Ohm Beads Year of the Dog Review

This Ohm Beads blog brings a dedicated review of the newly released Ohm Beads Year of the Dog, Bead of the Month for January 2018.

The Ohm Beads Year of Dog made it’s global debut today as the Bead of the Month for January. It’s proven pretty popular in pre-orders and despite one thousand two hundred and thirty four (1234) being produced, nearly all of my retail partners exhausted their stock before release. We’ve just managed to get a few more for Great Lakes Boutique and Ohm Beads USA do always try and hold some back for launch day and right now they still have some on their website.

I was so excited that my own bead arrived today so I decided to take some time out and photograph it immediately.

It’s not a huge charm but it is very detailed. It’s a dog in a monk’s robe complete with miniature meditation beads around his wrists. Incidentally the bead comes complete with a set of meditation beads as pictured.

From the first preview of this bead I wanted to team it with the likes of the Ohm Beads Weeping Warrior and Mama Terra. I’ve opted for a real mix of glass here, ranging from the long retired and utterly amazing Rawr series, through to the more vibrant shades of Sol and Green Crack. Ironically considering I’m not a green person, I think Green Crack might be one of my favourite Ohm glass to date. It uses colours I’d not normally use together but I actually really like the end result.

Ohm Beads Year of the Dog Summary

Year of the Dog was part of the first release from Ohm Beads for 2018 but we do have a second release later in January which includes Teabag! My Teabag sample arrived today but right now I’m refusing to open it as the charm is literally inside a teabag and I’m too busy cooing over that to consider tearing it open.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Ohm Beads Year of the Dog and did you pre-order? Are you one of the lucky few to already have yours in hand and what do you think? Hit the comments and let me know!

I really like this bead. It’s great to see him in action and get a full review πŸ™‚
His size looks perfect to me and works well with Weeping Warrior and Mama Terra.
Nice mix of glass and even a wood – the yellow and green make it feel happy IMO. I’m a big fan of Green Crack too and love seeing it with different glass combinations.
    Thanks! πŸ™‚

I love Green Crack! I wish I’d gotten more when it was actually available πŸ˜€ I always end up doing this with Ohm.. kicking myself later that I don’t get glass in pairs πŸ˜›

Um…I’m a bit of a Green Crack addict.

    Victoria,
I like your bracelet, and the featured charm as I have all the charms in the Zodiac series and though it’s not a complete set of twelve, I would really like to see one featuring a single bracelet to see what colors, charms you would use with the Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster and Dog.
Good thing I like this because as of now it is the only OHM charm I will be buying this year and only because I hate having incomplete sets. I was already having issues with OHM and what I felt are , silly wasteful things that I did not want, and packaging that accompanied their beads but Eddi could always sell me on a Cham to go with my collection. In December when OHM pulled the line from Artesian Beads for me it was a fitting sign that I no longer needed their product.
Somehow brands never seem to understand the survival of their lines depending on their Support Team. Writers like Victoria who inform, show how to use , review, coordinate product and Retailers who reinforced ,present, sell are most important. Any upheaval is annoying screw them over, short them on product or whatever and loyal customers will walk. A few years back we saw the upheaval with Pandora and then Trollbeads as we travel a lot I actually know my Retailers and each time a Retailer was affected my purchased decreased dramatically and rather than buy whole collections I cherry picked or passed on buying anything. It is not a matter of what a Brand thinks or if they like the retailer or not it is up to them to work with who they signed to sell their product.
Have been following Victoria and Endangered Troll since 2012 if she features an old bead or a new one it’s her that I will ask for clarification then to my Retailer that I call to find it ,if I need a quick gift to be sent or when Hubby , Children or Friends want to get me a gift, if something breaks or doesn’t perform as presented or how the new bead X will go with Y etc it’s my Retailer that my family and I turn to not OHM or any manufacturer. As long as there are Independent Retailers like Artesian Beads and Great Lakes I will not buy from brand self owned outlets as IMO they are competing with their Retailers.
Victoria, Sorry for the long post and thanks for the time and space. Hugs.

      Hey,

I’m sorry you feel that way πŸ™ It can’t be nice.

For what it’s worth, here at Great Lakes we’re very much still involved with Ohm (and our other brands :)) and still trying our best too keep customers as happy as we can πŸ™‚

I hope you had a good Christmas πŸ™‚ And I truly hope you’ll find some pleasure in Ohm again one day. Do remember that although they do operate their own e-commerce website, it’s actually independent retailers mostly filling those orders so they are supporting the stores I think. I do understand many of you were sorry to see Artisan Bead Boutique cease as an Ohm retailer though.
