Redbalifrog Big Blue Debuts

This Redbalifrog blog celebrates the launch of the new Redbalifrog Big Blue collection with a complete preview.

Today sees the launch of the new Redbalifrog Big Blue collection and the first release from the brand for 2018. Though there are never advanced previews for Redbalifrog, the name and the artwork clearly betrayed the theme. It proved instantly popular with collectors, many of whom have been enjoying Amanda’s oceanic designs for years. The release consists of just six new pieces but actually there is such a plethora of existing beads that work beautifully with Big Blue that finding enough space on a bracelet is likely to prove a problem.

The collection is now available globally and consists of one pendant, one bracelet and four decorative beads.

Of the four beads the new Redbalifrog Ombak the Whale is one of my favourites. Indeed when the release was first announced, fans were very hpoeful of there being sea mammal designs. Meet Ombak. The curvature of the tail creates the core for this bead so do be aware it would be described as a semi dangle piece. It’s retailing at $37.

Whales are the largest and most impressive creatures on our planet. Some cultures believe that the Whale is a source of wisdom and divinity. Coastal Australian Aboriginal tribes perceive the whale as an ancestor whom they love and one who helped to shape the land and seas.

Another popular design is sure to be the new Redbalifrog Sea Turtle Hatchling. This little guy is super cute. While most of the bead is actually smooth silver representing the egg, the detailing that shows through for the turtle is amazing. It’s retailing at $37

Once baby turtles hatch, they find their way to the ocean. Many years later they will return to lay their eggs on the same beach to repeat the circle of life. Turtles have an important role in ancient mythology worldwide. They are often connected with creation myths regarding the origin of the Earth.

Next comes the Redbalifrog Shelly Mix. There’s a plethora of sea shell inspired beads out there and yet I’ve always felt Amanda has executed them incredibly well. Perhaps it’s that hers tend to be larger or perhaps it’s the realistic detailing. Regardless the Shelly Mix is essentially a ring of sea shells and it’s very neat. It’s retailing at $37

Sea shells are one of nature’s most grand designs. They have been used throughout history in many cultures around the world for different purposes such as currency, tools, musical instruments and personal adornment.

The final bead is the lovely Redbalifrog White Sea Pearl. This is larger than the Trollbeads pearls and the slightly larger silver core actually looks beautiful against the white. It’s 1.2 cms by 1 cm so it’s quite a chunky piece. Those of you who love pearls are going to really appreciate this piece. I will mention that it uses end caps rather than a complete core. Though they do extend well into the centre of the bead. It’s retailing at $46

The Pearl shape strongly evokes The Moon. Not surprisingly, many cultures have made lunar associations with Pearls. These connections are further reinforced with The Moon’s symbolic association with the watery domain where Pearls are born. In Western cultures, the pearl has astrological associations with the planet Venus. Like Pearls, the Goddess of Love came
from the sea.

The Redbalifrog Mermaid Tail Pendant is sure to prove popular but do be aware it is a pendant. It’s far too large to wear on your wrist. It has a length of 4.5cms and do note that the front is decorated with two crystals and a sea pearl which add just a touch of shimmer and sparkle. It’s retailing at $98

Since our bodies are made primarily of water, it’s no wonder many of us have the desire to jump ship and swim fearlessly through the vast Oceans. Mermaids can signify this freedom of life and help us pay tribute to our primordial home.

The final piece is the new Redbalifrog Pearl and Starfish Bracelet. It uses a mix of black and white pearls with a contrasting turquoise focal. The beads are mounted on an elastic cord so it’s a one size fits all stackable bracelet. It’s retailing at $76

Beautiful White and Black Sea Pearls, Turquoise and Silver Starfish bracelet. A beautiful addition to be worn with and compliment your Ocean inspired themed bracelets.

Redbalifrog Big Blue Ordering Details

For those of you keen to indulge, the Redbalifrog Big Blue collection is now live at Great Lakes Boutique and global shipping is free. In celebration of the release, we’re hosting a beach inspired mini event this weekend. While the new silver pieces are beautiful, we’ll be sharing with you lots of inspiration on using both these and older Redbalifrog oceanic designs plus listing a lot of glass and gemstones that we think will perfectly complement the release for you.

Redbalifrog Big Blue Summary

That concludes the preview of the Redbalifrog Big Blue collection and it is lovely. Beach designs are always popular with collectors for the summer season and this extends a theme already well represented within the Redbalifrog range. This is great as it allows fans to add new pieces to their bracelet. As is always the case with Amanda’s work, the silvers are a good size and weight and nothing feels too small. The details are realistic and the collection feels cohesive and well thought out.

For those of you who like my images, as part of the Great Lakes Boutique at the Sea event mentioned above, I’ll be pushing out editorials all weekend for those of you looking for ideas. Please do follow me on social media at the Endangered Trolls Facebook and Instagram and the Great Lakes Boutique Facebook and Instagram accounts.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the new Redbalifrog Big Blue collection? What are the highlights for you and will you be ordering? Hit the comments and let me know!

OMG….I’m in love with every single piece. I don’t usually go for big pieces but that mermaids tail is fantastic. I will be getting every one of these. Thank goodness they are not limited editions. And the whale is my favorite. I wasn’t able to get the whale from ACA since the exchange rate is nuts for me. And I always love Amanda’s pricing.

And Moby was too big. Though I never criticize Alex’s work, it was too big and hung down too far. Maybe this one is a better size for me.

      • endangeredtrolls

        It’s a lot smaller than Moby 🙂

  2. Kasia

I love the whale and the pearl. Looking forward to your editorials 😀

    • endangeredtrolls

      They’ll begin tomorrow! 😀

  3. Paula, Gravesend

Love them! Redbalifrog pieces are always a decent weight and good value for money compared to some other brands. More to go on my wish list.

    • endangeredtrolls

Is an ever increasing wishlist a good thing or a bad thing? 😉

  4. Joan

I am such a fan of RBF–Amanda never disappoints in either the beautiful detail, the weight, or the pricing on her pieces. These are just stunning, and I am really looking forward to getting them in my hot little hands!

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m so pleased you like them! 😀 It’s a really nice release in person 😀 Everything you’d expect from Redbalifrog is there 😀

  5. Faye S.

Wow, RBF never disappoints! The whale is a must-have for me, then the baby sea turtle and the bracelet. LOVE it!

    • endangeredtrolls

They’re my two favourites 😉 The whale and the turtle hatchling that is 😀

  6. Pippa

I love all three of the new silver beads in this collection!!! All must haves – probably two of the shells so I can use with a focal on a bangle, perhaps with a lovely blue or green gemstone…

Amanda did a great job. When I first glanced through, I immediately loved the little turtle hatching. I wasn’t sure about the others – I was thinking I already have a whale (Moby) but then I saw the additional pics – Ombak is just adorable, so much personality in such a simple bead – amazing!!! And I really am impressed by Shelly Mix – you can really see the individual shells and there is a nice variety and it has good lines and isn’t too busy.

    • endangeredtrolls

I know people will draw comparisons between Moby and Ombak but they are quite distinct in my opinion. Ombak is quite a lot smaller and in a way that brings versatility. Moby is a pretty hefty piece. I think the two have their own uses, even if the theme and execution are similar. (If that makes sense.)

  7. Angel Soto

I am always grateful that Redbali keeps the pricing very reasonable because the pieces are absolutely beautiful.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeps! Amanda has always tried to keep her pricing as low as she can. It’s why we see fewer Redbalifrog promotions but I think on balance people prefer it this way 🙂

  8. Lorie

I love all of it! It’s all gorgeous. The pendant is really stunning. I’d love to see your ideas on how to wear it. I feel a little lost with pendants. I really appreciate her prices too.

    • endangeredtrolls

Well it’s not cored for a fantasy necklace or anything so it’s a straight forward pendant. I do think it’s far too large for the wrist though.

  9. Lisa G

I would definitely buy the 3 silver beads. They are beautiful!! More for bead bash….

    • endangeredtrolls

But it’s not TOO far away now 😀

  10. Judy

This is such a beautiful release! The beads are on my wish list, but I had to immediately order the Mermaid Tail Pendant. It’s magical and fabulous!

I’d love to see how you style it Victoria. Hint-hint.

Amanda’s designs never fail to thrill me. When I read that she was doing an ocean-themed release I thought, with a sense of disappointment, oh I already have a Redbalifrog sea-themed bracelet. But when I saw her new designs I thought oh but I must have these too!

  11. PernicketyPony

That whale is simply irresistible! I didn’t think I’d buy anything from this release, but I NEED him!

  12. Kate

I love the mermaid fin, especially because I think the major brands are lacking a statement mermaid piece! That being said I really wish there was a option without the pearl and stone. I’m into simpler designs and this jazzes it up a bit too much for me… Either way, I’m still really happy to see some mermaid love. I’m still wishing trollbeads would give us a big statement mermaid!
Omback is amazing. I have been coveting Moby for a long time (but the price point is way too high for me) and this is a very similar design… Do you think Omback is big enough to be worn as a solo pendant?
