Story by Kranz and Ziegler Review

While Endangered Trolls began life as a dedicated Trollbeads blog, it soon morphed into much more and now many brands are represented. Danish brand Kranz and Ziegler offer their own contemporary take on the charm bracelet theme with their own modular collection; Story bracelets.

Last week I published a review of Story’s red snakeskin bracelet, an item I was fortunate enough to be gifted by Kranz and Ziegler. The bracelet was perfect for my requirements; on trend for fall in terms of it’s colour and design and perfectly “me” in regards to it’s edgy and more gothic feeling charms.

Rather than publish one enormous article dedicated to this bracelet, I opted to split it into smaller offerings. While the first article focused on the actual bracelet, this will take a more in depth look at the charms.

Story Bracelet by Kranz and Ziegler – Pavé for Fall 2012

Pavé jewellery designs have littered collections for fall 2012 and a closer look at the runway fashions helps to confirm why. Fashion for autumn has taken a darker and more sinister twist with gothic and dark romance themes being prevalent. These seem sumptuous fabrics and opulent colours at the forefront of contemporary design. It’s little wonder then, that pavé jewellery is the perfect accompaniment. It’s dramatic, moody and gothic in it’s very nature. Yet it’s touch of sparkle adds that hint of romantic femininity.

Pandora were the first to unveil a glittering fall collection boasting pavé charms. For fall 2012, Thomas Sabo’s Glam and Soul Dance has been equally spectacular with cubic zirconia adorning everything from their Rebel at Heart skull focused pieces to their beloved seasonal pendants.

It’s certainly a trend I can support, I adore dramatic design and sparkle is just perfect for the upcoming party season. When I was asked to give a rough overview of the charms I’d like to feature on the Story bracelet, pavé designs were specifically mentioned.

The first of the charms was the stunning Story pavé heart. This open style charm features a row of black cubic zirconia that slides snugly over the bracelet. Due to it’s open style design, the contrast of the bracelet underneath can then peep through. Depending upon the colour or material of the underlying bracelet, this can be to dramatic or more muted effect. In the case of my bracelet, the clash of reds and black is a classic and high impact contrast.

Much like many other modular brands, Story boast a range of charms designed to sit in different fashions upon the bracelet. This helps to create a more varied overall aesthetic. The second pavé charm was the beautiful silver Story star; a dangle style charm. This charm is more substantial in it’s sizing than the heart, primarily due to it’s solid design. Once again it features an array of glittering black cubic zirconia that offer a beautiful contrast with the high shine silver. It’s the absolute perfect mix of rock ‘n roll edginess with high glam femininity.

Story Bracelet by Kranz and Ziegler – The Gothic Chic

I adore gothic design and it’s at the core of my fashion preferences. With this, it’s little wonder that I was keen to point out my love of darker design to Kranz and Ziegler. Two charms arrived with the bracelet that perfectly reflected this part of my style.

The Story blackened skull charm is simple yet eye catching. It’s eyes feature two black zirconia offering depth to the skull and the slightest hint of sparkle.

The rear of the skull features a filigree design allowing the colour of the bracelet to peep through once more.

The second charm was a Kranz and Ziegler design I’ve long admired; the Story snake head charm.

The heavily textured snake head charm offers a beautiful on trend contrast between the high shine scales and the oxidised back ground. The eyes are bejewelled with red cubic zirconia and it’s posed tongue boasts the perfect finishing and life like touch.

Story Bracelet by Kranz and Ziegler – Dark Romance at it’s Finest

The prevalent dark romance trend intertwines femininity with darker gothic inspirations. It’s a beautiful and perfect trend for fall when everything tends to turn to the more dramatic.

The final charm that features on this stunning and vogue bracelet is the Story blackened hearts ring charm.

This is subtle in it’s design, acting similarly to a spacer. It is a filigree charm featuring a contemporary entwined heart pattern. It’s open work styling allows the bracelet’s colour to peep through and in the case of the red snakeskin, this creates a high impact contrast.

I absolutely adore this high impact bracelet. The snakeskin is bang on trend for fall 2012 and spicy reds are the vogue colours to be seen in. A great advantage to Story being that the bracelets look equally spectacular worn with many charms or just the one. This makes them easy to collect at a pace to suit all budgets.

Leather offers a fashion, comfortable and casual alternative to silver and when it comes to accessorising with high voltage colour, they can’t be beaten.

If you haven’t yet read my review of the actual bracelet system, I’d urge you to do so. Story are, by far, the most user friendly bracelet I’ve yet to experience. A magnetic locking system ensures these are super easy to secure without the risk of chipped nails or manicures. Clicking on the link below will open my initial review in a new window:-

Story have yet to debut their fall 2012 collection as their releases do run slightly later than most other brands. I’m eagerly awaiting their autumn release and as soon as images become available, I’ll offer a preview here.

Story Bracelet by Kranz and Ziegler – What’s Next?

As most readers will know, the addictive nature of modular jewellery derives from adding to your bracelet and Story is no exception. As such, I’ve found myself already planning my next additions.

I’m keen to continue a really strong aesthetic with this bracelet as it’s spicy red shade and opulent snake skin surface already make it an extremely eye catching piece. With the pavé trend at it’s height and the party season creeping closer, such further charms will make perfect additions to what has fast become a favourite go to bracelet.

My favourite of the remaining collection charms is the Story pavé heart.

This is a large focal charm perfectly combining gothic glamour with a feminine edge.

The second charm is the Story black pavé drop charm. Again this is a large charm and will perfectly compliment the existing darkened pavé designs.

Finally a perfect addition for the festive season comes by way of the Story pavé stars. Obviously not an overtly festive design but the beautiful sparkling stars create a more subtle feeling Christmas addition.

Story Bracelet by Kranz and Ziegler – The Conclusion

After first purchasing a black Story bracelet last year that quickly became my “go to” for casual wear, I’ve adored this brand. While undoubtedly more popular on their home territory of Denmark where we’re frequently graced by advertising campaigns, Story are worth serious consideration by any modular jewellery fan.

Leather is often more comfortable to wear than silver and provides a more casual aesthetic. With a vast array of colours and materials available, such bracelets can also offer a more fashion forward take on the charm bracelet concept.

Story has an amazing locking system which is pure genius on their side. While the concept of using a magnetic to aid securing a bracelet is incredibly simple, the difference it makes to the ease of which it can be secured is enormous. Furthermore it creates a very neat and tidy looking closure.

I ended the original bracelet review with some eye candy example bracelets. As such, it seems fitting to repeat the process here.
