Thomas Sabo Karma Beads Preview as the Brand Debut a New Bead Concept

Thomas Sabo are famed for their charm bracelets. These mimic the traditional style with open link bracelets and dangle style designs. New for spring 2014, Thomas Sabo Karma Beads have debuted as the brand take a staggering leap into the bead bracelet concept. Ever found yourself yearning for a contemporary bead bracelet? This is perfect!

I’ve always been a fan of Thomas Sabo, albeit I’ve lacked the resources to really indulge in the brand. Their charm bracelet isn’t to all tastes however as it embraces the traditional dangle style concept. Last week Thomas Sabo offered a brief glimpse of a new line called Karma Beads. Indeed today’s article was originally intended as a sneak peek. Initially it was difficult to comprehend the specifics of this new line but late last night, they launched it online. What follows is a preview of the Thomas Sabo Karma Beads Collection.

This new line sees Thomas Sabo move into the bead bracelet concept and I can’t describe how utterly thrilled I am. This is quite a large article due to the magnitude of the launch collection but I’d encourage anyone interested in beads to take a look.

Thomas Sabo Karma Beads – How to Wear

The Thomas Sabo Karma Beads are designed to be worn on bracelets or necklaces. A complimentary range of earrings and rings has debuted. Immediately I’m coveting the rings with an incredibly on trend design. These are attached to a Karma Beads Bracelet via the chain (super vogue!) It’s worth noting the bead shaped fastenings on bracelet and necklace, ensuring a very cohesive appearance.

Thomas Sabo Karma Beads

The launch collection constitutes an impressive seventy one beads. These encompass everything from gemstones to pavé and openwork to gothic skulls. It’s undoubtedly the most contemporary take I’ve seen on the bead bracelet to date. Prices vary from 149 DKK ($27 / £16 / 20 EURs) to 1090 DKK ($191 / £116 / 141 EURs.) The gold and rose gold are plated silver and not solid.

Thomas Sabo Karma Beads Summary

Firstly I’d like to stress that I haven’t seen this physically seen this collection yet as it launched just a few hours ago at Thomas Sabo. That aside my initial impression was “this is what the Pandora Essence Collection” should have looked like. I do suspect the beads are larger than the Essence charms but that’s purely personal speculation.

This is a very contemporary take on the bead bracelet concept and I’m absolutely coveting both a bracelet and complementary ring. The highlight for me is the fabulous Brit bead but I adore many of the designs.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the Thomas Sabo Rebel at Heart Collection and to demonstrate how edgy these bracelets can look (and as a little eye candy for the ladies,) here’s a behind the scenes movie of Nico Rosberg for Thomas Sabo (please note the movie has sound.)

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the new Thomas Sabo Karma Beads Collection for spring 2014? Are you coveting this new line? Hit the comments and let me know!

    Victoria Wow,

I like these a lot and you are so right, this was more along the line of what I thought Pandora’s Essence was going to look like.

    • endangeredtrolls

      Aren’t they amazing?

They’re absolutely a new idea for Thomas Sabo and yet you can see it’s their work. The designs are just so effortlessly “them”.

This is exactly what I thought the Pandora Essence Collection would be and yet it looks drab by comparison. I am sooo desperate to get some of these :>

      /hugs

  2. Karin

I like these a lot, but I’d have to see them IRL, which is difficult, because I only know them in Las Vegas, a long ways from me. And I’d have to know the price. TS is quite expensive.

What size are these in comparison to those teensy Pandora beads?

    Karin

    • Karin

I saw TS in Finland too at Stockman’s.

    • endangeredtrolls

I have no idea on the size. They only launched online last night so they’re not yet stocked by retailers. The best option is to watch the movie as it at least gives live shots on a male wrist

The prices are all detailed on the website :)

      Kind Regards
      Victoria

  3. Maryll

Thanks for sabotaging my savings plan, Victoria! ;-) Seriously, this line is gorgeous and contemporary and unusual….and someone who came up with Pandora Essence is worrying about their job right now. I love that the beads don’t move and the versatility of the whole collection. Please let us know when it’s actually available to order. Hopefully, not too soon so I can save up some money!

    • endangeredtrolls

Haha I’m so sorry! Who would have seen a Thomas Sabo collection making such waves!

They’re available to order from ThomasSabo.com – but you need to select your region and should be hitting retailers in the next week or so I believe.

      I’m in love!

  4. Meeta

The range looks amazing and the movie is cool, I agree that Essence looks average in comparison (I do still like the slimness and simplicity as well although I’m more eager to indulge in TB) – can’t wait to see these in real life. I’m already eye-ing a few charms up!

    • endangeredtrolls

Some parts of Essence I love.. the slim bracelets (as you said) the idea of cleaner lines.. but I don’t know. Maybe it launched too early with not enough charms? I just found my excitement for it waned so very quickly and I wonder about the longevity of the concept. How many inner values can they release? What happens when they exhaust inner values? I also feel some of the stones don’t compare to Trollbeads :(

      I love that Brit Bead!

      xxx

  5. Cheryl

WOW…would like several of these beads. It looks like stoppers are needed to hold the beads in place? Don’t have a Pandora Essence but I like the silicone in the beads so they don’t move. I have some dangles from Thomas Sabo and the quality is outstanding.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m actually not sure Cheryl. The nearest Sabo store to me is two hours away though I am trying to beg, borrow, steal samples to at least photograph and offer an idea of the concept.

Thomas Sabo make stunning jewellery I agree but I know many don’t like the traditional dangle charm bracelets. When I saw this, honestly I started giggling manically as I just *knew* how much my readers would love it ;)

  6. Rycrafty

Do we think these will fit on Trollbead bracelets? I love that Brit bead!

    • endangeredtrolls

Absolutely no idea at present I’m afraid. I’d guess they probably would since Trollbeads bracelets are kinda skinny but can’t really say for sure.

      Kind Regards
      Victoria

      • magpie369

Very interesting concept! I’ll for sure check these out IRL once they are available. And I’ll bring along a TB necklaces to find out whether I can mix and match them … otherwise it’s a no go for me, too expensive to start something new from scratch.

I like some of the stone beads the most, they seem to be more on the smaller side compared to TB. Also would love to have a bead or two in rose gold.

        Warm regards,
        magpie

        • endangeredtrolls

I adore rose gold I must admit and this is plated so the price tag isn’t frightening. I’m coveting these something fierce but I do have difficulty in picturing the size, even with the movie.

As mentioned earlier, I’m am trying to beg / borrow / steal (not literally of course ;)) some samples so fingers crossed

          xxx

  7. Francine

Yes, looks amazing, Pandora Essence is sooooo boring to me. This one is more interesting.

    • Francine

Oh, forget to mention, I saw an Essence bracelet in real life recently and the little charm beads are very small, hopefully these are larger.

      • endangeredtrolls

Essence is VERY small. I’ve loved the campaign images of Essence heavily stacked together but I’m slightly intimidated by the fact that the look I covet will costs thousands to achieve. By contrast one bracelet of these can look very rock n’ roll and stacking would just be a plus.

Difficult to judge the size though I agree. I’ve watched the movie countless times and I’m just struggling to place in my head how these would compare to other brands.

  8. Farica

Wow, I loved way more of these way better than I was expecting to. I’ll also be interested to know if they fit on a TB bracelet, or a Pandora, since I’d certainly buy some of the beads, but not that enthused about having to buy more bracelets. But, wow, in any case!

    • endangeredtrolls

I think a lot will be surprised by these. It rockets Thomas Sabo into an entirely different market while keeping their same, quite iconic, signature look.

I actually like to have branded bracelets for different brands and I love the beaded lock on this. The only downside is needing to fund another chain :/

      Kind Regards
      Victoria

  9. Francine

Also like the fact that these are not rubber lined.

    • endangeredtrolls

I think some will see that as a plus, others as a negative. I love the idea behind Essence but the execution, for me and at the moment, isn’t quite working. I don’t know if it’s the fact that they launched with relatively few beads or if it’s the fact that the look I covet with Essence is many bracelets stacked (and the cost of that is horrific.)

This is definitely more my look.

  10. Debbie

    Hi Victoria,

I am excited by this new range and groaning at the same time at the thought of yet another jewellery system on my wishlist ;-)

I had a look on their website and there’s also a video of Georgia May Jagger who seems to be fronting up the female version on the bracelet. It’s difficult to suss out the size of the beads but they definitely look larger than Essence. I am coveting the skull and dragon charms :-) the karma wheel is a nice twist and links the bracelet to the ring -although as a look i’m a bit too old to pull that one off ;-)

Having had my Essence bracelets for about 3 months I agree with your comments that it’s limited as a range, and I’ve found that I quickly got bored with the coloured stones, and I now tend to wear 2 bracelets with all silver beads and that looks elegant. I also found I bought based on the design as opposed to the name representing the inner value. The facted charms are the ones I most regret buying, and I think if the Sabo range had of been available at the time Essence was launched I would have gone with this instead of Essence. I have enough Esence to just about achieve a stacked look, but it’s too expensive to be able to replicate the campaign images :-( My concept store said thete will be two tone Essence launched this year, but that’s just a rumour I think.

I’m hoping my local Sabo retailer will be stocking Karma, as it will be great to see it in person, and I don’t want to order sight unseen online.

    /hugs

    • endangeredtrolls

I’ve been waiting for you to spot this as I *knew* you’d love it. Isn’t it just divine?!

I also think they’re larger than Essence but I daren’t say much in case I’m proven absolutely wrong. I’m coveting sooo many of these. There are so many options for some really lovely gothic bracelets I think and ohhh the ring.. THE RING. I really need that ring in my life <3 And don’t be silly, you are not too old!

Essence might yet “grow into itself” with a bit more love and expansion from Pandora – which it will undoubtedly receive in the future but as you said, it’s really expensive to replicate those stacked campaign images and that’s where I think it shines and appeals to me :(

To the best of my knowledge, Karma Beads will roll out to all Sabo stockists over the next couple of weeks. Joshua James are certainly expecting them ;)

      /hugs

  11. Debbie

    Hi sweetie,

It’s gorgeous and definitely my thing ;-)

Good to hear it’s rolling out to all retailers, JJ is too far for me to visit in person, as I want to try the bracelet on. i like my bracelets loose so tend to buy larger than recommended for my wrist size. Luckily Fenwicks stocks it and they have a big TS display.

I like variety so I will definitely be indulging, although probably sadly to the detriment of Trollbeads :-( I think I’d rather have another different looking bracelet than the new TB collection. Always comes down to money or lack of it, and because I’m spending less on charms I’m enjoying delving into my bead boxes and playing with what I have. In hindsight I bought too much last year to really enjoy it, as every month more new goodies arrived and last months’ beads often got put away too quickly :-(

    /hugs

    • endangeredtrolls

I fall into the “too much too fast” trap. I have so much arrive as samples (not meant to sound gloating but you know..) and sometimes I like to just pause, sit back and actually LOOK at what is here. I get so caught up in photographing, editing, writing and then rinse repeat that sometimes I feel I lack the time to just appreciate what I have. Beads can get brushed aside because “oh look NEW SHINY”.

With marketing and admittedly blogs like mine too, I think it’s easy to get a little depressed because you can’t buy x or y new bead when actually jewellery is so beautiful and timeless and it’s just not necessary. I’ve made a new years resolution to make sure I do more inspiration articles and revisit older products so it’s not a stream of previews and “look NEW!” but for all of us to appreciate what we have.

The Trollbeads Spring release just arrived with me today and so far all I’ve done is photograph. Tonight I’m mass editing. Tomorrow I’m writing… Then I have to take more detailed images for reviews and it’s so rushed!

I have to say, I think these new Karma Beads will look FAB with our X bracelets – very raw and edgy! I’m hoping to get a sample of one of these but we’ll see.

It looks like Alex & Ani have finally arrived in the UK too which is bad bad news for me. I’ve loved them for so long but never been able to justify the import costs. They are definitely my kind of thing when stacked together. No more reason to ignore the brand when there are no import costs.

Must focus on the fact I have new appliances to pay for!

      xxx

  12. Jess

Hi Victoria, I am in LOVE! These are amazing and I totally agree with you that this is what Essence should have been. I am not a fan of Sabo’s other charms as I am not a traditional charm bracelet kind of a girl. I have never shopped for Thomas Sabo before, is it available in the U.S.? Not sure if I missed that part somewhere. Thank you kindly, Jess

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi Jess,

Thomas Sabo are more of a European brand and their online store doesn’t cover the USA. You’d need to order from Europe but they haven’t launched in stores here yet – just in their official store :)

      Kind Regards
      Victoria

      • Megan

That stinks! I was really intrigued by the carved beads. Oh, well!

  13. Janey

    Hi Victoria

    Oh chuffing heck!

These are just amazing and l want them – not all of them but there are some that l just have to have! Simples!

They look as if they would fit the new RBF snake bracelet which appears to be very similar to this one by TS.

    Janey
    oxoxoxo

    • endangeredtrolls

      Aren’t they divine? ;)

I’m still struggling to work out the size of the beads as to how they’d look on other branded chains. You’re right about the similarity in the new Redbalifrog bracelet and this though – well spotted!

      /hugs

  14. Janey

    Yay!!

Just discovered l have an LD for these in my town! l e mailed them and they are getting stocks around mid Feb with prices for charms from around £16.95 which is excellent even if they are quite small. :)

l adore the bracelet and the karma bead lock as well so for the first time lll be able to see the goods in person and try them to see if they
fit other brand bracelets etc. :)

l cant wait! Roll on mid February…

Hope all okay with you Victoria – we seem to be getting nothing but rain at the moment but no doubt ice and snow will be on their way
    soon – eugh! :(

    Janey
    oxoxoxo

    • endangeredtrolls

Joshua James have now received theirs for anyone looking to order online ;)

I’ve heard it’s very wet in the UK again. Actually I think if I had to describe this winter it would be wet and stormy :( I think our cold spell ends next week *crosses fingers*

Do you have any idea what bead you’ll start with Janey? I’m REALLY torn. I like the Brit Bead but I don’t think it matches with many of the others and it would sure be expensive to fill a bracelet with those (it’s around £120 and the most expensive.)

      /hugs

  15. Jaine

Just bought a Karma bracelet, safety chain, 2 stoppers and one bead. I’ve seen them in real life and love them all apart from the rose quartz which is more off white than like the pink in the photos. Anyone know if troll beads and essence beads fit onto the Karma bracelet?

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi Jaine,

I know that Karma beads don’t fit the Trollbeads bracelet due to their tiny cores so I suspect Trollbeads would fit the Karma bracelet but I don’t think they’d match very well. Not sure on the Essence charms I’m afraid :(

      Kind Regards
      Victoria
