Ohm Beads Heart of Stone Teaser (Bead of the Month June 2017)

This Ohm Beads blog brings a further teaser for the upcoming Ohm Beads Heart of Stone, Bead of the Month for June 2017.

It’s the Ohm Beads June 2017 collections preview day! June the 1st is the next release day for the US based brand and once again there are multiple new charm designs launching. Included in the new releases is the Ohm Beads Heart of Stone, Bead of the Month for June and the subject of much speculation and discussion.

Heart of Stone is seeing entirely blind distribution. The bead itself is sealed inside a solid concrete box and the only way to access the contents is to break it open.

Ohm Beads Heart of Stone

We do know a total of one thousand one hundred and eleven (1111) of these beads have been made and as usual they are stamped with an individual serial code and come complete with a certificate of authenticity. There are a total of three finishes but there’s no clarification as to what these are. The retail price is $140, €130 or £117 and here’s the story behind the bead.

Once there was a happy man. He loved his life and the people around him. He helped those who needed help, and didn’t feel obligated to do so. He loved his family above all. He did what he had to do to support his children and spouse. He didn’t want them to suffer. But, times were tough. He didn’t have enough to reach The Dream™. The family got by. They had each other.

On the way to work, while waiting for the bus, the man stood by a familiar lamp post plastered in flyers. One read: “Black Magic. Live Your Dream! You have enough love to give. Call now!” He called.

The voice, soft enough to give you tingles, whispered into his ear. They told him everything he wanted to hear – that he was suffering – that he wanted more – that he could get more. The voice encouraged him to dream bigger. They offered him empathy and help.

The man said “All I need is money. I want to be rich. I want to give my family everything they want!”

“Anything is possible,” the voice said, “but you have to pay the price. In return for financial stability I am asking for your heart. It is a simple transaction. You will give me your heart and I will give you this one, just like yours, but stone. Same same, but different. No surgery required!” the voice laughed. The man agreed.

He woke up in a big empty house, unhappy, and totally alone. What’s wrong with me? He thought. What happened to my life?

Suddenly memories flooded his brain. He did get rich after all, not quickly but over time. Money didn’t bring happiness. He didn’t notice the time as it rippled away from him. He didn’t notice his family evolve, his children grow, and leave. Now an old man, a heart of stone left him unable to feel the good in life. Unable to feel his love and affection his partner and children left him. Unable to be close, his friends turned away.

The man needed to go for a walk. He was devastated. Becoming wealthy, was it worth it? The man found himself staring mindlessly at a tv screen in a shop window with candy colored flickering images dulling his senses begging for attention. Then he saw it. An ad flashed “Black Magic. Stop Dreaming. Call Now!” He fixated on the numbers, 555-1111. He called.

After a few taps and clicks on the line, a soft voice answered.

“What do you want?”

“I want my old self back. I want my life back. I want my heart back. I want my feelings back. I want to be able to feel again and screw the money, I’ve always had enough, not more, not less.” The man cried uncontrollably.

He woke early Sunday morning. Freshly brewed coffee called him from the kitchen. He heard his children laughing and a puppy’s bark. “Oh! It was just a dream!” he thought. Thankfully, it was just a dream… He felt his heart relax. He felt it pump. A shiny, loving, full of life heart; he could feel the ends of the earth in his blood. He was alive, again, like never before.

What happens going forward? We don’t know. #ChipAwayAtYourInsecurities

Ohm Beads Heart of Stone Pre-Ordering

For those of you wanting to pre-order, here’s a list of my retail partners. Remember they cannot ship until June the 1st.

Ohm Beads Heart of Stone Summary

Obviously it’s the blind distribution of this charm that has been the focus of much discussion. The retail price of $140 is also higher than most of the Bead of the Month designs. Obviously the choice as to whether or not to purchase a bead unseen is personal and do keep in mind that with 1111 made, there should still be stock when the bead starts to be unveiled. I’m assuming some retailers won’t be able to resist opening the box.

Personally I’m rather caught up in the excitement and intrigue of the whole affair but there haven’t been any Bead of the Month designs I have actively disliked. I was sceptical about the Wings of Protection, purely based on the inclusion of the baby and feeling it highly inappropriate for myself. After receiving it though, it now has pride of place on a moth inspired bracelet that is still both intact and on my wrist.

With three variations available I am pondering whether one finish will be particularly rare in comparison with the others (as we saw with the Ohm Beads Dirty Cock or Dark Luna for example.) Ultimately that information isn’t going to become apparent until collectors begin receiving their packages and breaking open those boxes. Personally I can already vision myself maniacally hitting boxes with sticks (Mike at Ohm’s suggestion by the way. I’m hoping to find a suitably large stick.)

Pre-orders for the Heart of Stone begin today and I’ll be adding and updating retailer lists as they begin to list their stock.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Ohm Beads Heart of Stone packaging? Have you made a decision as to whether to pre-order? Do you have any theories in regards to either what’s inside or what those finishes will be? Hit the comments and let me know!

So I am sure after we will all be scrambling to get this as soon as we see the first one. Payday is tomorrow so I will order one then. I wish we knew a bit more about what it is instead of what it is not. Since it is number 25 I believe I hope it is awesome. I do hope in the future Ohm will make bead of the month slightly more reasonably priced, the last few have been killer.

I’m hoping I have two or three coming to me because I just have a gut feeling there’s going to be one finish I really want (and this is just speculation, they won’t even tell me what’s in those boxes :p )

I suspect we’ve just had a run of expensive Bead of the Month charms rather than it being the “norm” but I guess time will tell 🙂

I’ll be interested to see what the bead is, but I will not be indulging in this BOTM. I can’t justify paying over $100.00 on a bead sight unseen and then I can’t even choose the finish I want. I’m a pretty simple person I prefer my beads silver. 🙂

    • endangeredtrolls

I was sort of hoping to get hold of one pre-release so I could do a live video unveiling but I don’t think it’s viable sadly. As soon as I *do* get hold of one (and honestly, I’m trying every option here,) I’ll take pictures of course.

      xoxo

Just wanted to say Thank You! for burning the midnight oil. I very much appreciate your details and a road map for procurement. xoxo

    • endangeredtrolls

Oh bless you <3 Thank you 🙂 It's always worth it when the effort it appreciated 🙂

Are you going to be getting one? 😀

      xoxo

  4. Marjan

Will I do or I will not do it ?-) I’ll do it!

I have pre-order The heart of stone <3.

I can not be fast enough 1st June, patience Marjan …. patience … 🙂

    • endangeredtrolls

      Yay!!! 😀 😀 😀

I’m so excited. I feel like a kid before Christmas I swear. I have no idea what’s in that box but I really really want to know 😀

My guess is Silver, Dirty, and either a vermeil or blush. While I don’t see super expensive beads becoming the norm, I do foresee more expensive beads on average than previously being the norm, with this bead and WOP being market tests of what the market will bear. WOP was super expensive, but sold out quickly on very limited quantities. $140 is nowhere as expensive, but it’s a great indicator of what their customer base will pay as it’s blind, meaning as pure sense of what people will pay for anything, with no idea of what they are buying. Prices have been steadily rising per gram at Ohm. Though Love Kills was large, it was very light for the size, though the price was high. I think Ohm is excellent at testing the waters on how much they can get, increasing profitability. Ohm Stuff conducted the first tests with the different combinations of desired beads packaged with lingering retired beads which hadn’t sold over the years even at 50% off, selling for quite hefty prices in buying frenzies. Excellent buyer research. Sadly the end point must be higher price points.

    • endangeredtrolls

I have a slightly different take but given I’m not privy to the inner workings of Ohm, it is just a theory.

Mike mentioned that Wings of Protection was very difficult for them to produce and that limited the quantities available drastically. If they have ideas of slightly more unusual designs then perhaps it’s less about testing what the marketing can handle in terms of price and more about putting out some ideas that they couldn’t otherwise do. Ohm’s limited editions are generally made in quantities to last a season or so I believe. If there’s a design they actually can’t make more than a few hundred of, perhaps the Bead of the Month idea is the way to try and realise that.

      Of course it’s just a theory 🙂

      • Nereida

I guess only time will tell. As a business person, I can see brilliant price testing. Can something that brilliant be an accident? I have full faith in Ohm’s creativity both in bead design, and business acumen. Out of all the bead companies, they are probably the most business savvy. They may not have the marketing dollars of Pandora, but they are quite sharp for their niche. I love BOTM. Whether I choose to purchase or not, I’m always excited for the next possibility.

        • endangeredtrolls

And I think that’s the way to be about it. If a design doesn’t suit you (be it price, theme, distribution?) Then look forward to what’s around the corner 😀 Although right now I think most of us just want to know what’s in that box 😉 😀

          xoxo

          • Nereida

Not to mention the anticipation is so much fun. I’m not buying the next one, but I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it. Ohm keeps us involved regardless of our choices. It’s really brilliant. I have complete respect for their marketing. They deserve the surge of success. They’ve worked hard for it.

          • endangeredtrolls

Oh they do a good job. Ohm are changing *so* much about the charm bracelet world 😀

            xoxo

  6. eMily

There’s a little voice in my mind wondering if maybe, just maybe, some of the secrecy is because there are new finishes of some of the coveted older heart designs (like Love Cage, Love Hurts, or Open Your Heart) included randomly amongst the blind boxes. Mostly I imagine that’s just wishful thinking, but due to the immense popularity of those designs, I expect this Heart of Stone will also be a winner. I am definitely going to preorder regardless, I simply ADORE this concept. And I really hope we see more similar blind releases (in the $40-60 range) in the not too distant future.

    • endangeredtrolls

I agree with you 100% Emily 😀 I’m just so excited for the box to arrive 😀 It’s pretty obvious that the distribution of this bead (and the pricing though I still believe we can’t judge the price until we’ve seen the bead,) has split the community but for certain some of us are enjoying all the hype and anticipation 😀

Oh my gosh I wish we actually did live closer. We could smash them open at the same time! 😀

      xoxo

  7. Katie

I’m on the fence at the moment. Very pricey for a ‘blind bead’. But, I’ve regretted not buying many of the BOM’s from the past. I was on vacation when the Wings of Protection sold out and I love it more every time that I see it. So, Maybe I’ll have a glass of wine and then pull the trigger….

    • Nereida

If it makes you feel any better, it sold out within minutes, so it probably wouldn’t have mattered where you were.

      • Katie

Actually, it does make me feel better. Thank you! And, it isn’t like I’d trade my vacation for anything. I got to chaperone a school trip with one of my daughters and we went to Germany, Czech Rep, Austria, and Switzerland. It was the chance and trip of a lifetime!

    • endangeredtrolls

Wings of Protection went *so* fast. I think it shocked most of us. I think it shocked Ohm too :O

      xoxo

  8. Nadja

I just pre-ordered one and will be muttering “please no blush/vermeil, please no blush/vermeil” until it arrives, driving myself and everyone around me crazy…
So far, I have liked all of Ohm’s heart designs and I will just trust them that this is good value for money. I think the blind distribution is fun (although I like my beads silver) – not so sure on the “no preview” thing. But it’s more of a calculated risk and not entirely uncertain – I am sure it will be unusual but in an Ohm kind of way. Or so I keep telling myself after just spending 130 €.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m *really* excited about the whole thing and I wish I had any idea at all about the variations – aside from knowing that there are three. That’s kinda the thing with me. I haven’t really *disliked* any of the Bead of the Month designs. Well.. I guess Holey Ham wasn’t really my thing but I’m a vegetarian and I’m quite certain this bead isn’t going to be “meaty” :p So I think regardless of what’s in there I’m quite safe on liking it. How much I’ll like it is the thing.. and whether there’s a version I want more than the others, who knows!

Either way roll on release day 😀

      xoxo

  9. Ilse

I read somewhere on the internet, and it seemed to be a reliable source, that the beads are all silver. The variation was said to be in parts being oxidized / not oxidized and shiny / not shiny. Of course I have no idea if this is true. I ordered one and am very curious too, of course.

    • endangeredtrolls

I have absolutely no idea 🙂 My information is always from Ohm Beads USA and they haven’t said anything about that but it could indeed be accurate! 🙂

      xoxo
