Ohm Beads Trick or Treat Teaser (Bead of the Month October 2017)

This Ohm Beads blog brings the teaser for the upcoming Ohm Beads Trick or Treat, Bead of the Month for October.

After the plethora of giveaways to celebrate Ohm Beads’ 9th anniversary yesterday, today brings the latest preview. (Do remember some of the Ohmversary celebrations are ongoing all week so check the article above if you have yet to participate.) Actually it’s more of a teaser because the Ohm Beads Trick or Treat, Bead of the Month for October 2017, sees blind distribution. The confirmed number of beads is nine hundred and ninety nine (999) with a retail price of $95, โ‚ฌ86 or ยฃ77. The release date is September the 28th.

Ohm Beads Trick or Treat

There are two versions of Trick or Treat. There are no details as to what percentage of the total each finish comprises. They will be distributed in sealed packages and feature jack o’ lantern themed boxes.

Ohm Beads Trick or Treat Pre-Ordering

Once again the bead is not released until September the 28th but pre-orders begin today. Please don’t ask your favourite retailer to ship immediately, no one has stock yet. I’ll be editing this list throughout the day.

Ohm Beads Trick or Treat Summary

Firstly of course this is another blind distribution which will immediately split opinions. We’re facing the same situation as with Heart of Stone where the community has absolutely no idea what is in those boxes. Second to that it’s a slightly more expensive bead again, though cheaper than the aforementioned Heart of Stone.

I’ve always rather enjoyed the blind distributions but I have to confess a ludicrous amount of bias towards anything themed for Halloween. I love the holiday and the chances of me disliking a Halloween bead are remote.

I am still a little undecided regarding these very advanced previews on the basis that I feel it’s confusing collectors to be receiving teasers of designs two months in advance.

Remember if you’re searching for ordering links for current or past Bead of the Month designs, you can find my latest list here.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on this brief teaser of the upcoming Ohm Beads Trick or Treat? Will you be pre-ordering? Do you have any thoughts on what the bead will be? Hit the comments and let me know!

Worth noting that Joseph Welch are letting you chose to pay full price or a ยฃ5 deposit ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Katie

That is actually a great solution. I applaud their forward thinking and customer service.

    • Noemi

Wow, that’s great to hear! Do they ship worldwide?

      • Hayley Welch

Noemi, we do ship worldwide ๐Ÿ˜Š Free on orders over ยฃ75!

      • Faye M

Yes, I believe they offer free worldwide delivery over ยฃ75 ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Rosie

Almost 3 in the morning here and I stayed up to get my order in. Can’t wait see what I just bought!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • endangeredtrolls

This made me giggle ๐Ÿ˜‰ You won’t be disappointed ๐Ÿ˜€

      xoxo

      • Rosie

        I got 2! Glad I work 2nd shift!

        • endangeredtrolls

I’m going to be aiming for two as well. Well I say that but then there’s the whole finish thing.. and I know I’m going to be chasing one of those. We’ll see! ๐Ÿ˜›

          xoxo

  3. Nadja

I hope it doesn’t shock you, Victoria, but I don’t “do” Halloween (in Germany it just feels like one big marketing exercise) so I will just sit back, relax and wait for the end of September to see if I like it or not.

    • endangeredtrolls

No not at all! I’m a live and let live kinda girl and no one should have to do anything.

I understand that to some Halloween feels commercialised – though at least it hasn’t gone the way of Christmas – but as a Brit, I always get slightly offended that the Americans seem to “claim” Halloween when actually all they did was commercialise it ๐Ÿ˜€ (That said, in more recent years there have been some arguments that it pre-dates Samhain too.)

      xoxo

  4. Agi

I absolutly love the box, it is so cute. I have nothing against blind distribution, but it depends on the price whether I preorder or not. For me 86 โ‚ฌ are too much for preordering, I will wait until I have seen photos of the bead.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes I know from the discussions on the last article (when the blind distribution was first announced,) it was quite obvious collectors were very price sensitive to this type of plan. Though it’s not as expensive as Heart of Stone, it’s also got more of a definite theme.. and to some that’s going to mean less versatility. I’ll be keeping everyone upto date with the stock situation at my retail partners so hopefully pre-order decisions can be based on that ๐Ÿ™‚

      xoxo

  5. Beckie

retail for UK seems to be ยฃ77 not ยฃ50 ๐Ÿ™
I’m torn between wanting it and being stubborn….. I love Halloween but if I don’t like it or don’t get the version I want it will be so disappointing :/ UGH

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes pricing for the UK is corrected ๐Ÿ™‚

I wish I could help. I do know what the bead is (though I’ve not seen the end result,) but I’d get in so much trouble. For what it’s worth, I love it. I want two regardless of the version I get because the actual design is strong for those who like Halloween.

      xoxo

      • Beckie

I will trust your judgement and will hold you responsible if I hate it LOL! I trust your taste :p
When I realised Joseph Welch was allowing a deposit I figured it would be rude not to order 2……. fingers crossed coz it’s a looooooong wait!!! :p
You can never have too much Halloween……………

        • endangeredtrolls

I think you’re going to like it ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ In fact I’m pretty confident you will ๐Ÿ˜‰

          xoxo

  6. Sarah

I love halloween but am not going to order something so expensive I can’t see what it is first and it’s too early to be paying out for something that I’m not getting until October! Pre-order is one thing but pre order and pre pay is another two months in advance! Also I don’t like the blind distribution because I don’t particularly like any of the finishes except the normal silver so much prefer to see what’s available first. I hope Ohm keep coming up with lovely new beads and like the bead of the month but not blind distribution (although keep all the different finishes because I know they’re popular with others, just let us choose which we want) and maybe think about adjusting the timescale somehow?

    • endangeredtrolls

I know the earlier previews is proving a little controversial and I understand it. Certainly for the BotM designs, I think collectors are feeling pressured to purchase six weeks ahead of release through fear it sells out. There’s 999 available so whether stocks linger is going to depend a lot on the Halloween fanatics I think. I know there’s a decent group of us out there. BUT I am going to try and keep people upto date with the stock situation of my own retail partners. That’s the best I can do I think.

      xoxo

  7. Naomi

    L O V E Halloween.. Even though I live in germany… LOL
I am getting two of them. Hoping for 2 different styles.. or at least different finishes… Iยดm absolutly OK with the blind distribution, since it is way below 100โ‚ฌ/$.. and I can be absolutly sure, I will love it. Hope for a pumpkin. The box at least hints that much ๐Ÿ˜‰ will be a great adition to my Halloweenbracelet(s) and my Deadhead –

    • endangeredtrolls

Me too. It’s just my favourite time of year. I love autumn as a season so to then have a punctuated by my favourite holiday is bliss. I will say that I’ know what it is, though I’ve not seen images of the end result or anything like that. If you like Halloween regardless of the finish you get it’s a STRONG design. I always have a very strong preference for certain finishes but this is a bead I want two of regardless.

      xoxo

  8. Kim

Nope, nope, nope. $100 is way too much to pay when you don’t have a clue what you’ll be getting. And asking people to pay almost two months in advance is a bit much as well. I don’t mind multiple finishes, but I liked the way they did Hive Mind, where you could choose the finish you wanted.

    • endangeredtrolls

I understand completely. It’s going to be interesting this time to see how the stock levels hold out until the actual release. Six weeks is such a long time.. This is my main real objection to the earlier previews. I think collectors are feeling a little pressured regarding the Bead of the Month.

      xoxox

  9. Mary Miller

Decisions, decisions…… I love, love, love Halloween (a lot) but $90 usd is a lot….I was so hoping for under $70. I’ll have to think on it! Also, I agree with you that it’s a bit confusing having the previews come out so much earlier than the release date. I’ve lost track!

    • endangeredtrolls

I think a lot of people have lost track. I’ve been receiving a larger number of messages and emails from people who actually don’t want to ask publicly because they feel in someway embarrassed but they can’t remember what is coming when. I think it’s because we’re seeing, for example, October previews before September beads even arrive. Also no matter how many times I stress release dates, some miss the information in the excitement, run off to pre-order and are then cancelling those pre-orders when they’re told release is six weeks away.

I’ll try and keep everyone upto date with the stock levels at my retail partners… Hopefully that might help with decisions on whether to buy or not!

If you love Halloween though I will say it’s a very very strong design in my opinion.
      xoxo

      • Mary

It’s definitely harder to keep track now, thank goodness for your blog, I can come back and quickly check dates and prices when I need to!

I’m still debating about Trick or Treat…..I thought of another possible thing: I’m not a huge fan of anything scary or gory with Halloween so I run the risk of it being something like that…oh the decisions!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. Lynne

There is no way I will pay $95 for something I have no clue if I will like or not! I don’t have money to throw away. I do not like blind distributions. I will wait to see what the bead looks like and if I miss out so be it.

    • endangeredtrolls

Hopefully there will be stock available for those of you who want to wait. The absolute best I can do to help is reach out to some of my retail partners and see if they’d be kind enough to keep me upto date (if they remember, most are so so busy.)

      xoxo

      • Lynne

Oh Victoria, I hope you are not taking what I said to heart. If the stores sell out, good for them. That is the chance I’m willing to take. I refuse to get caught up in the hype of needing to buy it right now. If Ohm wants my money almost 2 mos. before I know what I’m buying then they should have a money back guarantee if I don’t like it.

        • endangeredtrolls

Oh absolutely not! I completely understand where you are coming from. I also agree with you about the very early advanced previews of the Bead of the Month designs. For the “normal” designs it doesn’t bother me so much because it’s more confusing than an actual problem. With the Bead of the Month designs I think some people are feeling pressured to make a decision very fast and when it’s so far ahead of them receiving their bead…

          /hugs

  11. Kathy

I love how Ohm is playing with the “Trick or Treat” Theme with a blind distribution. While I understand the split verdict on the “blind” release – I am on the side that loves the anticipation. My motto – you get what you get and you don’t get upset. I can’t wait to rip thru the package to see what was dealt me.

    • endangeredtrolls

I love it too and even more so because it’s Halloween. If EVER there was a time to do this, it’s for that holiday. I can’t wait. I love the holiday. I love the autumn season. There’s never enough Halloween beads for me so to get a Halloween Bead of the Month? Total icing on the cake ๐Ÿ˜€

      xoxo

  12. Noemi

Again, I hate blind distributions, I will not be paying for something that expensive without knowing what I am paying for. I do love Halloween, so I will be waiting to see what it looks like once others receive their beads. Like Sarah, I prefer the regular silver versions, I don’t care for other finishes.

    • endangeredtrolls

I wish I could comment on the finishes or even knew what the percentage break down of each is. I have a suspicion but we’ll discuss that more at release.

I am going to reach out to my retail partners and ask if they can keep me upto date with their stock situation but there’s no guarantees anyone will have the time for that. Hopefully there’ll be plenty for those of you who want to wait <3

      xoxo

  13. Katie

I love Halloween and pre ordered this bead as soon as I woke up. Since the bead is for Halloween, there is a very good chance that I will love the bead. Odd to say, but I love the box, which makes the bead seem quite promising.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’ve been sat here humming Halloween songs (from Nightmare Before Christmas) for the past hour. I need to calm this down or I’ll annoy everyone for the next two months (I’m not counting October since well… that’s BASICALLY Halloween right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

      xoxo

  14. Ilse

About the early pre-ordering: I usually order more than one item at a time to reduce shipping costs. But if one of them is a pre-order like this, I have to wait for the other beads as well until the release date of the pre-ordered item. I could wait with the pre- order, but then it might be sold out, so sometimes I don’t like to take the risk of waiting. It makes ordering less fun, with all the planning ahead, I think. Of course I should remind myself there are people in this world with more serious problems. But I don’t really understand why I should like early pre-orders. It’s not like Ohm is going to make more beads if they sell out long before the release date. So what’s in it for me? And for Ohm?

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi ๐Ÿ™‚

I understand your logic completely ๐Ÿ™‚ I actually mentioned in the last discussion about this if maybe we needed different preview and pre-order dates… say two weeks apart.. so everyone had chance to look at the beads, think and then pre-order. On the other hand that then means everyone has THREE dates to keep track of ๐Ÿ™ Preview, pre-order and release – much like it is with Trollbeads for example.

      I don’t know.

      xoxo

  15. Tanya

I’m a little sad to say that Ohm has priced me out of their market. I have far too many real world financial obligations to spend $95 on a silver “blind bead” even if it is lovely. Their prices seem to be getting higher and higher for one of the smallest proportioned silver collections, oftentimes making them more expensive than Pandora! Honestly have been a little turned off by the marketing gimmicks that play on collectors’ impulsivity and loyalty. I’m happy to say I’ve broken the habit and no longer buy into the Ohm hype. My credit cards are happier for it. If I miss it, and it’s a coveted design, I will happily admire this bead from afar ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • endangeredtrolls

Aaaah. I really am sorry to hear that but I totally understand as well. The good thing is there’s lots of other brands out there so I think these days there’s something to suit all tastes and budgets ๐Ÿ™‚

      xoxo

  16. Alexandra R

I feel like Ohm beads are getting more and more expensive. And that’s annoying. I like their ideas and I love their creativity and the fact that they listen to us (by the way, Mike or Kit, I’d love a flying monkey bead ๐Ÿ˜‰) but the prices are getting way more expensive. And there are so many release that it’s hard to keep up.
I actually like the idea of Trick or Treat being blind. So that’s good. And I don’t mind silver or dirty.
But it’s almost two month before the release!!!! That’s way to long. I mean, it’s getting ridiculous to order this long before the actual release. I love previews but I think that one month is more than enough. Having the preview and the pre-orders one month before the release should be more than enough!!!

  17. Gene

I love Halloween, but I just don’t have the nerve or the money to randomly purchase something sight unseen . I have to see what I am buying then I think about it…sometimes for awhile…and then if I really like it I’ll get it. Of course, I have missed beads doing that. This bead will probably be wonderful, but I’m going to wait and see.

  18. Rosie

I love the blind distributions and not knowing what the bead is yet. I think the people at OHM are such talent artists and I get the beads for the artistic designs. The planning, cost of making and production in general cost $$$. I can understand why some don’t like blind distributions but in a busy world this is my happy place, aka: beads. Oh, I got 2, shhhhh…..๐Ÿ˜‰

    • endangeredtrolls

See I agree with you entirely. I understand why people don’t like them, I truly do but I find it fun. I have such a huge amount of respect for Ohm and I think they bring someone crazy and new and exciting to the bead world. I can’t WAIT for my pumpkin themed boxes ๐Ÿ˜€

      xoxo

    • Nereida

Happy beads are your happy place, I started buying them for that miniature bliss too.
Planning, cost of making, and production cost $ for all jewelry designers, including Pandora, RBF and Trollbeads. Ohm, however, are the most expensive bead brand out there, especially considering the weight of the beads and their cheaper Asian factory production. When weight is taken into account, they are more expensive than ACA Kreations, which are heavier and handmade. They do have themes which others don’t touch and that makes them special. It’s a personal thing, what any design is worth to us. That’s, unfortunately, what blind distributions deny us the opportunity to decide. At their price point, that’s quite a risk.

  19. Lin

I wish I had 95$ to throw around “blindly”. That’s a pretty big risk to take…and it’s a pricey bead even if it were not a blind release. By troll prices it should be huge but it won’t be I’m sure. The price is for the packaging too but I’ve never been one to collect boxes and bead paraphernalia, I’m in it for the beads!

    • endangeredtrolls

I think it depends on what you consider huge. I thought Heart of Stone was pretty huge for example. Then again even if we had a stock image I’d not be able to tell how big it is. I really struggle to gauge size until it’s in my hand ๐Ÿ™

      xoxo

  20. Liz

    Love the box ๐Ÿ˜
My dream bead would be a cauldron and I have everything crossed, I am dreaming of a dirty cauldron ๐Ÿ˜„
My worst bead would be a spider โ˜น๏ธ
I have preordered with Joseph Welsh and paid ยฃ5 which is a really good idea.
I don’t mind the surprise of the finish but I hope we get more of an idea of the bead before the release date.

    • endangeredtrolls

I think there’s a core group of us who have been asking ANYONE every single year for a cauldron ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜‰ Maybe 2017 is the year ๐Ÿ™‚

      xoxo

    • endangeredtrolls

p.s. there’ll be no preview. As far as I’m aware this is it until release

      xoxo

  21. Alex

I for one do not like blind bags, why spend money on something I may not only dislike but could hate. On a side note I absolutely love Halloween and everything associated with it, so I will wait until release and hope it doesn’t sell and purchase then if I like it . One retailer posted that it is two finishes ( silver and oxidized ) which I think should be good news for most ๐Ÿ˜€

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes it’s one bead, silver and dirty finish as far as I’m aware ๐Ÿ™‚ I absolutely understand your reasoning though! Hopefully there’ll be enough to go around for those who want to wait <3

      xoxo

  22. Lisa G

I just wish Kit and Mike would see these comments. I think they are putting a strain on the buyers for something that should just be fun, with the very early pre orders and payments. Their old schedule of previews and pre orders was fairer to the buyer.

    • endangeredtrolls

Oh they read! Actually I had to re-draw the winner of my giveaway earlier today because the first number was actually Kit ๐Ÿ˜›

      xoxo

      • Lisa G

        Lol

      • Kit@ohm

        Really? I’ve never won anything.

  23. Debra

I love Halloween, so I went ahead and ordered mine. I don’t like the price but since it’s coming from OHM I’m sure it will be a nice bead. It would be nice if the box had a glass bead and a silver bead in it.

Do you know if OHM will be coming with a new Halloween collection, so will this be it?

I haven’t been in a bead mood for awhile, but I’m excited for this year.

    Thanks,
    Debra

    • endangeredtrolls

Well their October previews are next week so you don’t have too long to wait and see ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t really say much more than that unless Ohm tease their own details ๐Ÿ™‚

      xoxo

  24. Diana

Sigh, I know it’s been said several times above already but 100 dollar pre-order for an unknown design ugggg! I would not mind the “blind” distribution if it was you either get choice A or choice B, BUT not knowing the design or size of bead is too much. $100 bucks for a design that I may or may not like is frustrating. I love Halloween and I’m disappointed in the lack of info. I’m further disappointed with the fact that they are being snapped up and I will be out of options once revealed. I look forward to Ohms fall thru Winter designs and this is a big bummer.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m so sorry ๐Ÿ™ I’ve just checked through my retailer links again and yes, my two largest partners have sold out of their pre-orders (though I am trying to work out if we can free up a little more stock at GLB,) but everyone else seems to be okay on numbers right now ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m still crossing fingers and toes that there will be some for you ladies who want to see what you’re buying ๐Ÿ™‚

      xoxo

  25. Tami

I have heard people say that it is possible to “dirty” a shiny bead. Is it possible to “punditry” a shiny bead? Does anyone know? Mike or Kit you might know if you are reading.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes it’s just oxidisation ๐Ÿ™‚ Which is why they do become shiny over time, though you can have them darkened back down again ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s just for me it doesn’t feel the same to do a DIY job ๐Ÿ˜€

      xoxo

  26. Tami

    “undirty” not punditry

  27. Joe Welch

Hi everyone, for those not sure on this bead due to the price i should point out that buying from the UK means you don’t pay our VAT, this will make everything 20% cheaper than list UK price. Also with a poor pound value It makes Trick or Treat only $83 if i am not mistaken. My wife and i offer free shipping at Joseph Welch Jewellers on orders over ยฃ75 pounds, so combine this with one other bead or team up with a friend to place your orders and you can save $12! I hope this info is useful to you!!

    • Ilse

Thanks for the information, Joe! Is it only when ordering from the US that you don’t have to pay VAT, or also when ordering from any EU-country outside the UK? I’m getting confused about these things, especially with the UK leaving the EU (which makes me sad, by the way, I love the UK, but I guess this is not a place to discuss politics.)

      • endangeredtrolls

It’s only when you order from outside of the EU. The UK is still the EU ๐Ÿ™‚ So yes, you pay VAT ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Jane

I am a bit hesitant about this. I have four pumpkins already ๐ŸŽƒ๐ŸŽƒ๐ŸŽƒ๐ŸŽƒ, so I don’t need any more for my Halloween bracelet, and the box could indicate that it is “just another pumpkin”, no matter how fun or beautiful it may be. Besides, the very popular Deadhead was not really to my taste, and what if it looks remotely like that…
When will the design be revealed?

  29. Sonya T

Love it, but waaaay early for preorder when it comes to budgeting. By the end of September there may not be any left. Ugh!

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah.. that’s kind of why I’m trying to keep an eye on the stock levels. The links are upto date as of today but some of the larger stores are now sold out. It’s really difficult to say ๐Ÿ™

      xoxo

  30. s

I love halloween so.i have orderd one but i have given up on ohm sadly i have got a lot of their own designs. Part of what attracted me to them was their pricing as they did seem greedy. Now a bead that was once would of been priced at ยฃ30ish will now cost ยฃ75 its really sad

  31. Pippa

I finally broke down and ordered one as stock seems to be going down. I’m not so worried about finish and have my fingers crossed that I’ll love it based on the theme. I’m thinking it won’t be too extreme, as it is a blind box.

This is going to be a long wait.

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi Pippa! ๐Ÿ™‚

You’re absolutely right, stocks are vanishing. It was really difficult to judge how fast this would go I think, especially with the blind distribution issue being so provocative but I can’t see them lasting until release date when so many stores sold out already ๐Ÿ™ For what it’s worth, I think it’s a strong design <3

      xoxo
