Trollbeads January 2014 Retirement News (Updated)

With so many new releases during 2013, it was mostly assumed we’d be seeing a Trollbeads January 2014 retirement. This Trollbeads blog brings the first details of retiring beads. In addition comes a confirmed release date for the Trollbeads Spring 2014 collection.

Please note this article has been superseded by the new Trollbeads Retirement 2014 article. Please refer to that list instead.

Today is the main Christmas celebration here in Denmark. Many other countries are enjoying Christmas Eve. I’ve always found Christmas Eve to be either lovely and relaxing or absolute chaos if you’re left wrapping presents and tackling food shopping. Whatever your plans for today, I’d like to wish all my readers a Very Merry Christmas! I’ve held back this article specifically for today as I knew it would be of interest to so many.

2013 has been a busy year for Trollbeads when you consider the sheer amount of new releases. In addition to the Trollbeads Spring 2013, Trollbeads Mother’s Day 2013, Trollbeads Easter 2013, Trollbeads Fall 2013, Trollbeads People’s Bead 2013 (otherwise known as Traditional Sayings,) and Trollbeads Christmas 2013 collections there has been a plethora of limited edition releases:-

Those marked with a * were US exclusive beads.

Of course, this list doesn’t account for the frenzy that surrounded the Trollbeads Small & Beautiful beads. In light of all these releases, a Trollbeads retirement for January 2014 was predictable. In years past Trollbeads would restrict retirements to every two years but they’ve drastically increased their number of releases.

I’ve now managed to obtain an early list of the Trollbeads January 2014 retirement. I want to stress this may not be 100% accurate, primarily because names and codes were given during a conversation rather than via any form of written communication. Further to that there are some gold beads retiring but these are unconfirmed at present. If this is not entirely accurate, my sincerest apologies!

Trollbeads January 2014 Retirement

Three glass sets are most definitely exiting production in January; The Trollbeads Black & White Kit, the Trollbeads New Black and White Kit and the Trollbeads Purple Kit.

The individual beads within the Trollbeads Black & White Kit are as follows:-

  • Trollbeads Eye Bead
  • Trollbeads White Bubbles
  • Trollbeads White Flower
  • Trollbeads White Steel
  • Trollbeads Black & White Stripes
  • Trollbeads Black Dot

The individual beads within the Trollbeads New Black & White Kit are:-

  • Trollbeads Zebra
  • Trollbeads Black Armadillo
  • em>Trollbeads Fashion Flower
  • Trollbeads Black Bubbles
  • Trollbeads Chess
  • Trollbeads Black Spot

A “new” Trollbeads City Fashion Kit is being created by merging the retiring kits. In light of this only three beads from each kit will now be retiring. The Trollbeads City Fashion Kit comprises the Black Armadillo, the Fashion Flower, the Chess, the White Bubbles, the White Flower and White Steel. These beads will not retire.

Finally the individual beads within the Trollbeads Purple Kit are:-

  • Trollbeads Purple Flower Bud
  • Trollbeads Purple Dot
  • Trollbeads Blue Fizz
  • Trollbeads Purple Stripes
  • Trollbeads Purple Flower
  • Trollbeads Purple Bubbles

In addition to the three glass kits, the Trollbeads Goldstone and Blue Goldstone are also leaving the collection.

Trollbeads January 2014 Retirement Summary

First of all as I already stated this list isn’t complete. The retiring gold beads are most definitely missing and I have a suspicion a few other designs are also absent.

Some of the beads are predictable. The Trollbeads Snow bead was replaced last year with the Trollbeads Winter Snow (pictured below.) Winter Snow has been a regular feature on my winter bracelets and is a far more contemporary feeling bead.

The Trollbeads Turtles and Happy Fish are also being replaced by new designs in the Trollbeads Spring 2014 collection.

Both the red and green leather have since been replaced with the newer duo-tone versions, both of which are pictured below.

I’m a little shocked to see the Trollbeads Goldstone & Blue Goldstone retire. While I admit I have neither of these beads, it’s more that I’ve never gotten round to acquiring them than disliking them. Indeed I think they’re beautiful beads!

I’m not terribly shocked to see the Trollbeads Pax leave the collection, primarily because designer Suzanne Hopping has been producing her own version for quite some time. Many collectors have argued that Suzanne’s version boasts far more detailing.

Obviously none of these beads will disappear quickly and there’s definitely no reason to rush buy anything. They’ll retire just before the Trollbeads Spring 2014 collection which is set to debut on Friday January the 24th. Looking at the themes within the Trollbeads Spring 2014 release, there are a few beads retiring that would complement the new series beautifully. Such beads are the Trollbeads Turtles, Happy Fish and in my opinion, the aforementioned Goldstone. With such sparkling glass beads and a definite dessert theme underpinning the release, the Goldstone would be ideal.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Trollbeads January 2014 retirement? Are you surprised about any of the retiring beads? Will you be adding any of these designs to your wishlist or are you saving for the Trollbeads Spring 2014 collection? Hit the comments and let me know!

Phew! Not too many that I want but don’t have yet are being retired, but I am a bit sad that the goldstones are going as I had just come around to thinking I might want them and wanted to have a closer look the next time I was in my LD. I know I still have time as they aren’t likely to sell out immediately, but I like to be quite sure of something before I buy it, so it does put a *tiny* bit more pressure on :D

I’m excited to see the new release in person though so it’s nice to know the exact date for it!

    • endangeredtrolls

So many of these beads I don’t have! I’m also sad to see the goldstones go. I don’t have any.. but more because they’re on the never ending wishlist than because I don’t like them. One of the themes for the Trollbeads Spring 2014 collection is now confirmed as being Arabian Nights so I think the goldstone with those lovely brown tones could work well :)

One month til the spring release! Shame it’s not one month til spring.. ;)

      Merry Christmas!

    Thanks for the information!

Fortunately for me there is isn’t really anything there that I ‘must’ have. I already have most of the LE releases that I want except the LE dillos.
As for the B&W’s I have most of the ones I want as well. You’re quite correct when you mentioned that TB has been releasing so many new beads. As a relatively new collector I was feeling a bit overwhelmed.

I hope that you have a wonderful holiday and that the Trollbead Santa is good to you!

    Merry Christmas! :)

Not too much that I have to have, fortunately, although I’ll probably pick up the Chess and the Zebra, and possibly the black dillo. I’ve been toying with the idea of a black and white bracelet for a while, but have had trouble locating many B&W uniques I’ve truly liked. So I figured there was no hurry to get the production beads I wanted for it. The Happy Fish and Turtles are cute, but I’m not sure if they’re must-haves for me.

Thanks for sharing the news, and Merry Christmas!

    • endangeredtrolls

I have to admit, I have the White Bubbles and that’s basically it so it looks like I’ll have some shopping to do. Ironically I love dillos but never purchased the black one – mostly because I radiate towards the uniques rather than collection versions.

I think the new turtles from the spring release is a nicer bead.

Merry Christmas Kim! Hope you had a great day :)

Nothing too earth shattering there. Lots of lovely black & white beads but I’ve got plenty of B&W — many of those beads in fact.

I always thought Falling Leaves was a lovely bead. I like small beads. I buy them in pairs since they make a nice transition from full-sized beads to the locks. Falling Leaves was a favorite among that group because I like the way the leaves are suggested by the negative space. It also has lots of texture and shadow. But, as always in life, out with the old and make way for the new.

Merry Christmas, Victoria and all. Best wishes for the coming year. Let’s all hope for more peace and security for everyone around the world!

    • endangeredtrolls

I think a lot of people love Falling Leaves so it will be sad to see that design go. I’m pondering if there are black and white beads due for the Trollbeads Autumn 2014 collection given these two kits seem to be retiring. Certainly the spring release is too sparkly to suspect any blacks appearing!

I hope you’ve had a wonderful day rainey

      /hugs

Merry Christmas! And thank you for maintaining this wonderful blog! We also celebrate Christmas Eve as the big one, my father was from Denmark and although he died a long time ago my mother preferred doing it his way, and thus I do too.

Retirements – not too many I feel I’ve missed that I think I should have, except for the Blue Goldstone, might grab one when I get a chance.

All the very best over the Season!

    • endangeredtrolls

We actually celebrate both days. The 24th with the Danish family and then the 25th with English food. Right now I’m feeling utterly stuffed ;)

I think I’m going to need a couple of goldstones for sure..

      Merry Christmas! :D

  6. Joyce Hulings

I am sad to see the Blue Goldstone and Fall Leaves be retired. I have multiples of these beads and love them. None of the kits are must haves for me.

  7. Liz

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas and thank you for your brilliant site, it’s been wonderfull to read this year and I look forward to next year xx

    • endangeredtrolls

Thank you so much and have a wonderful Christmas! :)

  8. Linda

wow–really surprised both black and white kits are going. I thought they would be in the line forever. Black and white is such a staple for any wardrobe.
It seems like all the new beads are glittery or iridescent. A few are fine, but I still like the “normal” glass. that’s a big reason I started with Trollbeads. all the other brands are too glitzy and rhinestone-y. (for me)

Hope everyone has a trollful holiday,
    Linda

    • endangeredtrolls

I admit that I thought the same but you never know what they have planned. Most of the spring release has been seen but perhaps the fall collection is based on black and white beads. It’s certainly possible as Trollbeads will be in the process of finalising the fall beads at the moment.

Did you receive any beads for Christmas? :)

      Merry Christmas! :D

  9. Anne - Norway

Merry Christmas Victoria, and many thanks for your persistent work all year long! :-)
When the B&W kits go, does all the individual beads i them leave the collection as well? Probably, but then I sincerely hope there will come new B&W ones shortly! They are the base of any composition I make, cannot live without them :-)

    Jingle, jingle from Oslo!

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi Anne,

When the kit goes, so do all the component beads. To my knowledge there are now black and white beads due in any of the imminent releases but perhaps further down the line :)

      Merry Christmas!
