Trollbeads People’s Bead 2015 Submissions End

This Trollbeads blog article acknowledges the closing of the Trollbeads People’s Bead 2015 and takes a look at some of my favourite submissions.

The submission phase of the Trollbeads People’s Bead 2015 event is now closed! We have a reasonably short wait until Trollbeads announce the one hundred finalists on April the 17th. At that point the community will be encouraged to vote on their favourite designs. We then have a huge wait until the winner is unveiled on September the 28th and on October the 9th, the bead will launch.

The theme of the Trollbeads People’s Bead 2015 is Share Your Passion. They wanted to see what we’re passionate about and I’ll be interested to see if they discount the submissions that are absolutely unrelated to this. I’ve seen several designs that have no description at all and no explanation as to how they represent a passion.

I’ve enjoyed watching the submissions phase and checking everyday for new designs. I always like to showcase a few of my favourites at this point. Please do keep in mind however that this is entirely subjective! I am interested in horses, dancing, reading, the fantasy genre and love specific styles such as steampunk and gothic design. Obviously submissions that touch on these themes are going to appeal to me! I also know from years past that there are some members of the community who’s designs greatly appeal to me. This has proven correct in 2015 too. I’ll undoubtedly miss some spectacular designs too as ploughing through all of the submission is quite difficult.

Trollbeads People’s Bead 2015

As mentioned there are always some artists I’m hopeful of seeing submissions from. They tend to draw inspiration from themes I’m particularly interested in or otherwise just have a style I appreciate. One such designer I was desperate to see make a reappearance for 2015 was Kevin Powell and imagine my delight when his creation isn’t just fantastical but it’s also created for a fantasy necklace.

Amanda White submitted this lovely design called Variety and while it’s unusual and odd, something about it appeals to me enormously.

From Kristine Rusiene comes the lovely Air, Sea & Land bead. I absolutely adore the glass! I think it could work beautifully on any kind of nautical or perhaps even night sky themed bracelet.

Also perfect for the night sky bracelets is Astronomy, submitted by Pashca Komttebed.

Beckie Hoof always submits lovely designs and I had a difficult choice limiting myself to just three. Returning for 2015 is her Bee Fantasy Necklace.

As mentioned earlier I love to read and Beckie’s Book Worm is fabulous!

Finally she’s submitted this amazing fantasy lock and I’m coveting it for my next Harry Potter project! Not to mention it would be ideal for Halloween.

Celia Chin has submitted a lovely design called Glass Passion which seems to be an absolute explosion of colours, helix and dichroic glass.

Luisa Esposito’s Corinthian Capital really appeals to me also.

Elisa Schuijtvlot submitted her Dancing bead and the poise is very evocative of an elegant dancer. That said I think this bead has a place on lots of different bracelets.

I’ve then chosen two designs from Анна Златоустова; the Dragon and the Ouroboros Fantasy Necklace.

Two designs from Karen Hood also made my short list. First is her Eclipse which is so lovely. Second is her Navigate bead. I adore old, hand drawn maps.

Oksana Alekseeva’s Elephants is such an adorable bead though I do ponder if some of the lovely detailing would be lost.

Lauren Keen has submitted many beads in the past that I’ve coveted and this year seems no different. First is her Family Tree which has enormous potential for nature themed bracelet as well as family. Second is her Poseidon’s Storm for her passion of storm-watching.

Harriet Evans submitted a lovely rendition of Jack Frost for her love of the winter season.

Silvia Reatti submitted her Ladybugs as a representation of relationships and it’s so cute.

I’m not usually a huge fan of floral beads but I love Carole Kancar’s Lilac glass.

Анна Рыбалкa submitted a lovely Magical Lantern and I’ve been yearning for one of these for a long time, particularly for a fairy themed bracelet.

I’m so pleased that Maria af Rolén has resubmitted her lovely Nature Lover Fantasy Necklace!

Quite a few people have submitted different executions of a passion for music but I adored Jeannie Sanger’s version.

Trollbeads People's Bead 2015

My second choice for fans of reading is Marta Kubešova’s Neverending Story. I just love this design.

Trollbeads People's Bead 2015

Tina Parker has submitted her Puffin’ Billy as an ode to the original retired Trollbeads Train and Train Wagon. As I’ve coveted that design for so long I love Tina’s bead!

Trollbeads People's Bead 2015

Jean Francois Huet submitted the Space Time Continuum bead and I’m coveting it so fiercely.

Lily Sun’s The Hoarder appeals hugely to my fantasy appreciation.

Finally Anique Waagenaar’s Fantasy bead is just divine!

Trollbeads People’s Bead 2015 Summary

So now the waiting begins to see what Trollbeads choose for their top one hundred submissions. They have to consider which designs will actually work as beads and of course someone has to check that none of the submissions are blatant copies of other brands.

In 2014 we had multiple designs of the same theme in the final which annoyed many, particularly when the differences were so small. I’m desperately hoping this isn’t repeated for 2015.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Trollbeads People’s Bead 2015 submissions? Have you participated? Do you have a favourite design already? Hit the comments and let me know!

I really like him I have to confess 😀 There were a few dragons submitted this time but I was happy to see that most were quite distinctive – yours included of course!

I will always always vote for more dragons 😀

      Good luck Amber!!

  3. marymary

Lovely designs; the mermaid and the “air, sea, land ” leapt out at me but I wonder if they can be mass-produced while keeping the detail.

    • endangeredtrolls

That’s always my worry when I see very detailing or intricate creations submitted. I *love* Siren so much. I adore fantasy necklaces of course and while there are a few mermaids out there, I think we need a really good, larger mermaid.

  4. noemi

I love elephants, so I was especially drawn to the elephants design.

    • endangeredtrolls

I really like the Elephants bead but I hope (if it was selected,) that it doesn’t get smacked with a cute stick. I love the realistic artwork that was submitted and I’d want the end bead to look like that. (Demanding I know ;))

      xxx

  5. noemi

Liking the voodoo doll too. 😉

    • endangeredtrolls

I loved Voodoo Doll when it was first submitted. My one worry is as to whether it really counts as a passion? 🙁

  6. A.C.

Love the two glass pieces – Air, land, sea which adds a nice masculine tone and historical feel; and Lilac with it’s lush look…perfect for an April in Paris or Secret Garden themed bracelet.

    • endangeredtrolls

I really liked Lilac and usually floral glass isn’t my thing. I do wonder how well it would translate to an actual bead though? Or if Trollbeads version would end up being like their other flowers but in lilac.

Air, Land & Sea I just love. I could see it working on an astronomical bracelet.. something related to maps.. nautical.. Though again I wonder if it’s viable!

      Kind Regards
      Victoria

  7. jeannie sanger

Hi! Thank you for the shout out ! I always look forward to your opinion of the entries !

    • endangeredtrolls

There were some lovely beads this year as always! I’m sure I’ve missed some as there are sooo many to go through. I just hope I haven’t jinxed anyone as last year my personal choice didn’t seem to do too well with making it into the top 100!

Best of luck to you 😀 For what it’s worth I think it’s much nicer than the musical note uniques floating around at the moment!

  8. Josette Chambreau

    Hi Victoria,

I love all three of Beckie Hoof’s designs. I’m an avid reader, love any kind of bee beads & I have most of the locks there are out there.
Would love to see what else Beckie submitted!!!

  9. Kim

You made some lovely picks, Victoria. Air, Sea, Land and Space Time Continuum jump out at me immediately. I also like Navigate and Blooming Trolls, and think they might translate more easily into actual mass production. Like marymary, I think the details would be lost on many of these designs if they had to move into mass production, though. I haven’t been impressed with the level of detailing on most of Troll’s recent silver designs, I have to say. But it is fun to see the level of creativity in the community. Best of luck to all of the entrants! As for the theme, it is so broad that I think anything goes – all you have to do is say that you like something a lot, after all!

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes I fear you could be correct 🙁 I love the realistic detailing on some of the silver designs and I’m just not sure that would carry over to the end result.

It was really difficult to “only” feature this number. I’ve been going through the submissions on a near daily basis and saving the details of my favourite. When I went to finalise the article last night I had nearly 50 images which was too many 🙁

I’d love to be a fly on the wall at Trollbeads HQ for the next phase though!

  10. Kevin Powell

Thanks again for featuring my bead design Victoria. I think you picked some great designs this year for your top choices. The one I’m most fond of is the pangolin bead, which unfortunately Isn’t on this list. I think you did pick one of the persons design here though. So many great designs that I wish they could produce a few of them instead of just one.

    • endangeredtrolls

You are most welcome but you know I love your work 😉

I’m with you though. I wish they’d do another “release” for People’s Bead rather than a single winner. There’s such a lot of talent out there and also, I think it’s really great to be including designs from people distanced from the regular Trollbeads artists. It brings a completely different level of variation to the catalogue!

      xxx

  11. Elizabeth

Gosh, I haven’t found time to look at the entries, much less post my own. Nothing here really grabbing me – the most amazing pictures just wouldn’t be able to be realised as beads/pendants. As for fitting the theme, Trollbeads won’t factor that in, based on past competitions.

    • endangeredtrolls

So sorry my selection doesn’t inspire. They’ve received a huge number of entries though so I’m sure there would be some designs among them that you’d love 🙂 Plus the top one hundred will be revealed in a couple of weeks anyway 🙂

      xxx

  12. Amber

Wishing everyone the best of luck as we wait for the 17th of April! Regardless, I had a lot of fun submitting!!!!

Kevin….as you are so good I think you should just have your own competition!!!!! 🙂 😉 I submitted a Pangolin but not sure how many others were submitted!

    Good luck everyone!!!

    x

    • endangeredtrolls

I love the event but I have to confess I get terribly impatient :p Both now – waiting for the final one hundred and then that awfully long wait over summer! I know this whole process takes time but goodness I wish I had more patience for it 🙂 And I have never submitted a design so it must be far worse for the artists!

      Good luck! 😀

      xxx

  13. kevin powell

Thanks Amber. I think your pangolin bead is amazing. Honestly, hands down, the best submission I’ve ever seen. The little baby on her back is brilliant. I really hope it makes top 100. I picture it having the same dimensions as the lucky dragon.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yep pretty certain I’ve missed this bead 🙁

      xxx

  14. Amber

Wow Kevin! Thank you so much for your compliment! You’ve made my day – honestly! Blown away in fact! And coming from you as well! 🙂

Good luck to you, you always seem to come up with a winning design we all like!!!!! 🙂

    Thanks again……now we wait!

    • endangeredtrolls

I have a feeling I missed your design 🙁 From Kevin’s description it’s just not sounding at all familiar to me 🙁 I knew I’d missed some :*(

      • Amber

Ahhh Victoria! LOL! Out of thousands of entries!!!!!! It was a last minute entry, I had drawn it and forgot to upload it!!!! I did have fun drawing it though……….. 🙂

        • endangeredtrolls

I found it at last! I hadn’t seen it 🙁 I love the way the tail wraps around the chain 😀 She is SO cute!

I actually had your enchanted castle / lantern saved to my folder, as well as the seasons lock but I had to be super tough and cut down the number of images in the article 🙁

          xxxx

      • Kevin

It’s just the way I picture it I guess. I think the arms would have to completely wrap around the chain, but besides that, I think the pangolin would make a great bead. I think your choices are great though Victoria, out of thousands of submissions, you picked a lot of my favorites. I briefly skimmed through them, so I’m sure I missed many. It’s a good thing that Trollbeads takes there time with their choices for top 100.

  15. Luisa Esposito

    Hi dear Victoria!
thank you so much for your mention! This year there are beautiful proposals! It will be difficult to choose only one winner! 🙂

    • endangeredtrolls

Most welcome! I love your design 😀 I wish they’d choose a group of winners for a collection again 😀

      Good luck!!

      xxx

  16. Fee

I love them all Victoria! But love the “angel wings” most. Hope I can find them back and they will be in the top 100…

    • endangeredtrolls

Ah yes! I chose her Fantasy bead instead as I’m really obsessing about this idea of being able to encase glass beads in some kind of silver cage.

      Lovely wings though!

      xxx

  17. Tina Parker

    Hi Victoria,
As always, I am so excited to have you list one of my bead designs….thank you for liking it. Too many great designs this year, I also can’t wait to see the results. It is a long wait! x

    • endangeredtrolls

I love your design! Like you I’ve always coveted the retired Trollbeads Train and wagon beads but they’re so beyond reach. I’d love to know how many were ever actually made since the company was tiny at the time. I suspect very few! I think your Puffin’ Billy is the closest we’ll ever get 😉

      xxx

  18. Lauren Keen

    Hiya,
Thank you for featuring 2 of my designs! I’m very flattered! Not my favourite ones but it’s interesting to see what others like! So many wonderful entries this year! I look forward to seeing the finalists and the eventual winner. Would’ve loved a multiple release with this theme as it’s so broad there could be something for everyone. Never mind, a highlight on the bead calendar nonetheless! X

    • endangeredtrolls

That’s actually been quite common over the past couple of years with artists who have submitted multiple designs. I’ve chosen one or two and they’ve commented saying “really? I must preferred my ….” 😀 Everything is always so dependent on personal tastes though.

Which was your favourite from your own submissions if you don’t mind me asking? 🙂

I’d also love to see more than one winner. I’m not sure why they moved away from that 🙁

      Good luck Lauren!

      xxx

      • Lauren Keen

I like the other family tree one, the peacock (but I am so desperate for a peacock bead!) and I like the design of the passion flower and the sentiment behind the wellies!
It’s really interesting seeing what others like, Trollbeads are so personal. One of the reasons I love them!

  19. Dahlia

    Hi Victoria!
I liove Trollbeads and drawing, so every year I partecipate People’s bead. In 2012 I was one of 100 finalists but unfortunately I didn’t win!
I think your list is very nice and my favourite is “Ouroboros”…
Please, Victroria, I send many designs this year for People’s Bead: I’d like very much one of your great opinion!
    A kiss

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi Dahlia 🙂

You just need to keep trying and hopefully one day you will win 🙂

Could you please send me links to your pictures so I can have a look? I’m SO busy today that I don’t have much time to look through them all and find yours (and some ladies use different names to submit with than what they use here.) I’d love to see your beads though 🙂

      xxxx

      • Dahlia

It’s difficult to send links because I subscrived many pictures in different days, but I’ll try! 🙂
I’d like very much to send you someone!
        Kiss!!!

      • Dahlia

        Oh my God!!!! 😮
        Victoria! I’m finalist with 5 pictures of mine!!! …So many pictures!!! <3 <3 <3
I'm so happy! It's a great day today! It would be the dream of my life to win!
So, Victoria what do you prefer of my finalist images?
        A kiss!!!!

        • endangeredtrolls

          I still can’t see the final 100 yet I’m afraid 🙁

          • Dahlia

            It’s a DREAM!!!!! wow!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
I hope you will see it soon.
            I don't believe it!!! I'm so happy!!!! 😀

  20. Beckie

    Eeeek!
Thank you for mentioning 3 of my designs <3 Always tremendously flattering 🙂
I must admit I'm really embarrassed by that particular lock though ha ha! I've been in such a rush this year, I would've like to of spent more time drawing that one but hopefully I explained what I had in mind 😮
I ended up entering about 20 or so designs this year, I do get a little excited over PB ha ha!! Unfortunately I ran out of time and got pulled back into the real world 😮

I do love 'puffin Billy!!! One of my sons is obsessed with trains and I've coveted the old trollbeads train for years. I also love the voodoo doll, the hoarder and of course Marias FN! So glad she entered that <3
It's such a long wait to find out who won but I do look forward to this every year 🙂 but I really wish they would go back to making a collection 🙁

    • endangeredtrolls

I saved a lot of your designs but limited the number I featured here. There’s not really any wonder I like your ideas, we have such similar tastes on so many things 😉 I so so so hope you get featured in the top 100 😀

I’m with you though, there are just too many nice designs for there to be one winner 🙁 I want a release of 10-15 beads 🙁 I’d love to know how many of the Trollbeads Train were actually made 😀 I wonder if anyone at Trollbeads would share the information just for the kicks.

      xxx

      • Beckie

thank you! I hope so too ha ha…… if not I’ll just have to keep bombarding them with submissions every year lol :p
I really really need something to keep my book, fantasy or bug obsessions at bay!!

I loved it when they released collections for the PB. It gave such a variety to choose from that you could almost always guarantee that there would be something for everyone 🙁 Maybe doing collections just before their usual Autumn release proved problematic?

I’d love to know how many trains there were too!! Probably a horrendously low number like less than 5 I’m betting. Wouldn’t a steam train be lovely for a Harry Potter theme though?!! ooooh see now I want one even more. I’d never be able to afford one of course :p But I can dream! 🙂

        • endangeredtrolls

When I replied to you earlier I was thinking between five and ten too. I might email them next week just to see if it’s information they’d be willing to share. I bet not though 😛

The only reason I can think of for changing back to one winner is as you said – a busy winter season 🙁 If we can expect the Trollbeads Autumn 2015 collection in late August and then the Trollbeads Christmas 2015 in October with the People’s Bead release, maybe they just run out of time? And that’s not accounting for any potential Halloween beads or limited editions.

Personally though I think it made for a more interesting autumn season. Many of the beads still come from a small group of designers that have worked with Trollbeads for years so there is always going to be some sense of continuity. If they allow for a full collection from fans, we get totally different ideas and inspiration (though admittedly Trollbeads do alter the designs somewhat.)

Ohhhh a Hogwarts Express bracelet…. That would just be to die for. Beckie I’m planning Harry Potter Week 2015 at the moment. Absolutely no dates and it won’t be for ages but I want it to be awesome. You know your help will be required right? 😉

          xxxx

          • Beckie

I’ll keep my eyes peeled in case you find out! I did hear there was only 1 or 2 of the greenlandic woman made and my heart sank. I know it’s terribly unpopular for re-releases but personally I would absolutely love a return to the old designs.
If they were changed a little to leave the originals with their desirability and price tag of course. But there are a handful (at least) from back then that I would absolutely love <3

I couldn't agree more about the PB designs. I just love the variety offered in a PB collection. Each bead as different as the individual who submitted the idea….. But I wouldn't want to forfeit a Halloween release to make time for it.
I have loved that they introduced that new mini release each year. I'm a huge fan of the colder seasons and of course Halloween themes <3

ooh ooh ooh!!! Harry Potter!!!!!! I just had the final bead arrive for my Hagrid bracelet today so it's funny you should mention that ha ha. I'm not sure if it's the right bead yet but I'm planning a play and time for photo's tomorrow 🙂
I'd be thrilled to help….. you know it's a bit of an obsession for me :p 'there can never be too much glitter or magic' <3
I can't wait to see what you come up with this year too. My favourite was definitely Voldermort I think. I love the darker themed bracelets soooo much! x

          • endangeredtrolls

I’m just heading to bed but I suddenly remembered this. You probably saw it already but if you didn’t take a look 😉

            xxxx

  21. Beckie

Bwahahahaha! I hadn’t seen it, that’s just awesome LOL!
New workout music? yep… got it sorted ha ha
    Sleep well 🙂 xx

  22. Анна

    Thank you very much!

    • endangeredtrolls

      You are SO welcome! 🙂

      xxx

  23. Marie

Wow so many to choose from !
The dragons are by far my favourite… ‘Greedy dragon’, ‘Dragon’ and ‘Hoarder’.
I also love ‘Air, sea and land’, ‘Fantasy lock’, ‘Dancing’ and finally ‘Blooming Trolls’.

  24. beckie

How did I miss Jack Frost?? He’s lovely! <3

  25. Amber

2 more sleeps!!!! Wishing you all the best of luck, so many fantastic designs this year….Troll have a tough job!!!! x
