Trollbeads Labradorites & Feldspar Moonstones for the Blood Moon Eclipse

This Trollbeads blog brings a little inspiration starring the Trollbeads Labradorites and Feldspar Moonstones and styled for the blood moon eclipse.

July the 27th sees the longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century and the moon will turn a reddish orange shade, thus giving it’s name. Further to that Mars will be passing it’s closest to the earth and will be visible with the naked eye, (though it actually has been for a little while now.) As celestial events go, tonight should be pretty spectacular.

I wanted to make a bracelet to mark the occasion and this time it’s quite different and incredibly simple.

Trollbeads Labradorites & Feldspar Moonstones

I’ve shown so many night sky themed bracelets here over the years and usually they focus on inky blue shades with themed silvers. This bracelet is so simple and yet it’s absolutely beautiful in person. It uses Trollbeads Labradorites and Feldspar Moonstones. Labradorites are obviously very flashy gemstones anyway but the batch this summer have been exception. There are a lot of translucent stones in circulation. Meanwhile feldspar moonstones tend to fall into two categories; those with glitter and those with pearlescent patches. The colour of these moonstones is so perfect for a blood moon too. The lock is of course the beautiful new Redbalifrog Moon Face Lock.

Here’s the end result.

Obviously these are core collection beads and available at all retailers. Below you’ll find a list of my retail partners. For reference some of the beads used here are already live at Great Lakes.

Trollbeads Labradorites & Feldspar Moonstones Summary

I did actually try multiple versions of this bracelet with silver beads but nothing quite felt right. The closest I found was using the Ohm Beads Luna as a focal and then separating the beads with simple silver spacers. Unfortunately I ran out. The lack of silver here does really let the gemstones shine though.

To those of you sky gazing tonight, I wish you a clear and beautiful evening.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on this bracelet and does anyone else have a favourite night sky combination? Hit the comments and let me know!

    I do love that lock.

Off topic: Do you know if the inside of the Cerulean Jewel Box is tarnish resistant cloth? I ask because I can’t find that info anywhere, and if you mentioned it before, I missed it. Here’s the thing. I moved to a more humid area and my copper that didn’t used to tarnish hardly at all started to tarnish. I got tired of cleaning it a few weeks ago, maybe, so I cleaned it all one last time, shiny new, and shoved it all into the back of one of my Cerulean boxes–cuffs behind the rods, and stoppers on the rods, with beads I rarely go for. Today I went in there to get a couple of copper spacers, expecting to have to clean them, and all my copper is still shiny like brand new. :-0 It that creepy, or is that supposed to happen?

There was no information suggesting it was tarnish proof and I think they would have included that. The thing is, it depends what is tarnishing your jewellery. Everything from skin oils, cosmetics, humidity and so on can tarnish jewellery and different things tarnish different metals. I know skin oils definitely tarnish copper which is why some ladies polish their copper to perfection in a morning and by mid afternoon it’s dark.

If you’re sealing the jewellery away from all of that, it will help 🙂 Storing them in zip lock bags is actually the best solution but of course that’s not exactly as pretty as jewellery boxes or displays 😉

My copper tarnishes at the same rate worn or stored, skin contact makes no difference here, and it tarnishes so much faster in zip bags, almost instantly. Bags are the worst copper storage for me. But as soon as I put it all into the Cerulean box, the tarnishing stopped. I have no idea why, but I’ll gladly accept the effect. 🙂
