Ohm Beads Inner Self Preview (Ohm Beads Bead of the Month May 2019)

This Ohm Beads blog brings a complete preview of the upcoming Ohm Beads Inner Self, Bead of the Month for May 2019.

Happy preview day! Today we’re seeing the Ohm Beads May 2019 collections unveiled. What’s so alarming about this is the fact that the next set will be June and that’s the mid-way point for the year. All of the beads unveiled today have a release date of May the 1st. Pre-orders are permitted immediately but it’s at retailer discretion. For reference you can now pre-order any of these new items with Great Lakes Boutique via the link below:-

Ohm Beads Inner Self

The Ohm Beads Inner Self is the Bead of the Month for May 2019. Five hundred and fifty five (555) have been produced and it’s retailing at $140.

There are several variations of the inner glass seen in this bead and they are in sealed packaging so this is a part blind distribution. (In the sense that you can see the design from the preview but not the inner glass you will receive.)

Ohm Beads Inner Self

I love the concept of this bead and to clarify I’m unsure whether that group image shows every variation of the inner glass or not. That said $140 for a bead is a very high price for many.

It is a focal size and to give you an idea of that there’s a campaign image below.

I think this is a bead I would like to have but at the price point, I want to choose my glass. I see at least one color I would never choose, so I won’t be purchasing. Personally, I am very tired of the high prices beads have come to represent. I believe some of these companies have become a bit too greedy and it sadly has forced many to pull back. It is a very cool bead, but I will refrain.

I’m sorry to hear that but with so many releases across the brands these days, hopefully there will soon be a new must have for you πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚

I like the bead, but blind distribution? No way. I don’t understand why ohm continues to do this when the collectors have all expressed their dislike for the process. They’re alienating the consumer.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m sorry to hear that πŸ™ But it’s definitely feedback to take to Ohm πŸ™‚

Woke up at 3 and ordered! This is a great focal bead. Ohm if you are reading, blind bags don’t really make anyone happy. Luckily the pictures shows some of the options and I guess I would be okay with what I get.

    • endangeredtrolls

It is indeed an awesome focal and I hope you will end up with a version you love πŸ™‚

I saw this head and thought WOW!! I love it. Then I saw the price and was totally turned off. I agree with the others that the price point of many beads has gone way out of bounds. Then I saw it was blind distribution. No way. I really do not like the blind distribution. For that price everyone who wants the bead should be able to pick what they want.

    • endangeredtrolls

I do understand the sentiment completely and I’m sorry πŸ™

Maybe Ohm was thinking of catering to a wide variety of its customers Inner Self , therefore produced several color options. Good idea but there it ends when the blind draw thing comes in, so few collectors I know favor that nonsense, cannot fathom why Ohm continues to offer it. As originally shown in Blue is lovely and had me excited till I saw the price. $140 nope and with all the packaging garbage makes me want it less.
Hey OHM just think how fun this could have been if you had made this open purchase , skips the wasteful unnessary packaging ,more reasonable price ($75-90) and encourage us to buy the color according to our own perceived feelings or emotions on a given day. At $75 I would have tried to collect all colors shown .
With a blind draw and for reasons expressed by others plus I do not need anyone to tell me by chance or otherwise who or what my Inner Self should be.Nice concept for a charm but Ohm has made it extremely easy to say Nope.

Nicely said Angela! That’s exactly my thoughts as well. My passion for beads has dwindled a great deal since the Fall. I’m just tired of all the games….blind boxes and limited edition that people fight over. I’ve come to only want beads that have a very special meaning. This bead looks lovely and has a cool meaning behind it. But like you said, the blind choice takes away from the entire meaning! We should choose what represents our “inner self”!! Not OHM! And I’m trying to get rid of clutter, so all that useless packaging is just a waste and will go in the trash. Cool design, cool idea, but they missed the mark….again. $140 for a bead and I don’t even get to choose the color? Insane!

      • Stephanie

Not only should they have made it possible for the customer to pick which glass represented their inner self but it would have been cool if they had some kind of explanation/meaning or story behind each color to make it more personal for the customer and a more meaningful choice. So disappointing.

  6. Mary

I like the sentiment, but not the look of the bead. Not in any color. And the blind bead concept has got to go. It can be fun … but only if you like all the options.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m really sorry to hear this πŸ™ It’s a shame that what is clearly a popular design with the community has been marred by the blind bags πŸ™ I hope their next release suits you more πŸ™‚

  7. Mary Madigan

I was quite excited to see this bead… love the colour… price is high but it is beautiful and thought worth it and there are a couple of colours I absolutely love…then I read it is a blind bag…I don’t know how to tell Ohmbeads that they will understand that people DO NOT want blind bags.. You want me to spend $140 of my hard earned money for your product DON’T ask me to buy a pig in a poke. I am done and out of principle I WILL NEVER BUY BLIND BAG BEADS… Maybe Ohm will finally … finally get the message. Do I sound angry? Good because I am angry with Ohm and their bloody games.

  8. Paula, Gravesend

I understand what others are saying about blind bags it has put me off other beads before. I would have collected all the options of Heart of Stone if we could have chosen but ended up with 2 versions only because Joseph Welch were prepared to swap an opened bead for me (unfortunately they no longer sell Ohm). Having said that I have ordered 2 of the beads and just hope I get 2 different colours and like them both.

    • endangeredtrolls

Crossing my fingers for you that you get two different colours! If not I do think there’ll be a lot of trades happening on social media.

  9. Jan

Even if I object to the glass color,( which I probably will),, I decided I like the faces enough to order 2.
Agree with everything said above about the over pricing and blind packaging.

  10. Veroniek

I like the bead and the idea, I don’t like the price and the fact that it comes in a blind bag. What bothers me too: the fact that the beads are cheaper in the USA. Buying at GLB is always a good experience but it comes with a chance of your package being held in customs and additional fees.

    • endangeredtrolls

Everything is more expensive in Europe because you are paying VAT. In the USA there is no VAT. It’s not possible for the prices to be identical without someone taking a loss somewhere. If packages are held it’s precisely to apply the VAT rates πŸ™‚ It’s just a “problem” with living in Europe.

  11. Lola

These are beautiful. The price is high, but they’re big beads and spectacularly done. If I collected Ohm, I’d be on this one, even at the high exchange. The blind buy is a touchy thing, I personally don’t mind it, but I can see why it might not be popular for pricier items, and if somebody really dislikes some of the colors. I’d be interested to know how many of each color were made; evenly, or as evenly as possible? That would be fun to find out.

    • endangeredtrolls

For me the bling bag depends on the design but equally I understand why people get upset. They want to spend their money getting exactly what they want. Not a percentage chance of getting what they want. On the flip side there are plenty of examples where money can’t buy you a product you want regardless. (The fashion industry is notorious for putting very strict limits on products to the point you’re unlikely to acquire one.)

I think the community would be more tolerant if it was very rare. Perhaps two blind bags in a row was a little too much.

  12. Nancy

Just got mine and it is a beautiful teal, turquoise, blue color- some of my favorite colors so I am happy with it.

  13. Jan

Mine arrived and they are beautiful! One has muted pink and some faint purple and the other has white background with yellow and modern flower look. Both have really exceeded my expectations! Now I wish I’d ordered more!

  14. Jan

Oh, I forgot to mention the silver craftsmanship is divine. These are amazing beads!
Probably the best I’ve seen from any brand.
