look similar to what trollbeads already has. I will not be voting. I do not mean to sound negative. It’s just my opinion.

    • endangeredtrolls

To vote (or not) is absolutely your decision of course and you shouldn’t feel bad about that 🙂 I’m sorry to hear your favourites didn’t make the top twenty four though. I know it’s always disappointing.

      xoxo

      • Lynne

I’ll wait to see which one wins and then decide if I want to get it. There are so many other Trollbeads on my wish list still to get. I love troll and they are one of my favorite brands.

        • endangeredtrolls

Exactly! It launches alongside the Trollbeads fall 2017 collection so I doubt any of us will be struggling to find beads we love 😉 It’s usually quite the opposite! And at least for me, the fall releases are always my favourites <3

          xoxo

    • aquila

      The same ^^
I hope last year the vote system will be better… in the same spirit to give a real chance to anyone (and not a person who’ll make vote his 3000 friends lol) but not so “loooooong” and obscur.

      • aquila

        I mean “next year”….. not “last” ><

  13. Ashley

    Hi everyone! 🙂

As I’m reading through everyone’s comments, it reminds me of the headache of voting for last year’s Peoples Bead. I, too, got frustrated and ended up never finishing the process unfortunately.

Thanks Victoria for listing all twenty four of the beads in your article. 🙂 I see a few that caught my eye but I agree with a couple of you in mentioning how some of the beads look very familiar. It won’t be hard to vote for three beads from the list, imho. 😉 On the other hand, it’s almost difficult in choosing if I’ll still like the beads after it goes through the design process. :/ Colors? Glass? Art work?

I don’t really know what to say. I think it’s our responsibility to vote based on how the designs look here and not on how they could be potentially altered, purely because we don’t know if or how that will happen.

I’m sorry to hear that you also found the process frustrating but I know the team have been reading feedback all over social media and hopefully they’ll come up with some amazing ideas to improve it for 2018 😀

      xoxo

It’s a dream come true to see one of mine in the top 24 😀
It saddens me to see everyone’s frustration though. Like past years the voting was long and multiple designs were entered or even copied from other brands. That truly erks me… I sat for many hours thinking what would look good along side other trollbeads, what would other collectors like? I guess I got it right this year! I have to admit I wasn’t able to finish the first round of voting. My internet connection isn’t the best and my computer broke down.. just my luck. I had no way of sitting there for hours and days on my phone. I never even saw any of my designs to vote for. I thought for sure I’d be out but I made it. I was able to pick a top 3 so I’m happy about that. In a nice way at least the ‘crap’ was weeded out. For those who tried their best and really put their heart into it deserve to be in the running. I’m eager to see what happens since today is it. It will soon be in Troll’s hands. I just hope more people voted in round 2. I can’t say much as far as the voting, it definitely frustrated me and made me question how and why. It should be a good time for the troll community to share ideas and make new memories. It seems to go downhill from submitting designs 🙁 Can only hope they fix the bugs next year.
    Good luck top 24!

My submissions were part of the last ones but weren’t the first in voting process; noticed some pairing, and sometimes it was a vote cast to the one most wanted out of the two without liking either one of them.
It took me about 10-12 hours to see them all… Maybe even longer.

But I do expect that all of us saw them in the same order, since I checked with some other judges… So maybe many of us didn’t cast votes on all of them indeed.

I do hope that P.B.2018 will be the same yet more at random showed, faster in the process, and the ability to not cast a vote if you really do not like the beads shown.

Yet, I do like plenty of the finalists and I wish them all the best of luck. I couldn’t vote since I was on abandoned hardly to no-wifi islands these days 🙁

    XOXO
