Redbalifrog Sun & Moon Kiss Inspiration

This Redbalifrog blog brings a little bangle inspiration starring the new Redbalifrog Sun & Moon Kiss, part of the Celestial Bodies collection.

Last week saw the global launch of the Redbalifrog Celestial Bodies collection. It’s a large release by Redbalifrog standards, featuring ten new decorative pieces. Despite it being mid-winter in the southern hemisphere, it feel an apt release for the high summer season when beautiful clear night skies are plentiful. Celestial Bodies is a beautiful melange of different aspects of the night sky. There are the more romantic designs such as the Sun & Moon Kiss or the Moon Face Locks. There’s a certain cozy feeling of nostalgia derived from the Rocket Ship, there’s a little bit of horror by way of the Alien Skull and there’s a simple ode to the steps we’ve taken with Star Sputnik. It’s a very clever medley of designs and all show Amanda’s usual attention to detail.

Redbalifrog Sun & Moon Kiss

It’s difficult for me to choose a favourite from this release. I adore night sky bracelets but Sun & Moon Kiss is absolutely a contender. The bead is identical on both the front and back. The edges are more decorative on the half where the sun sits, with a texture representing sun beams. It’s a reasonably large and heavy piece, retailing at $44.

One of the reasons I’m not a huge fan of the summer season in Denmark are the infamous light nights where the country just doesn’t see true darkness and the veil between the day and night is very thin. I originally showed a version of this bangle on launch day where it used the Trollbeads Golden Rutilated Quartz. I’ve switched it a little for this editorial and instead it mixes the limited edition Trollbeads Wings of Amber (which I’m completely obsessed with,) with the retired Blue Chalcedonies. The colour combination is meant to capture the perfect light of dusk and I’ve always felt the chalcedony brings a real ethereal quality to anything.

Aside from the Sun & Moon Kiss, I’ve used the new Redbalifrog Empty Spacers and again I need to stress that these are not stoppers. They are obviously very simple and I was quite sceptical about them when I first saw the preview. Actually I’m finding them very useful. Of course there’s the argument that perhaps if you’re using plain spacers to punctuate beads, opting for the Trollbeads versions that do act as stoppers results in more versatility. On the other hand I don’t have any gold spacers and brass is a far cheaper option.

Redbalifrog Sun & Moon Kiss Summary

For those who love night sky themed bracelets (and this is a popular theme,) this is an essential bead. There’s no flipping or peculiar balance and though one edge is textured, the silver is all rounded so it’s neither sharp on the skin nor does it snag on clothes.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Redbalifrog Sun & Moon Kiss? Have you indulged in any of this new release? Hit the comments and let me know!

It’s a really beautiful bead. I actually like it just on a bangle which also makes it easy to wear in the heat 🙂

I’m a huge fan of Redbalifrog and I was so excited to see this release. I’ve been collecting bone carvings from Bali for decades, and the Sun & Moon Kiss is such a classic motif from Balinese art and design. It was immediately one of my favorites from this collection- knowing the story behind Redbalifrog and the silversmith who brings these gorgeous beads to life. Balinese craftsman have been carving tiny, detailed sun and moon face cabochons out of cow bone for ages- and it’s a joy to see the motif in a silver bead! You can see an example of the Balinese bone carving in the new Redbalifrog moon face lock! Exquisite! (Can you tell I’m excited!?)

this is a very feminine – male bead, like yin-yang differently portrayed, love it

I’d not really thought of it that way but yes. The sun-moon symbol together does represent unity (marriage) too so that makes sense.

Mostly I’m just glad you like the bead 😀
