Trollbeads Day 2018 Preview – Trollbeads Wings of Amber

This Trollbeads blog brings a complete preview of the Trollbeads Wings of Amber, limited edition bead for Trollbeads Day 2018.

The preview for the Trollbeads Day 2018 Bead this year has been somewhat messy. Images were leaked weeks ago but often removed from the source. Retailers in Europe are accepting pre-orders where retailers in the USA were still not permitted to share images. Today the embargo on the images for the USA is finally lifted and we can begin to discuss the Trollbeads Wings of Amber.

Trollbeads Day 2018 lands on Saturday June the 9th and that is the official launch date for Wings of Amber. I will state that US retailers have been told there are strictly no pre-orders which is quite consistent with previous years.

Trollbeads Day was first celebrated in 2014 and marked with a silver bead. For 2015 it was glass. 2016 saw a gold design and finally 2017 was the Golden Rutilated Quartz. When considering the materials that Trollbeads work with, I suppose it should have been obvious that 2018 would deliver amber. Nevertheless I hadn’t made this connection until the first images were leaked and now I absolutely can’t wait.

Trollbeads Wings of Amber

As many of you are already aware, there are two different versions of this bead launching. The Trollbeads Wings of Amber bead is amber with silver bug details on it’s surface. The first versions retailing at $75 each have one silver bug. The second versions retailing at $115 each have two bugs. Either version of the bead has the year stamped on the core as has become traditionally for Trollbeads Day.

The official video has also been circulating social media after it was released a couple of weeks ago. If you haven’t seen it, here it is!

Trollbeads Wings of Amber Summary

I’m a huge fan of amber. As a material I find it incredibly beautiful and it’s so very unique. Obviously amber varies enormously and so will these beads. Fortunately many online retailers offer live shopping these days.

This weekend is the Great Lakes Boutique Summer 2018 event. It will incorporate the Trollbeads buy three get one free promotion (though do note of course that the 2018 collections are excluded) and at the centre of our festivities will be live shopping for Wings of Amber. On a personal level I absolutely can’t wait to begin photographing these beads. Amber is such a joy to capture in images and as mentioned, we’re expecting huge variation.

As soon as the bead launches on midnight Friday night / Saturday morning, I’ll be detailing ordering links. This will include the retailers offering live shopping (which I suspect most are going to do because it’s such an exciting weekend for Trollbeads.)

I’ve recently been experimenting with bee themed bracelets with my latest attempt pictured below. I can’t wait to revamp this bracelet to incorporate Wings of Amber. I’m still so sad I missed the Trollbeads Day 2016 Bead in the gold and that’s always going to be a glaring hole in my collection.

MUST get 1 of each. Hope I can find a set with similar amber.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m sure you can. I suspect there’ll be a lot of live images come the weekend πŸ˜€

  2. Janet M

I only have two Amber beads; the first I thought was wood and the second is very black and does not look like amber.
After seeing these pictures, I may be buying one of each. They really are beautiful and can’t wait to see them in person.

    • endangeredtrolls

They are indeed lovely and I think customers are going to have a lot of fun choosing just the beads for them πŸ˜€

  3. Angela

Oh my goodness Victoria, these are fabulous as these are going to be available in so many shades, colors and textures I will have to aim for several. Can you even imagine a whole bracelet of these. Cannot wait to see how you style them. They are a tad pricey but IMO multiples needed , list rearrangement time
Still have not ordered my Bee Stoppers as yet went to order them last week but sadly opted for Capsule of Life and Lightening Bud, the Bee Stoppers will probably now be out of stock.
We moved to Texas a few years ago (land of larger Silver jewelry with Turquoise,Red Jasper and Tiger Eye ) have been wearing either all silver bracelets /bangles or with Stones. Somehow lots of colorful little glass beads does not suit like when I am in New York.
Ambers work in both places , plus I love them and like you cannot wait to get them in hand.

Thanking Trollbeads for these beauties in advance and as June 9th is my birthday forwarding this link to my family.Have not been this excited about a Trollbead product launch for a long ,long time.
    Hugs.

After seeing a somewhat cryptic post on Trollbeads Puerto Rico’s Facebook page, I had guessed amber, so I was hoping for something like this. Amber is my absolute favorite material, so I, of course, want one of each. Can’t wait for Saturday!

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m a huge amber fan too. It’s so unique in what it brings to jewellery and despite what many people think about it being dated, it’s all about the styling I think.

I think a lot of collectors are going to have fun on Saturday whether they’re hunting in person or online πŸ˜€

I have a lot of amber, which is super light and easy to wear, whereas silver is heavy, even when it’s minimal, it appears heavy because it’s a metal; even copper appears heavy. I’m sure the silver bugs aren’t heavy of themselves, but because I know the materials, the balance of these beads will always look off to me and I could never wear one. Though jarring to my sense of balance, I very much like the creativity displayed; the beads have an appealing antique look, which is why they combine well with “old lady” pearls. So I applaud that hard-to-achieve new-yet-old dynamic. I would have preferred the bugs inside the lighter amber for better balance, but I’ll guess there’s great difficulty in that. I do look forward to seeing how people use the beads. I’ve seen mostly pastels so far, people siding with the old feel of the beads and using softer shades that remind me of grandma’s tea room. I’d put these beads in a Jurassic setting, with colors that bite. πŸ˜€

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah.. amber is quite a delicate material so I don’t think it would take inlays in the way you’d want to put the insects inside. At least that’s my gut reaction.

  6. Katie

Love, love, love!! I love my amber beads. I thought that I had bought my last one, but I was wrong. I hope to buy one of each, also. I’ll be shopping from the live images, because I hope to find amber that I like. These will go really well with my Bee-related Ohm beads….

    • endangeredtrolls

You can never have enough amber πŸ˜€ It’s just too unique to limit yourself like that πŸ˜‰

And yes the Bee Ohm silvers are utterly perfect for amber bracelets, especially during the summer months πŸ™‚

  7. Kim

You know I love amber, so I’m very happy with these. I was a little uncertain about the bee at first, but after seeing multiple photos from bloggers on social media over the weekend, I’m sold. Selecting one will be all about the amber for me, so I’ll look forward to your live photos. I’d like either a gold one with sparkles, or a dirty sparkles.

    • endangeredtrolls

Oh absolutely it’s all about the individual pieces of amber! πŸ™‚ I’m keen to see what actual variation arrives with retailers as there have always been certain styles and types more coveted than others… Ohhhhh I am SO excited for these

  8. Lynne

I absolutely love amber, even had a kitty who lived to 15 named Amber. I have a Troll bangle bracelet with amber beads and would love one of these new ones with 1 bee, but I just can’t justify the price. I am trying to embrace bees lately because I am highly allergic to their stings, just wish it was more affordable. Also, I am wondering if this bead would hang upside down due to the silver on it? That is something that annoys me with several pretty beads in many companies.

    • endangeredtrolls

These beads are probably going to spin. I don’t really see how that wouldn’t happen. However if you’re a bangle wearer I’m also pretty certain you can pin it tight with spacers – and that’s how I’ll be wearing mine for sure.

  9. Jamie

I am very pleased to see this design, unexpected yet just what the collection needed. I thought we’d see another silver, I didn’t think about an amber bead. It’s warm, inviting and obviously everyone is eager to get their hands on them. And it’s great they are offering 2 versions. Also not too terrible of a price for either. I just worry if the bees will fall out or come loose, even worse the bead chipping. But all that aside I’m sure it will all be fine🐝

    • endangeredtrolls

Amber never crossed my mind either. It’s funny because as I mention in the article… it makes complete sense! We’ve had silver, glass, gold, gemstone.. what’s the glaring omission? It’s totally logical but nope. I never thought of it πŸ˜€

I watched the video of the process for these beads with interest. I’m aware through other channels that amber is quite delicate and you have to be careful with what you do with it. Originally rumours were that the bees were glued on but I can’t imagine that being very durable… It was interesting to see that they’d pinned it.

Trollbeads are usually very good at testing things like this first and I have a suspicion the team in Denmark know a lot about amber at this stage but still, you aren’t the only one who has asked those questions and I guess time will tell πŸ™‚

      • Jamie

Yes amber was a total surprise, so does that mean we get silver again next year or is there a material I’m missing πŸ˜…
As for the durability I do believe it will be okay, it is a nice step that they use a post. I was worried that if they were glued we’d be hearing horror stories.
This is such a cute bead and I really look forward to seeing them in person. All the examples I’ve seen so far have been beautifully designed.

  10. Faye S.

    Very cool!

    • endangeredtrolls

      Isn’t it? πŸ˜€

Now what would be really exciting is if some of the amber set aside for these beads has insect inclusions πŸ˜‰ Imagine finding a Wings of Amber bead.. with an insect inside πŸ˜€

  11. Emma

Want one at the very least, navy and orange my favourite colours.

    • endangeredtrolls

I love orange and navy but the combination always makes me think of fall. That’s fine with me. I’m so ready for summer to be over and it’s barely started but still. I can’t see the colours together and not associate them with autumn πŸ˜€

  12. SWW

If you have explained this already and I have missed it, I’m sorry. But, if the release is absolutely not until Saturday, I assume that means that if someone attends the event in-store on Friday only they will not be able to get a Wings of Amber bead?

    • endangeredtrolls

Correct! Wings of Amber does not release until Saturday the 9th and there are no pre-orders of any type πŸ™‚

Trunk shows generally run three days which is what we’re doing at GLB πŸ™‚ But no Wings of Amber will be sold until the Saturday πŸ™‚

  13. Dee

These look gorgeous, especially the sparkly ones. I’d love to see some lives images of ordinary amber that compliment the wings of amber. I think they’d pop more if they’re interspersed between other glass/amber on a bracelet.

    • endangeredtrolls

I have a suspicion retailers will be listing plenty of amber at the weekend πŸ™‚ For anyone wanting to make a complete bracelet, a full set of the Wings of Amber is costly, where you could flesh it out with amber uniques too πŸ™‚

      • Dee

        😁😁😁😁

  14. Sunny

I love it and am eagerly waiting for Saturday.
Next year it could be a special pearl for TB Das if you follow the different material pattern.

    • Pippa

Sunny, I like your thinking!!! Maybe something like the old Peacock pearl, or maybe a nice silvery gray…

    • endangeredtrolls

I’d love to see more pearls. I’m also utterly bias as I missed the Peacock Pearls and have always regretted that πŸ™ Or carved pearls!

      • Pippa

I love the Peacock Pearls, and may admit to having small stash πŸ™‚
