Redbalifrog Ombak the Whale Review

This Redbalifrog blog brings a dedicated review of the newly debuted Redbalifrog Ombak the Whale, part of the Big Blue collection.

Yesterday saw the launch of the Redbalifrog Big Blue collection and included was Ombak the Whale. When Big Blue was first announced, a number of readers commented that they were hoping for a sea mammal so I suspect Ombak will prove one of the favourites.

Ombak retails at just $37 and is a semi dangle charm. The curvature of his tail is where the bracelet lays but his size doesn’t make him feel like a normal dangle.

Ombak the Whale is 1.5 cms in length and he’s a chunky bead. He’s nicely detailed as one would expect from Redbalifrog, with even the blowhole accounted for.

This weekend at Great Lakes Boutique we’re listing ocean and beach themed beads that complement the Redbalifrog Big Blue collection. With a selection of Trollbeads Cat’s Eye Quartz and Moon Ocean at my disposal, I created this bracelet for Ombak. It’s completely different to anything I’ve really done before and I love it! I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the Cat’s Eyes. Some of them are very pale and yet on occasion you find the really dark examples that are just spectacular.

Redbalifrog Ombak the Whale Ordering Details

For those of you keen to order either Ombak the Whale or any of the Big Blue collection, you can do so via the link below. I’ve also grouped together most of their bead and sea themed beads into one category in case you’re looking for the older designs.

The Moon Ocean used on this bracelet are live here and I’m listing the last few Cat’s Eye Quartz shortly after the first batch sold out in record time.

Redbalifrog Ombak the Whale Summary

Readers have already been drawing similarities between Ombak the Whale and the ACA Kreations Moby. Ombak is far smaller and arguably more suited to a bracelet. Moby is more pendant sized really. The execution of the designs is indeed similar but their use would be quite different for most people.

I love the Big Blue collection! And the two colors you picked for the glass are perfect for the bracelet. The blue is the color of the sea and the yellow/tan reminds me of sand. The colors compliment the silver beads perfectly. Truly a beautiful bracelet arrangement!

Thank you so much 😀 I’ve tried to approach the theme from a more organic viewpoint this time as my past beach bracelets have been very summery and bright.

I loved this combination 😀 I wish I could have kept it 😀

Love the whale and sea turtle and the whole big blue release! I’m rethinking my entire Spring bead budget as a result. Thanks to Red Bali Frog for coming out with such amazing silvers, bracelet, and pearl!

The best made plans and all that 😉 It’s always the same way 😀

OMG!!! I love this bracelet. The colors and textures of the glass and stone work so well together and the ocean themed silvers. Brilliant! Amanda did an amazing job with Ombak – so much personality – and the hatching baby turtle is adorable!!
(As a bonus nothing about this bracelet makes me think of the Golden Girls…a hazard for me with beachy themes.)

And now I’m wishing that I could have gotten online earlier today…off to see what’s left at GLB. Hopefully I can at least get the RBF silvers but I’d really like to get some of the Moon Ocean glass too.

I’m so pleased you managed to get some 😀 The Cat’s Eye Quartz particularly went so so fast 😀 They were the nicest batch we’d had though as the last lot had been so pale. Now to try and hunt down some more of those 😉

Ombak is super cute. I think he’ll end up being the most popular piece from this collection 😀

Oh,my Gosh! This mix is stunning, Victoria. I really love Ombak with the whole ocean themed beads. As well, the shell bead is something to round out my beach bracelet. Thanks for the inspiration! The Blue collection is gorgeous overall, and wish I could buy all of them.

So pleased you like it! I just published the article for the Shelly Mix so hopefully that might help you too 😀

Love the beach theme that Redbalifrog continues to share with us! I particularly enjoy that they have stretched the mermaid theme in a new direction and replaced the oh-so popular whale tail pendant with a pretty mermaid’s tail. Congratulations to Amanda and the others at Redbalifrog on a great new collection!

Victoria, I must echo the same as others have, I really like your introduction of using Trollbeads’ cat’s eye stone to the sandy beach theme! 😎 🏝

I think we’ve all kind of been stuck in the mindset that the Cat’s Eye Quartz is “an autumn stone.” It sold like crazy for us in the fall and then… nothing. It was actually the beautiful batch that we got that really gave inspiration to this. They were SO lovely and so well coloured but I couldn’t help but wonder if it was just the wrong season for them. I loved the contrast between the stone and then the very shiny glass.

It seems a lot of people are loving that Mermaid Tail Pendant though 😀
