Story by Kranz and Ziegler Snakeskin Bracelet Review

Today’s jewellery blog article offers an in depth review of a new red snakeskin bracelet from Story by Kranz and Ziegler.

Story by Kranz and Ziegler have featured on Endangered Trolls before. I initially encountered the range late last year while shopping for Trollbeads. Much like Rebeligion, at the centre of the Story composable concept is a selection of leather bracelets. They then offer a wide range of charms with inspiration drawn from all walks of life.

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be offered a complimentary Story bracelet courtesy of Kranz and Ziegler. Ever a fashion addict, I’m enthusiastically embracing the fall’s hottest trend of animal prints. In an attempt to secure the ultimate accessory for this prevalent trend, I chose one of Story’s snake skin bracelets in a vivid red colour. Red is arguably the most vogue colour option for the season and indeed, I adored the bracelet that ultimately arrived so much that I had to indulge in a pair of matching jeans.

In order to keep this article of reasonable length, I’ve decided to split it into two parts. Part one (this article) will focus primarily on the bracelet itself. Part two will take a closer look at some of the charms offered by this edgy Danish brand.

Story Bracelets – The Lock

From my first encounter with Story late last year, through my first bracelets almost daily wear and continuing with the arrival of this beautiful on trend complimentary gift, I’ve always been amazed by Story’s locking system. I’m aware this sounds a terribly mundane and dull aspect to be impressed by but bear with me if you will. I have always found Trollbeads bracelets to be incredibly fiddly to fasten on my own. After years of practice, I can of course do so but it’s often at the expense of chipping my nails; something which infuriates me to no end. Pandora bracelets while, more straight forward in their concept, still cause the same destruction of a new manicure. Obviously the lock you use and how snug you like to wear a bracelet are all factors that dictate the ease with which a chain can be fastened. Even traditional lobster clasps found on many standard bracelets can be a real turmoil to secure.

Story clearly acknowledged the difficulty in fastening many bracelets and created a clean and contemporary locking system with a user friendly concept at it’s core. They have implemented the use of hidden magnets to aid the wearer in securing the bracelet. It’s an incredibly simple concept yet it’s also a genius idea. When placed close together the two ends snap closed in a neat and ultra secure fashion.

If you’re looking for a bracelet that’s comfortable to wear and extremely quick to put on; Story are definitely worth a look. It’s for this reason that my original black bracelet has become a real “go to” piece for me. If I’m in a rush and want a casual yet eye catching piece, I always find myself reaching for this.

Story Bracelets – Non-Stretch Core

An issue with both Trollbeads and Pandora leather bracelets is the fact they’re prone to stretching; at least if you wear them with charms or beads. Trollbeads leather do feature multiple pre-punched holes in the leather allowing you to tighten the bracelet over time but it’s now been my experience that they stretch to the extent of ultimately running out of holes. Fortunately they aren’t super expensive so I know myself and many collectors simply replace them but never the less, it’s a real annoyance.

Story bracelets (along with Rebeligion it should be mentioned) do not suffer this problem. I’ve speculated before that perhaps these bracelets both feature some kind of non-stretch core in their centre. This concept is seen frequently in equestrian products where stretching of leather has always been a problem. In the latter field, brands began inserting nylon cores into the centre of the leather as this prevent the leather from stretching. Obviously, short of dissecting a bracelet, I can only make guesses at their construction (and I refuse to hack open my bracelets!)

Regardless of the inner design, my Story original Story bracelet has not stretched despite a year of regular wear. Not only does this ensure it still offers a snug fit but also the charms still sit firmly in place.

Story Bracelets – No Wandering Charms

The latter point brings me onto yet another aspect I adore about this brand; their charms do not move. Both Trollbeads and Pandora wearers will be familiar with this issue. While some beads or charms do fit snugly on leather bracelets, it’s not the case with all. In addition, the more the leather stretches, the thinner it becomes and the less chance of keeping charms or beads in place.

Stock images of beautiful leather bracelets frequently appear with charms and beads spaced out in an aesthetically pleasing manner. The reality is that they usually wiggle their way to the ends of the bracelet and end up in a heap by the lock.

Story’s charms sit firm, allowing you to space them out however you want in safe knowledge that they will remain there. For reference, Story charms attach by sliding onto the bracelet as opposed to clipping around it. I’ll admit that I’ve never been an enormous fan of clips due to their potential for getting lost. (I’ve heard of so many Pandora wearers losing their clips.)

Story Bracelets – Snakeskin Versus Leather

The snakeskin bracelets are a relative newcomer to Story’s range, having only launched last autumn. Prior to this, the leather bracelets made the staple of their collection. Their bracelets are available in a wide range of colours and styles. While I favour the chunky bracelets, thinner stranded versions are also available, as is a small selection of braided leather.

My original bracelet is their standard black leather and is so comfortable to wear due to it’s buttery soft texture. It’s worth mentioning that the snakeskin bracelets are a little stiffer but this doesn’t affect their comfort levels when worn and due to the magnetic lock, nor does it make them any more difficult to secure.

Story Bracelets by Kranz and Ziegler – The Conclusion

While Story are quite prevalent brand here in Denmark, their expansion to other markets has been a little slower. Equally while our television screens are graced by frequent advertising campaigns, other markets have not benefited from this. The result being they’re still a newcomer to the international market and you’d be more than forgiven for never having encountered the brand.

They are, however, a super wearable and casual option to a silver charm bracelet. In addition, they compliment a more traditional silver bracelet superbly, offering a slightly more edgy touch via the use of heavy strands of leather.

The majority of the Story bracelets are designed to wrap around the wrist three times offering a really eye catching piece of jewellery. Their range of charms isn’t as extensive as the likes of Trollbeads or Pandora but the range is still in it’s relative infancy. The charms they do offer however, boast varied designs ensuring there is something for everyone from more classical pieces to bang on trend options. With two releases per year, they’re also continually adding to their range.

What follows are some stock collection pictures to whet your appetites a little further in regards to creations possible.

    Hi Cheryl 🙂

Steffans will ship globally and carry a large range of Story products.

There is one place in the US that you can buy (that I’m aware of) but I’m not sure how “active” they are and this is the primary reason I didn’t mention them in the article.

Their bracelet range seems quite limited and the newer bracelets aren’t there… The link is:-

But please be aware I know *nothing* of them and get slightly uncomfortable about recommending sites I know little of 🙁

The products themselves are stunning though!

    Kind Regards

  5. Charms Addict

I’m dying to get a Story bracelet! My local store carries them, but they’ve been backordered for months :'(. I’m almost tempted to buy them online, but since I’m not familiar with the sizing, I want to try it on first.

    • endangeredtrolls

      They’re really lovely.

I’m lucky because the brand is quite well known here. We have a lot of advertising campaigns for them and as they always sponsor the Danish Next Top Model series, there are frequently offers on starter bracelets.

I think they’re also a brand that look better “in the flesh” than on pictures. Their website isn’t great (sorry K&Z!) and doesn’t do justice to the products but in the stores they really stand out.

Their fall 2012 collection is due to arrive in the next couple of weeks though I’ve seen no images yet. It’s going to be interesting to see what they do this time around 🙂

      • Charms Addict

I think I’m about out of patience with my store! Might have to order this one soon ^^. Have to decide between the rhodium finish or the polished silver…choices choices…

  6. Kim

Thanks for the article, I really appreciated it! I have a Pandora bracelet and charms that I received as a gift and over the years. Would love a story bracelet, as it is a little more edgy and I think I would get more wear out of it. Do you know if the Pandora charms can be slid ONTO the story bracelets? Thank you!

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi Kim,

No Pandora charms do not fit the Story bracelets. Story bracelets are really quite thick and the Pandora cores would never fit.

      Kind Regards
      Victoria
