Trollbeads Northern Lights Magic Preview (Trollbeads People’s Bead 2018)

This Trollbeads blog brings a complete preview of the upcoming Trollbeads Northern Lights Magic, winner of the People’s Bead 2018.

Today sees the unveiling of the winner of the Trollbeads People’s Bead 2018 event and actually the tenth anniversary of this community occasion. I’ve always been a huge fan of this event though it didn’t receive much coverage on Endangered Trolls this year. This is purely because the new voting process makes it a little too time consuming for me to pull images but that aside, the ethos behind People’s Bead is amazing.

I’ve had a difficult time keep quiet about the People’s Bead winner since I first saw it. Quite simply because it’s incredible, though admittedly I’ve yet to see it in person. Last year the Trollbeads Wishful Sky left me declaring it my favourite glass of all time. I think maybe this could steal that spot. Further to that I think it will complement Wishful Sky.

Congratulations to Linda Kucina as the winner of the People’s Bead 2018 with the utterly amazing Trollbeads Northern Lights Magic. Congratulations to Trollbeads on an exquisite execution.

Trollbeads Northern Lights Magic

How many of you dream of seeing the Northern Lights? When it comes to bucket list experiences I suspect it’s high ranking. Our fascination with the heavens is enduring. I’ve battled with night sky themed bracelets for years. I say battled because capturing that view in beads is so difficult. The Trollbeads Northern Lights Magic may have managed this.

Over the polar circle, Northern light plays in the night sky. Pale silvery greens and violets dancing over the satin blue Milky Way. Magical and unforgettable, symbolizing the enchanting power of nature.

The Trollbeads Northern Lights Magic will retail at $55. Pre-orders begin on September the 3rd and the release date is September the 7th.

For those who didn’t follow the different phases of People’s Bead this year, what follows is the original artwork and Linda’s own inspiration for the bead.

Northern lights play in the night sky over the polar circle, pale silvery greens and violets over the satin blue Milky Way. Magical and unforgettable view, symbolizing the enchanting power of nature, Earth and the Sun. I chased my dream of seeing the Northern Lights my whole life and when I finally did I wished for a bead to tell the story of this absolutely magical experience. My dream bead would be dark, soft satin blue with bursts of pale, milky peppermint green and silvery violet with a slight sprinkle of stars underneath, encapsulated in a delicate faceted glass bead. The soul of the Northern Magic caught in a little wonder of glass. The image of the bead is an acrylic painting done by me and photoshopped on a Trollbeads core with my very limited photo editing knowledge. The other photo is a rough sketch with a felt tip just to see the facets and how it would look on a bracelet.

Trollbeads Northern Lights Magic Summary

I’m honestly a little astounded by this year’s winner and so ridiculously excited to see this in person and get an idea for the potential variation. In regards to that, I don’t see how this bead can’t vary and actually it probably should due to what it’s representing.

Obviously it’s not possible to pre-order yet but for anyone who has yet to order Wishful Sky, now is definitely the time to do that. Remember Wishful Sky is a limited edition so at some point those bracelets will vanish. You can find them via my retail partners at the links below:-

Quite frankly I want a bracelet full of these and Wishful Sky!

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Trollbeads Northern Lights Magic and will you be pre-ordering? Hit the comments and let me know!

Yes please! I did not tune in to the People’s Bead at all this year since it is so time consuming, so this is a pleasant surprise. I rarely buy multiples, but this may be an exception. Lovely colors and inspiration. Congrats to the winner.

    • endangeredtrolls

Isn’t it just amazing? πŸ˜› A stunning execution of an already beautiful design. Yeah.. you need multiples πŸ˜‰

  2. Stephanie

Aww!! I love it! I’m so glad it won! I definitely remember voting for it, although I don’t remember the other options. It’s such a unique and beautiful bead! I will definitely want at least two of not more!

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m really sad to say I didn’t really see the submissions so much this year which I feel terrible about. I’m sure there were many amazing designs – there always are :O This is just so stunning though πŸ˜€

  3. Sorrel

That is a gorgeous bead, congratulations to Linda. I love the story and inspiration behind it, another one to add to my wishlist.

    • endangeredtrolls

And it will look sooooooooo beautiful with Wishful Sky πŸ˜€

  4. Maria

It’s magic !!! Congratulations Linda Kucina 🌷 I think it’s the best peoples bead I’ve ever seen.

and Yes Victoria, a whole bracelet full of them would be utterly stunning πŸ˜ƒ

    Ohhhhhhhhhhh ….

  5. Myriam (it.beads.me)

Wow, O didn’t expect this! What an amazing bead! Congratulations to Linda. I can’t wait to get one!

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m not sure anyone could have predicted this πŸ˜€ It’s incredible πŸ˜€

  6. Christina Patterson

Amazing designs were submitted and I had a difficult time deciding among the finalists. I did vote for this bead so I’m thrilled. The Northern Lights are on my bucket list and the magic of the north drew me to Trollbeads.

    • endangeredtrolls

Traditionally I’ve always had a hard time selecting just a few “highlights” for Endangered Trolls coverage. I think one year I ended up with a “final” list of about 50 designs πŸ˜›

I do regret not seeing all of the submissions this year but ohhh I love the winner.

  7. Lola

I’ve seen the Northern Lights a few times in Alberta and the Yukon, amazing at the right times. This is a bead though I’ll have to see live images before buying, as it could possibly be too dark in small scale, without the colors setting it off, but even then I might pass if I can’t see it in person. I loved Wishful Sky in live pictures and bought three, two as gifts, but the glass doesn’t impress me much in person, unless of course I take it out in the sunlight. Some glass looks great in modeling pictures in perfect outdoor lighting, not so great in the house, the office, on rainy days, etc.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m sorry to hear you were disappointed with beads you received. Hopefully then you’ll get the opportunity to shop in person πŸ™‚

  8. Jamie

I think this is a wonderful bead to win. I can imagine all the beads that can go with it. A great extension for wishful sky. I did vote during the top 24, sorry I just couldn’t do the whole thing. But I love when a very solid concept gets through. A bead or idea that can be made no questions asked. I can see at least two for me on my star bracelet. Right next to my guiding stars and labradorites πŸ˜β˜„

    • endangeredtrolls

I can’t imagine anyone could argue this isn’t a worthy winner, it’s just beautiful πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Yes I’m with you.. it’s destined to be teamed with Wishful Sky πŸ˜€

      • Jamie

I forget which account but someone posted a video of the beads and they look AMAZING! This is a must bead and I’m even more excited 😍 You need to have a whole bracelet of nothing but and photograph them all together. This one is my favorite glass people’s beadπŸ’™

Out of curiosity, when do we get the autumn collection preview???!!😁

  9. Diane

Congratulations to Linda Cucina! πŸ˜€ Beautiful bead! I can’t wait for the live images, and I’ll probably stop at my local Trollbeads store to pick one out in person.

    • endangeredtrolls

I can’t wait to photograph this one πŸ˜€ I’ve been squealing about it for a couple of days πŸ˜€

  10. Angie

Despite my having lived in Europe once upon a time, my only experience of the Northern Lights is as a dull green glow on the northern horizon when I lived in Ohio. I am quite confident this bead will be much better. I can hardly wait for the live images, so I can buy a pair. Seeing the real thing is still on my bucket list.

    • endangeredtrolls

At some point I keep promising myself a winter get away – with my dog :p – to one of those beautiful glass cabins in Norway designed especially for viewing the aurora.

The aurora has always had to be hitting really high activity levels for it to be visible in Denmark (like KP 8) and then of course it needs to coincide with clear skies too πŸ˜›

I love these beads though πŸ˜€

  11. Brigitt J

Wow! I like the stock photo….hoping it is as good irl. I’d definitely get one, and it might be the catalyst for a new bracelet for some dark blue beads I’ve had sitting in my box. Some nights when I’m out at the barn I see the Northern Lights here, playing, sometimes pale, sometimes brighter. It’s always magical and special. Congratulations to Linda and TB!

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m so pleased to hear you like it so much that it’s inspired you πŸ™‚ I’m so excited for this release! Also just to see the variation! πŸ˜€

  12. Lori

I really love this bead from the stock images and I love the concept. I used to live in Northern Canada where the Northern Lights were amazingly beautiful. Congratulations to Linda the winner of the 2018 People’s Bead!

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah now we just all need to wait for the live images. That’s going to feel a loooong wait πŸ˜›

  13. Lisa G

I would buy like 6 and put it with alternating silver and gold☺

    • endangeredtrolls

I have a suspicion that a lot of people will be buying several :p

  14. Maryrose

Beautiful ! I can’t wait to see it. I wonder whether it will have the colour variations Inner Stregth showed. I have a September birthday, I’m already throwing massive hints at my long suffering husband πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    • Jen

I love it. In the stock photo, it looks like the glass is lilac. Kind of like Inner Strengh for the Eastern Facets series. Can’t wait to see it in person, I’m sure the beads will vary. This will also make a great addition to a Halloween themed bracelet, I’m imagining how it will look with the pale green beads, like Glow and the light greenish bubble uniques.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m pretty certain there’s going to be a lot of variation but then again I’m often proved wrong. Realistically there’s not too long to wait for live images I guess but it’s going to *feel* long!

  15. Francine

Oooh, this bead is amazing, I just love it. I hope I can find one just like the picture shown.

    • endangeredtrolls

Glad you like it so much πŸ˜€

  16. Lili

I absolutely love it! It’s in my favorite colours… Fasceted… perfect. I’m seriously thinking about a whole bracelet of them. Now what silver beads will I go with it? Decisions, decisions. 😍

    • endangeredtrolls

I don’t think you’ll be the only one option for a bracelet full somehow. What about something like Guiding Star?

  17. Faye_T

I hadn’t paid any attention to People’s Bead without your coverage Victoria. I didn’t even know the announcement was due but my word. Trollbeads have always known glass. Bravo Trollbeads.

    • endangeredtrolls

I know and I’m sorry and I genuinely do feel guilty as I’ve always covered People’s Bead. I don’t disagree with the new voting per se but it’s not accessible for me to get in there and grab images. Of course that should hardly be a priority when designing a voting system either πŸ˜‰

Anyway I’m glad to hear that you like it πŸ™‚

  18. Lorelai

I think this might be better than Wishful Sky

    • endangeredtrolls

I said that to someone yesterday!!

I love Wishful Sky but I had never imagined this πŸ˜€

  19. Joyce

Very pretty, but predictable. This is an easy bead for Trolbeads to make. I wonder if our voting does count.

    • endangeredtrolls

Well based on the feedback here you can see several readers say they voted for this design. No one has actually given any negative feedback at all. There’s a lot of buzz about it on social media. How then would you reach the conclusion that voting didn’t count? If an obscure bead won that no one seemed to like then sure but this is clearly a favourite.

I’m not really understanding any reasoning here.

  20. Linda

Beautiful bead! Will definitely need a pair. I was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights on a trip to Alaska a few years ago and this will be a great reminder.

    • AndreaU

I feel the same- great reminder of my trip to Iceland and seeing the lights.

  21. Em

Wonderful bead I want a pair of these, should work well with amethyst & onyx

  22. Veroniek

This is lovely! I will definitely buy 2 or 3, but I might have to wait until later this year, too many event beads and LE’s in September…
