Trollbeads Mexican Sugar Skull Gold, Spring Leaves Gold & Phoenix Gold

This Trollbeads blog brings a live image preview of the Trollbeads Mexican Sugar Skull Gold, Spring Leaves Gold & Phoenix Gold, all custom made pieces.

Trollbeads have always offered the opportunity for most silver pieces to be made in gold as a custom service. Predictably though there are wait times for this so more recently concept stores and retailers alike have been choosing particular designs to feature in gold at their events and trunk shows.

For fall 2018 the Great Lakes Boutique event is themed around Halloween and we selected four beads to be made in gold. Three will feature here today, the fourth will be unveiled following the official preview of the Trollbeads Fall 2018 collection.

Trollbeads Mexican Sugar Skull Gold, Spring Leaves Gold & Phoenix Gold

For Halloween we chose the Trollbeads Mexican Sugar Skull and this was one of the brand’s most popular designs for 2017. It fits well with the Halloween theme but it’s also just an incredibly focal bead. The size is good but it’s open work style prevents the weight (and thus the price,) from being too crazy. Incidentally the price is $611.

I’ve actually already showcased this on a couple of designs and it’s absolutely my favorite of the set.

The second design (and a close second favourite of the ones I’ve seen) is the Trollbeads Spring Leaves. I already loved this bead in silver. Despite it’s small size it’s incredibly useful and the gold entirely changes it’s vibe to a beautiful autumn leaf. The retail on this piece is $277. It’s small but it’s incredibly effective and perfect for fall lovers who want to bring some warmth to their bangles or bracelets but without the huge price tags.

The final design I can share for now is the Trollbeads Phoenix and in gold this is perfect for the Harry Potter fans. It retails at $692. This bead is awkward to photograph alone as it’s always needed the beads aside it to give context, so here’s a little bangle inspiration.

Trollbeads Mexican Sugar Skull Gold, Spring Leaves Gold & Phoenix Gold Summary

One thing should always be noted about Trollbeads custom gold; the pricing is only accurate for the current orders. Due to the fact these pieces aren’t in production and they’re made upon request, the pricing will always be different based on the current cost of gold.

We currently have a few of the Spring Leaves remaining and a single Phoenix. We’re hoping to have all three restocked for the event itself. If anyone is interested they can of course contact me directly.

Traditionally I was never a huge fan of yellow gold. I have very pale skin and as other ladies with the same will likely attest, it doesn’t look as great on us as those of you with more olive tones. (We wear rose so well though!) That aside I fell utterly in love with it following the autumn 2017 Bead Bash event when the Trollbeads reps were evil kind enough to bring a whole host of gold with them. Since then I’ve acquired a couple of pieces including the Celestial, Wishing Star and a Lovesome Spacer and they’re daily wear pieces.

For those of you who predominantly wear bangles as I do, the Spring Leaves is so beautiful. It sits so neatly between other beads and just that small glint of gold completely elevates a combination to something very special.

There are actually so many pieces I’d ultimately love to see in gold but these felt the most apt for this particular event.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on these Trollbeads custom gold pieces? Are you a fan of Trollbeads gold? Hit the comments and let me know!

A few months ago I had Trollbeads make a gold version of Spring Leaves, its absolutely beautiful and my favorite piece. I think the Life Circle bead would be great in gold also.

    • Lisa G

I didn’t like the life circle in gold. Its details became very indistinct, imo

      • endangeredtrolls

I think I’d prefer the Lightning Bug Spacer in gold. Similar texture but more noticeable.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes I know it’s not a large bead but it has a nicely accessible price for people I think and I still think it’s effective despite it’s smaller size.

I live for Trollbeads gold! I’m also very pale, but I can wear yellow gold. This is a blessing and a curse. I have a few custom pieces (giant lotus and capsule of life being my two favorite, followed closely by lotus top.) It’s fair to say that I’ll choose gold over silver just about every time.

The spring leaves in gold is a stroke of genius, and the sugar skull looks fantastic as well. I’m withholding my thoughts on the phoenix for now. The beads that require contrast are difficult to appreciate in gold. They tend to lose something without the oxidization. I’d need to see it in person to render a fair judgment.

    • Lisa G

I have the gold phoenix. It’s great!

      • endangeredtrolls

Glad you’re still enjoying it πŸ™‚

    • endangeredtrolls

It’s a nice piece but for photography purposes it definitely needs something next to it or it looks weird – same with the silver. The Spring Leaves are stunning in gold πŸ™‚

  3. Jamie

I think spring leaves looks perfect. A nice warm touch of gold to hug your glass or stones. And a good price too.
I’m excited to hear what the last gold bead is. Is there a date to expect that announcement?? πŸ˜„πŸŽƒ

    • endangeredtrolls

Probably early the week after next πŸ™‚ Depends a bit on my schedule. My calendar is scary right now :p

      • Jamie

Oh boy that’s going to feel like foreverπŸ˜‚ I know your up for the challenge, this is the beginning of your busy season!

        • endangeredtrolls

My calendar is just horrible. I try to give it no more than a fleeting glance :p Fortunately it takes a *lot* to make me work stressed as the busier we are, the more I tend to enjoy it. We have to wait for an official preview before we can unveil the final gold πŸ˜‰

  4. Maria

The gold wishing star is on top of my wish list ( twice ) and now the Northern Light also is on top of my wish list, I think they have to settle for a first place.
A Northern Light between two wishing stars …perfect !

    • endangeredtrolls

I think Northern Lights Magic is on the top of many a wish list right now πŸ˜€ Fortunately not long to wait for that one πŸ˜€

  5. Polly

I’m quite pale and pink-toned (with pink/purple ombre hair) so like you rose gold is much more my friend than yellow gold as a rule. I had therefore happily ignored Trollbeads gold for ages, until a fateful combination of events including Ohm Lucky Moves and the 20th anniversary of our March wedding meant that the Trollbeads 2016 day bead was a must-have. And regardless of the symbolism, I loved the look of the bead itself soooo much more than I expected. That set the seed, but I still expected it would be my only gold TB at least for a long time. But then the dancing butterfly came out in gold, and butterflies are meaningful to me, and I went to an event at the much-missed Cambridge store, where I was offered a good price on it… And after that came Celestial (and yep, stars are also meaningful to me) and the nice discount on production gold at Spring Bead Bash πŸ™‚ And then of course right at the end of Bead Bash I succumbed to the beautiful gold Guiding Star – and soooo glad I did as I absolutely love it! – and somehow without really intending it I have a gold collection πŸ˜€ For summer I have been wearing them eked out with my three 2-tone beads (stars, flowers, and the lovely dancing dragons) interspersed with pastel cz beads (healing heart etc) and pastel chakra/gold leaf glass <3 <3 <3 For winter I am thinking stones such as amethysts would look nice πŸ™‚

That being said, sadly I think Fawkes will be out of my budget, especially given the dire exchange rate (thanks a lot, Brexiteers) πŸ™ Just maybe I can swing spring leaves, though the problem there is that I'd really want two! A *lot* of mulling over my budget to be done, as there seem to be more things than ever that I want this autumn, what with assorted event beads, the massive ohm retirement, and possible ACA special edition goodness – and that's not even considering regular releases! Help! πŸ˜€

    • endangeredtrolls

It sounds like you fell into gold much like I did :p I do know rose looks better against my skin but Trollbeads are clearly unconcerned by that (and I mean that teasingly :p) The simple thing was when I really was faced with it and had a chance to hold it and play with it.. it was a very slippery slope. Now my few pieces are almost daily wears and at that point you look at the retail prices and they don’t feel so scary.

Fawkes is amazing and looks fabulous with gemstones. In regards to Spring Leaves, for what it’s worth one looks beautiful on a bangle between two stones or glass. I completely understand why you’d be drawn to a pair but if you want to treat yourself without going crazy, don’t be deterred. I was wearing one for a couple of weeks between two emeralds and it was soooo pretty!

  6. Bethany

I’ve concentrated more on the two tone – love the hint of gold against silver – but have also started down the slippery slope of all gold…

My husband bought me the gold Endless a couple of years ago for Christmas and it’s gorgeous – the different textures work really well. And then as a combined 10th wedding anniversary/birthday/christmas/graduating degree with 1st class present, he bought me the Yes! bead…and it’s amazing…sooooo sparkly…drool… I also love the X shape on the top and bottom – roman numeral for 10, so perfect for the anniversary πŸ˜€

I wear both every day separated by a Beehive spacer and two ordinary silver spacers – so each gold bead has about 1 inch of free chain to move and both still look box fresh – paired with a delicate 18ct gold bracelet I inherited from my grandmother. The other wrist gets all the other beads!

My husband knows the gold ones are a safe bet for presents – I’m unlikely to get them myself as I’ll start saving up and then several ‘ooooo, that’s pretty’ later (I’m looking at you Ohm BOTM, TB sales and new collections), I’m back to Β£0…

Do love the Spring Leaves so I might have to leave hint about on the run up to Christmas!!

    • endangeredtrolls

In fairness this isn’t your fault. Your husband clearly started your new gold “thing”. You are blameless πŸ˜‰

  7. Trudy (Borger)

I am a huge fan of the custom gold, I have the Winds of Change lock, Midgard Serpent, Seer, etc. So cool that you can order beads from the current collection to be made in gold! Thank you for sharing this, Victoria!

    • endangeredtrolls

Oh I’dd love that lock in gold. It’s one of the locks I use the most.

  8. Geslina

I started about 2.5 years ago with the lucky knot in gold. It made such an amazing difference on my bracelet that I became obsessed with getting more gold beads, then a gold lock and safety chain, and finally this summer, a gold bracelet. Now my entire bracelet is gold, and I am so happy with it. No regrets, in spite of the cost. TB gold is so beautiful, and of such high quality…I wear my bracelet all the time, only take it off if it might get wet…and every bead still looks brand new. Now I want a gold Mexico lock.
