Ohm Beads Forbidden Fruit Review

This Ohm Beads blog brings a review of the upcoming Ohm Beads Forbidden Fruit, Bead of the Month for May 2018.

Launching on May the 1st is the Ohm Beads Forbidden Fruit as the Bead of the Month. It’s limited to two thousand two hundred and twenty two (2222) pieces with a retail price of $200, €182 or £152. The price point is higher than most Bead of the Month designs but it’s a two part set and a large design at that. Availability of this bead is still good and pre-orders are well underway.

Ohm Beads Forbidden Fruit

Forbidden Fruit comes packaged in a miniature wooden fruit crate which immediately has a real nostalgic charm to it. The design features a red enamel apple, minus one bite (and that is where you’ll find the hallmark and serial number) and the silver serpent which surrounds it. The pieces can be worn together or individually and Ohm have mentioned the snake can wrap around other glass beads. While that is true I’d just mention one word of warning in that it needs to be quite sizable glass. Most of my Trollbeads just get lost.

What follows is an extended bracelet version of a bangle I dabbled with when Forbidden Fruit was first announced. It uses the very crisp green of the Trollbeads Illusion with the dark reds of Hessonite Garnets. I debated all kids of silver beads; some to represent the Garden of Eden, others more to represent spring. In the end it’s a little bit of a mix of the two. The Ohm Beads OhmMyGod 1.0 Dirty is represented. Remember that is free on spends of $500 or more during Bead Bash on the Lake in just a couple of weeks. The newly released Ohm Beads Sunflowers makes an appearance, alongside Mamma Terra and the Caterpillar.

Ohm Beads Forbidden Fruit Pre-Orders

As mentioned pre-orders are underway but there isn’t too long until the release date. You can pre-order at any of the retailers detailed below. For reference the Hessonite Garnets and Illusion beads used here are now live over at Great Lakes Boutique.

Ohm Beads Forbidden Fruit Summary

I’ve always had a love hate relationship with enamel but this seems well executed. I personally feel the two beads are better together than apart as any glass or stone I’ve tried within the snake rattles around. It’s worth noting that the serpent can be worn on a ball necklace but the apple cannot.

For anyone who likes cute storage options, the apple crate packaging can accommodate the foam inserts that come in some of the larger Ohm Beads cardboard boxes. If you cut them down to being two by two instead of three by two, you can put two layers of beads in there. It works best with glass and it’s very cute. (Honestly I was debating begging Ohm for any left over crates to make myself a little apple crate storage mountain.)

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Ohm Beads Forbidden Fruit? Did you pre-order this bead? Hit the comments and let me know!

An apple crate storage mountain?:) That sounds good. I think your lovely bracelet shows off the real size and presence of the set. I’m still not sure if I want a red enamel bead, but am tempted to retake a look at this at bead bash. I also think that the set looks best and makes the most sense together, which is fine w me.

I really like this one. I am thinking greens and wood with just a pop of red. I wish I had bought all the wood beads. I only have 2 of them. Mother Nature and the ent will be worked in there too. Not too long now til the bash. I have my Ohm list ready. I hope you guys have lots of stock!
