Ohm Beads Purple Rain Inspiration

This Ohm Beads blog brings a little winter inspiration starring the Ohm Beads Purple Rain.

Yesterday saw the pre-orders begin for Ohm’s January 2019 designs and it’s such a strong release. Iconic favourites such as Wings of Protection and Rawr glass are reappearing and there’s a super cute Bead of the Month with the Year of the Pig. Pre-orders also began for the second in a new series of exclusive glass for Great Lakes Boutique with Purple Rain being unveiled. The turn around on this bead in terms of the time we had between delivery and live image pre-orders was extremely short and last night I finally got a chance to sit down and actually play with it.

It’s retailing at $50 and the release date is January the 3rd but you can pre-order immediately. Remember while stocks last spends of $100 or more qualify for the free Ohm Beads Snow Globe (so two Purple Rain beads.)

With Purple Rain we were aiming for a soft purple shade without stepping into warmer pastel shades as it was created for January and the heart of the winter season. It also needed to complement Touch of Grey perfectly so again, the undertones needed to be cooler. Ohm did an amazing job of translating the shade we wanted to the end result and it’s such a beautiful shade in person.

I love the winter season and for this bracelet I’ve combined Purple Rain, Touch of Grey and a couple of the Hubba Bubba CustOhms. Purple Rain uses cubic zirconia which I love for these beads. One option is to style it as a focal and keep your other glass more muted and sparkle free. Hubba Bubba is a perfect complement for this (and we listed some here for anyone wishing to purchase them.)

For the silver beads you’ll see the Redbalifrog Holly Man and Green Man, two of my absolute favourite silver designs. I’ve also included the Ohm Beads Rose and the Great Lakes Boutique Krossed but overall the bracelet is predominantly glass.

Ohm Beads Purple Rain Summary

I want to explain a little about the inspiration for this new line of glass. The last year in bead world has been really interesting to watch. There’s been a definite shift towards very limited edition releases with collectors rushing to buy. Glass is becoming so flashy and complex too. While this all brings an element of excitement for some, it can also be that you end up reflecting on a stash of new purchases which feel very eclectic. Often when we’re caught up in the latest must have, we don’t stop to think about what we’ll actually do with it.

What we wanted to create with Ohm was a series of core, wearable colours. The shades will be predominantly seasonal and each will hopefully complement what preceded it. This will give you a basis of simple coloured glass that will hopefully underpin all the crazy patterns and remove a little of the “how do I wear this?

Purple Rain does vary and some of the beads are definitely a little cooler in tone than others. It’s a truly beautiful shade in person though a little difficult to capture very accurately on camera. You’ll find very small amounts of subtle ombre in some of the beads (just like Touch of Grey,) where others have a small ribbons of darker colour.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Ohm Beads Purple Rain? Hit the comments and let me know!

I love this idea of building a core collection with colors that complement each other. You can switch them out and put some other color in and it will still look nice. It’s like Garanimals for adult bead wearers:)

That’s exactly the idea. You’ll be able to add focals, switch the shades and new seasonal (and on trend) colours will be added 🙂

Glad to hear you like the theory!
