Ohm Beads CustOhms Live Images (Batch One)

This Ohm Beads blog shares my own live images of (most of) the new Ohm Beads CustOhms. The beads featured are from batch one.

The Ohm Beads CustOhms are a new concept for the latter half of 2018. They’re limited edition sets of glass, available to retailers for a certain period of time. Batch one appeared in Europe a few weeks ago and finally arrived at Great Lakes Boutique this week. You can see an overview of this first series below. They all retail at $45.

Batch two are due around the middle of September and retail at $70. They’re both dichroic and faceted.

Last night I finally had time to sit down and take my own live images of the beads. If you want to see the potential variation (and there is a lot,) please check this article instead. Please note that we received neither Lakes nor Fern Ridge so those images are missing from this editorial.

My absolute favourite from batch one is the Ohm Beads Seeded Blue and you’ll be seeing a bracelet starring this bead over the course of this weekend. Do note that the “seed” details on all of these beads is very slightly glittery and they are beautiful in person. I originally stated these beads felt apt for summer. After seeing them this particular design reminds me of really crisp fall days; clear skies and falling leaves.

My second favourite is undoubtedly Seeded Papaya and I think this particular design is being overlooked a little. It’s going to be amazing for Halloween but the chances are high that by the time the holiday arrives, it will be long sold out. The orange glass on this bead is translucent so from some angles those seeds seem to float. It gives the glass a certain candied aesthetic to them which also fits well for Halloween. If you’re a fan of the holiday, don’t risk missing this design.

Next up is the Ohm Beads Seeded Fig and this has definitely proven popular with collectors. It’s a lovely soft grape shade. For those of you wanting to participate in the Ohm Beads Bad Dreams Promotion at Great Lakes, this is the design that complements Spring Refractions the best (and I’ll be sharing images of my own bangle later.)

The Seeded Rolinia has proven another community favourite though admittedly there isn’t a huge choice of yellow glass out there. Again the yellow part of this design is translucent which definitely adds an edible look to these beads. This colour is going to be perfect for autumn. The hint of sparkle works particularly well for this colour.

Seeded Salad is a very fresh feeling bead and would work beautifully with the old Frog Fantasticism.

Finally Seeded Dragon Fruit is a true version. Quite often red glass tends towards a more tomato orange shade but this isn’t the case with Dragon Fruit. This will be another that could work so well for future holidays as it’s a near perfect cranberry shade. Do think ahead for your future bracelets.

Moving away from the Seeded designs, the remaining are Bustling, Prudent and Optimistic. These are all abstract, semi-striped designs of colour. These are the three beads that are somewhat reminiscent of the old Rivers of Life series.

Bustling looks blue and black in the stock images but the black is actually a very dark purple for most of these beads. It’s very striking in person.

The Ohm Beads Prudent has proven popular with collectors too and is a very feminine mix of pink and white.

Optimistic is a bold mix of blue and red and another design that’s been very popular with collectors.

Ohm Beads CustOhms Summary

I have been really surprised by these beads in person. I’ve really welcomed the CustOhm idea but though maybe these were a little summery for my personal tastes. In person though I love them. After what felt like a shortage of Ohm Beads glass at the beginning of 2018, it’s also really nice to have such a selection available again.

Do take careful note of some of the colours as a few designs are going to be perfect for upcoming holidays. Of course by the time you’re planning those bracelets, these beads are likely gone and you risk paying secondary market prices. Two Seeded Dragon Fruit either side of Feast is lovely for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Two Seeded Papaya flanking Trick or Treat makes a great Halloween bangle.

Ooooo! I didn’t realize the seeds had sparkles! Your photos are so much better than the stock one. My fingers crossed for an orange one or better yet 2, during the bash.

They do indeed have sparkles! They’re quite subtle but definitely there 🙂
