Novobeads Summer 2013 Silk Wrap Review

This Novobeads blog brings a review of the Novobeads summer 2013 silk wrap, an alternative way to wear your beads and charms.

A couple of weeks ago the Novobeads summer 2013 collection debuted. While the entire collection is stunning, the highlight for me was undoubtedly the new Novobeads silk wraps. These offer a casual and on trend way in which to wear beads and charms. They’re particularly appealing during the summer months when heavy silver chains can feel uncomfortable during the heat. Indeed this year I’ve found myself shunning the traditional charm bracelets, opting instead for the new range of bangles that have debuted for 2013.

With tie-dye and dip-dye fabrics so popular for summer 2013, these wraps have been created to embrace this. I’m sincerely hoping that the Novobeads fall 2013 collection will bring deeper berry shades as I think this is a concept they should continue to support and expand upon.

I admit I found it difficult to select a colour for the new silk wraps. Ultimately I settled upon the summer sea silk with shades ranging from a pale ice blue colour down to mid, royal blue. With the popularity for oceanic themed beads and charms for the summer, it seemed an appropriate choice.

The silk wraps feature a tiny silver branded dangle charm. For those who really object to branded details, this can be removed by simply sliding it off the end of the silk.

When I first previewed this release, people were curious as to whether these wraps featured any kind of locking mechanism. Rather the ends are simply designed to be tied together around the wrist, making them incredibly simple to use and ensuring a casual look.

While obviously it’s the choice of the wearer as to how many charms to use on these bracelets, I personally feel they are most suited to just a few focal charms. I’ve been wearing mine with the new Novobeads crystal macaroons (review pending) and some of the mini cubic zirconia or signature crystal beads.

The beads will move around on the bracelet though it’s possible to knot the silk to hold them in place. I prefer not to do this purely because I find the smoother look much more attractive.

Earlier in the year, some lovely new shades of crystal beads debuted as part of the Novobeads spring 2013 collection. The following image shows the new silk wrap with two of these beads; plum crystal and sea green crystal.

Finally I’ve been teaming the wrap with my delicious Novobeads mini CZs.

Novobeads Summer 2013 Silk Wrap Summary

I was super enthusiastic about the concept of these silk wraps when they first debuted. After having the opportunity to wear one a little, I’m converted. These are lovely for the summer season and look equally fabulous worn with no charms at all. Teamed with a Noosa Amsterdam bracelet you have a complete boho-chic look.

    Hi Victoria,

I don’t think that I would trust this wrap to hold my beads safely, especially my precious OOAKs. And the wraps don’t look appealing without the beads. No locking mechanism, no go! I commend the innovation, but not for me.

      Hi Martha 🙂

It’s precisely the lack of locks that makes me love this release. They’re so super easy to put on and I don’t think they’d come unfastened at all. I love the wraps without charms but it’s definitely a matter of individual taste 🙂

      Kind Regards

Hello Victoria, I absolutely love these wraps and the macaroons too! They’re so fun, lightweight and perfect for summer. After reading your first post on them I jumped on the Internet and ordered the Twilight and Wild Rose wraps. I’m wearing the rose with a pair of the rose gold/ pink crystal macaroons flanking the Artic pebble and it’s my new favorite bracelet. This could become an addiction. At the moment, the Redbalifrog Igor the Bat has commanded pride of place on the Twilight wrap. Thanks so much for all the great information.

      Hi Sarah,

I’m also loving these for the summer. While I’m not a huge fan of putting a lot of charms on this type of bracelet, the crystal macaroons are so super light! 🙂 I’m definitely a huge huge fan 😀

      Kind Regards
      Victoria

    Hi Victoria,

I just sent you a pm on facebook because I wanted to add a picture. I love this bracelet I got the wild rose and combine it with the anniversary bracelet prism. It has the exact same colours. The bead stays perfectly in place even without knotting it on the sides an it wears very comfy. Thank you for this review!!

      Hi Shirley,

I love the wild rose version also. It makes me think I need them both 😉 I’m so happy how reasonably priced these are as I suspect they’ll become a bit of an obsession 😉

      Kind Regards
      Victoria
