Ohm Beads Trick or Treat Earliest Details (BotM October 2017)

This Ohm Beads blog brings the earliest details relating to the Ohm Beads Trick or Treat, Bead of the Month for October 2017.

Yesterday saw the release of the Ohm Beads Sun Dragon as the Bead of the Month for August and if you still need to order this bead you can do so via Ohm Beads USA (and please note this link is affiliate,) Great Lakes Boutique (USA,) Exclusive Bead Store (UK) or Joseph Welch.

We already know that the Bead of the Month for September is the Ohm Beads Kamasutra and pre-orders have started for that already:-

Ohm Beads Trick or Treat

On August the 9th there is a partial preview of the Ohm Beads Trick or Treat, confirmed as the Bead of the Month for October. The actual release date is September the 28th, the Day before the Bead Bash on the Lake event. The number produced hasn’t been publicly announced yet, nor has the price. It will however be another blind distribution (hence the partial preview!)

Obviously the name betrays what many of us were hoping for; a further Halloween themed Bead of the Month. It’s no secret that I adore Halloween and I have to confess I’ve already started some photography for the holiday already so this news just makes me so happy.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the earliest details of the Ohm Beads Trick or Treat? What design would you like to see? Are you happy or sad to see another blind distribution (though clearly there’s some kind of preview to come.) Hit the comments and let me know!

I love Halloween! I am fine with blind distribution because so many Ohmies are willing to trade. But, fingers crossed for a reasonable price. I still have lots (and lots!!!) of other Ohm beads on my wish list. And, with birthdays and Christmas coming I need to be more careful how I spend my bead dollars.

  2. Beckie

I love Halloween and I’m really looking forward to this one. I hope the price is reasonable though- I really dislike blind bags, I like to know what I’m getting before I part with my cash. I can live with it when the price is right but feel it’s ridiculous to part with hundreds of pounds for something you may hate :/
fingers crossed this isnt cutesy 🙂

    • endangeredtrolls

Pricing is obviously going to be a factor for people here and there’s nothing confirmed yet. As soon as I do have that information I’ll update 🙂 Is it completely blind distribution you dislike? (Like with Heart of Stone?) What if we saw the bead but didn’t know potential variations? And what if there’s no way of then knowing which version you’re getting (like with Luna?)

      xoxo

      • Beckie

Completely blind I don’t take part in at all- but for Halloween I think I would as I know there has rarely been a Halloween bead I’ve hated so the odds are in my favour.
If it wasn’t a Halloween bead I’d avoid it totally until the first ones started to appear and if I couldn’t find one then I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.

I prefer the blind purchases that give surprise finishes but still don’t like them. I’d b disappointed if I didn’t get the one I wanted and I like to know what I’m buying BEFORE I hand over my cash in general.

As a child I lived buying little blind bag toys and had stacks of them everywhere. I couldn’t understand why my parents tried to steer me away lol. I was quite content having 6 of the same figure. But beads are an expensive luxury and I want to buy what I like, not what I feel tricked into with all the hype and worry over missing out. It doesn’t bother me any more- I’d rather miss out lol

Though if it was a bead I loved I’d like multiples, but would never risk so much money for more than one blindly. Even one is a push to be honest 🙂

  3. Katie

My birthday is Halloween and I’ve always loved Halloween. I am looking forward to a Halloween themed bead. I’m of two minds with blind distributions. The surprise can be nice, but if it is a disappointment, I get a bit mad at myself for buying something sight unseen.

    • endangeredtrolls

I think some of it comes back to how blind we’re talking. There’s not much information been made available. As Kim said are we going to see the bead first and then maybe the variations are blind? Or are we just getting nothing but a box picture like Heart of Stone? Honestly though I love Halloween so much that if they show me a picture of a Halloween-ish box, I’m going to want it regardless :/ All sense goes out of the window

      xoxo

      • Katie

If there is a title for Halloween on a blind purchase, I’d probably buy it. And, I did buy the Heart of Stone, and I did like what I got. But, there is the risk of disappointment and I don’t like to throw money away on a bead that I don’t like. Also, I do buy multiples sometimes, and I might like the ‘blind’ buy on the first bead, but I would probably prefer to see what I’m buying on the second.

  4. Kim

I’m not a Halloween fan, and I think ponying up a substantial amount of money when you don’t know what you’re getting is ridiculous. It’s one thing if the only surprise us which finish you’ll get, although I’m not crazy about that either. But totally blind distribution – nope. Hopefully they’ll make a sufficient quantity that it will be available for people who don’t want to blind order after the release.

    • Noemi

I agree. Especially with the price of beads going up it’s crazy for me to part with my money on something sight unseen.

      • endangeredtrolls

Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet. As soon as I have anything I’ll be sure to publish that too 🙂

        xoxo

    • endangeredtrolls

I’ll be honest, I have absolutely no idea how this semi preview thing is going to work. Maybe by semi they mean they’ll unveil the design but not the variations? Maybe they’ll unveil the variations but not the bead?! :p I mean you never know with Ohm right? 😛

I’ll confirm the pricing as soon as I have it though. If it went the way Heart of Stone did, lots will be deterred by the initial idea of blind distribution meaning there will be plenty of stock available *after* the unveiling for those who still want. (Assuming that’s how the unveiling goes..) It’s all a bit confusing :p

      xoxo

  5. Mary

    LOVE the blind bags….

    • endangeredtrolls

I must admit I enjoyed the Heart of Stone but I did also get the two finishes I particularly wanted so would I have felt differently if I hadn’t? Perhaps. I do get caught up in the buzz of it all though. I think it’s fun 🙂

      xoxo

  6. Gene

I love Halloween, don’t care for the blind distribution. I would love for it to be something along the lines of Deadhead.

    • endangeredtrolls

Deadhead as a bit Halloween meets Día de Muertos. Lil’ bit zaney… VERY Ohm 😉 I can’t wait to see what this is 😀

      xoxo

  7. Christina

They had me at Halloween. ❤️
I tend to wear my dark shadows and other spooky beads almost every day, so I’m in. Can’t wait.

    • endangeredtrolls

Me too Christina 😀 The moment anything vaguely related to Halloween is mentioned, I’m all for it 😉 But! It’s August now.. so we’re just a few weeks from September really and that’s *practically* Halloween right? 😉

      xoxo

  8. Marie

I absolutely love Halloween…. I (im)patiently wait for mid-September before I start my pumpkin and jack wearing, then re-recipe a mix adding some creepier monster themes in October, then re-recipe again in November to pumpkins and leaves, and eventually Christmas. I love my pumpkins (jacks or otherwise) since they get the longest season wear time, so I’m really hoping that Ohm has revisited a pumpkin or jack in this BOM… I’m also hoping that if finish variations are available that they are more equally distributed so we have better chances at getting any one of them.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’d still really like to know the exact figures for the Heart of Stone finishes. I know a distributor leaked something (which I never saw,) but Ohm HQ never confirmed it so I tend to not to trust it so much 😉

  9. Liz

More Halloween talk 😍, can’t wait to see it. I don’t mind the not knowing the finishes as I liked the surprise of Luna but I want to know what I’m buying first.
I’m going to have to be careful with buying at the minute as I am saving for the OHM event at Joseph Welsh.

    • endangeredtrolls

It feels like half of bead world is saving for events at the moment. It could be worse Liz, think of the ladies that usually do two or three of the big US events.. they have three consecutive weekends to budget for 😀

      xoxo

  10. Suzy

Honestly I am too picky about my beads, I don’t even like to buy glass beads with variations without seeing them in person first. I only buy blind if by the semi-preview/name I know it is something I could gift if I don’t like it and if the price is right. I feel that they should charge less if we are buying blind to make up for the risk we are taking on not liking the bead.
But I am not a heavy silver collector, because silver tarnishes super fast on my skin/weather and so I know that for every bead I buy it is one more bead to have to care for and keep clean… I try to be very selective about my silver jewellery.

    • endangeredtrolls

I can understand anyone not wanting to buy glass or stones from stock images. I think live images now are almost essential. Silver is for the most part different since it shouldn’t really differ. Of course that doesn’t really apply so well to blind distribution 😉 It’s worth noting though, we don’t actually know if it is silver. Maybe one day they’ll do blind glass distribution and surprise everyone 😀

      xoxo

  11. Lynne

Hmmmm….I’m not a fan of blind distribution. For me pricing is also a factor. Not a huge fan of Halloween. I love fall but never liked things jumping out at me. Wonder if it will be something like the Bunny Reaper but for Halloween. Time will tell!

    • Beth

Oooh, that’d be awesome if it’s a Halloween Bunny! I’m not sure what the variations would be in that case, but who knows what the geniuses at Ohm will come up with. 😉

      • endangeredtrolls

I guess they could still do different finishes. Or squeeze some different contrast in there.

        xoxo

  12. Beth

I love Fall, and, like Marie above, I start with the pumpkins and other fall beads as soon as I can get away with it. I’m not a fan of the dressing up part of Halloween, but I *love* the decorations. I don’t mind blind distributions at all. I’ve had a lot of fun with the ones I’ve purchased. Would I like a dark Luna? Absolutely. But I’m very fond of my silver Luna.

    • endangeredtrolls

I *love* fall decorations in general. Especially Halloween of course but just seeing pumpkins outside, candles lit in windows, decorations made from pinecones and horse chestnuts, autumnal coloured wreaths on doors.. blankets on benches..

      Ah! I love autumn!!! 😀 😀 😀

I was given a dark luna which made me *so* ludicrously happy as it’s still one of my favourite beads ever.

      xoxo

  13. Angela

Under $40 blind is ok , a little over is maybe but over $75 blind buy is Hell No..

    • endangeredtrolls

I can’t imagine it would be under $40, though no pricing has yet to be confirmed. I’ll keep everyone upto date once it is! 🙂

      xoxo

  14. Nereida

Absolutely HATE blind distributions. If they want to add some fun for those that do like it, they can ship blind for those people and have a code on the bottom for those that want to pick what they get and a spoiler web page for those that want to know in a complete blind distribution. It seems it’s just a way for Ohm to sell more of what might not easily sell if shown. However, I do love Halloween. Given that there isn’t much time to trade or sell the bead if it’s not right for me, I may still just pass. The odds that it’ll be that perfect Halloween bead that nightmares and dreams are made of is slim, and there are many other amazing Halloween beads. The best way to sell to me is by visual temptation. Barring that, I’ve never felt the need to “collect”, only to enjoy.

    • endangeredtrolls

The “code” issue with Heart of Stone was never intentional and from what I understand, not wholly accurate either. I don’t see Ohm ever using that option. On the other hand they do know that the blind distribution splits opinion and I don’t think they’ve ever been afraid to stop / start / change their mind on issues.

Hopefully if the distribution is wholly blind, like with Heart of Stone, there’ll still be good time for those of you who hate that idea to buy it after it gets unveiled.

      xoxo

      • Nereida

Hmmm, what was the “code” issue with Heart of Stone?
Using a code on the box to differentiate versions for those who don’t want to be surprised was just an idea of mine. I wasn’t aware of any code occurrences with that release. I am curious if you’re free to elaborate. 🙂

  15. Tami

When I hear trick or treat, I think that the blind distribution will be two beads – one a trick and one a treat. The other thing I think of is costumes and candy. Maybe the blind part will be different kinds of candy or the bunny dressed in different costumes. I don’t know if I will be interested, but I am having fun thinking of the possibilities since it is Ohm.

  16. Mary Miller

I love, love, love the idea of a Blind Box. I am so hoping the price will be reasonable because I love Halloween too!

  17. Rosie

I love Halloween and I don’t mind the blind bead distribution. I wanted the oxidized middle and silver outer for the heart of stone but got 3 silver. I like them but maybe they should do an even distribution. So, you have a shot at the one you want. Just a thought! I really love the OHM brand. I think they just keep getting better and better!
