Limited Edition Ohm Beads Nian Nian You Yu Preview

This Ohm Beads blog brings a complete preview of the upcoming and limited edition Ohm Beads Nian Nian You Yu, alongside the details of an Ohm Stuff event.

The Chinese New Year falls on February the 16th and Ohm are celebrating the occasion not only with a limited edition charm but also an online even hosted by the team at Ohm Stuff. Many of my readers already seem to be aware of the Ohm Beads Nian Nian You Yu but today brings the official preview and pre-orders!

Ohm Beads Nian Nian You Yu

The Ohm Beads Nian Nian You Yu is available in three different finishes; high shine silver ($65,) dirty ($65) or duo-tone vermeil ($80.) The silver version is exclusive to Ohm Stuff who’ll be hosting an online event on February the 2nd. The dirty and duo-tone vermeil versions are available via retailers globally but on a strictly made to order basis.

This is working in precisely the same way that the Dirty Paper Bag or duo tone Desk Globe orders were processed. Between today (January the 30th) and February the 4th you can place unlimited orders at participating retailers. Pre-orders will close at the end of February the 4th and retailers submit their orders to Ohm Beads. Delivery is then expected some time in April.

Ohm Beads Nian Nian You Yu Pre-Ordering

For those of you keen to pre-order, do remember the window of opportunity for this charm is really small. You can order via any of my retail partners detailed below:-

Ohm Beads Nian Nian You Yu Summary

I love the detailing on this charm and the duo-tone version is particularly striking I think, though as usual I love the dirty finish. For those of you pondering an Asian themed bracelet, which Teabag would be perfect for, this is an idea addition.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Ohm Beads Nian Nian You Yu? Which is your favourite version? Will you be participating in the Ohm Stuff event? Hit the comments and let me know!

I have the duo-tone ram and the finish comes off easily on the gold, but the duo tone is breathtaking. I ordered both types. I think I want tge high shine silver or half shine half dirty. Luckily the dirty shoud come off with elbow grease. Saw the picture on an inssrt and have been wondering where I could get this. I love the design. I also have Trollbeads gold/silver happy fish. I guess it’s a look I love. Hopefully tbis one will be larger.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes and there we’re back to the gold versus vermeil debate. The duo-tone version is spectacular in my opinion. Many years have passed since the two tone ram so I wonder if this will be more durable? Of course we all know that the only way to guarantee the gold colouring is to use solid gold but the price is then prohibitive for so many πŸ™ I loved the duo-tone Happy Fish but was always deterred by it’s size. I’m pretty sure this is larger. If you look at the images of it on the bracelet… it’s not a lot to judge on but I do think it looks a decent size which is great news.

  2. Heather

Yep, the Paper Bag event went so well lets do it again !!!!!!!!! (Yes I am being sarcastic)

    • endangeredtrolls

I think the Dirty Paper Bag pre-orders went very well for the retailers. As for the actual event… I dunno. I like to try and give people the benefit of the doubt and perhaps they’ve managed to fix the format or something this time. I guess the weekend will show

  3. Harley

So disappointed! The only version I would want is the silver and seeing as I don’t use Facebook I won’t have the opportunity to get one 😞 I also saw the Less than Three heart glass this morning that is also a “Facebook exclusive” I think that it’s so unfair to restrict certain beads to only being available to specific social media users.

    • Nereida

You can remove the dirty finish wkth a small amount of effoft and ghen yku wkhld have the sjlver fjnish you want. It isn’t a permanent finish.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m so sorry. For what it’s worth the dirty versions do not stay dirty. The more you wear them, the faster it fades. It’s not a plated finish of any kind. It’s very heavy oxidisation so it does wear away.

The exclusivity is due to the fact that this Ohm Stuff page are getting products no one else does and they only choose to sell on social media. Perhaps one day they’ll have an actual online store and open it up some πŸ™ I don’t know.

      • Nereida

Isn’t Ohm Stuff a division or part of, owned by Ohm Beads?

        • endangeredtrolls

Honestly I have no idea. I thought it was Ohm Beads, particularly given the kind of items they get. Then I was told they were a retailer but one without an online store. Now I have absolutely no idea. Maybe a little of both πŸ™‚

I think you’d need to ask Ohm or the team at Ohm Stuff themselves.

          • Lisa G

Of course they are part of ohm beads, but may technically be spun off into a different legal business entity. That said, I don’t like the dirty version but I do like the 2 tone. It would look nice on a bangle or bracelet where it could fall sideways, which is a lovely view. As for the all silver, imo it’s the nicest for the oxidized detail, but I don’t do ohm events. Ever. May consider the 2 tone.

          • Lisa G

Just ordered the 2 tone. I think it’s a special bead.

  4. Lynne

I like this bead but I only like the high shine silver. Since I’m not on social media, Ohm Stuff is not an option. I may get the dirty version and try to shine it up if that is possible. I guess I have a few days to think about it.

    • endangeredtrolls

The dirty finish does also just wear off on it’s own over time. Trust me on that. And the more you wear it, the faster it will fade. You can speed the process along though πŸ™‚

  5. Kim

That is a very attractive charm, and I especially like the duo-tone version. I like that Ohm does their duo-tone beads in vermeil, keeping them affordable. My bead funds this month have gone toward chasing retiring True Beadz, so I’ll have to take a close look to see whether this is doable. It’s a pity the order window is so short.

  6. Katie

I admit that my favorite is the shiny silver one. So, I’ll be online trying my best. I will try not to get as sucked in as I got for the Dirty Moves, which left me frustrated (at myself, they were doing their best). It is wonderful that they are allowing orders of the other finishes until 2/4. That way, if someone utterly fails at the Facebook party, they still have time to pick up the others. It is a lovely design and it would be a shame to miss it.

  7. Neve

I prefer the silver, but I dislike trying to “win” to buy it. I’ll consider possibly the dirty, because I’m a Pisces.

  8. Pippa

    I love this!!!!
And I do think they are taking positive action to avoid a repeat of the Paperbag Fiasco.
Having three finishes available and announced from the start is very different then what was done with Paperbag. Only one of which involves jumping thru hoops on social media and getting lucky. And as others have noted a dirty bead can be cleaned πŸ™‚

Plus they have made some adjustments since The Night Before Beadmas event, which I thought was pretty awful too. Currently Ohm Stuff is “selling” a limited edition (111 total) glass bead “I Less Than Three You” for Valentine’s Day. It seems pretty fair. Each day they post a question after 24 hours they pick three names who then have oppurtunity to purchase. You can only win/buy one and must respond within 24 hrs or they pick another name. Plus by having a specific question that has to be answered they avoid the problem with programs written to respond automatically to all posts.

In addition now when Ohm Stuff posts the opportunity to buy things to the quickest respondents they now specify a certain word and will not except edited posts, again trying avoid problem with programs written to respond automatically to all posts.

I think these steps really show that Ohm has been listening and are trying to make these types of events more fair and particularly giving those who don’t want to participate the ability to order the bead from retailers from the get go would take care of most gripes, I’d think.

Also, I do think Ohm Stuff is somehow part of Ohm – under “About” their website is the Ohm main website. Also, I believe this was made clear at some point in a post on one of the FB pages in the last couple months but don’t remember where. Assuming it is the case, I don’t know why they aren’t more transparent about it and it’s just the type of thing that pisses people off.

As for the bead – I love it!!! For me it immediately brings to mind Trollbeads Happy Fish which in gold and sliver is one of my favorite beads ever. This looks a lot bigger though and with more detail. Though I’m curious as to what it looks like on the other side and how it really looks upright on it’s side on a bracelet with other beads. It’s hard for me to tell.

I immediately ordered the vermeil and silver version but after reading to comments above I’m wondering if that was a bad choice. I din’t realize there have been issues with their vermeil. Does it really wear off easily? πŸ™

Btw, Nereida, I love the idea of one dirty fish and one shiny fish and am wondering how hard it would be to do. I think a Dremel has polishing bits that might make it easier but full disclaimer I haven’t used mine since I stopped making jewelry with PMC almost 10 years ago. And it might be a disaster.

    • Nereida

I think the speed of wearing off has to do with body chemistry, though to be honest, my Rebeligion rose gold plated skulls have barely rubbed off after years of use. As for removing the dirty finish, if you park yourself in front of a good movie or show, you won’t even notice you’re working hard and it won’t take long at all. I am tempted to try lacquer coating. IDK.

  9. Karin

I truly wish they would photograph the beads next to a ruler. I was surprised once again with how small a bead is.

I’d happily buy this bead or a couple, but not if I have to use reading glasses and a magnifying glass to see it. (I usually don’t need reading glasses.)

    • Nereida

That’s how I feel about small beads.

  10. Ria

I would really like the shiny silver version but I don’t want to go nuts trying to get it. I may just preorder the 2 tone version as that’s my second favorite.

  11. Steph

I prefer the silver but I refuse to play games on Facebook just for the opportunity to buy. I probably won’t order either other option so they’ve lost a sale. I just don’t understand why Ohm continues to make their customers jump through crazy hoops. The vast majority of comments on here are negative as far as their planned distribution of silvers via Facebook. I used to think Ohm was different and really listened to their customers. Now I’m not so sure. πŸ˜•

    • Nereida

I am under the impression that distribution is by lottery, so a lot fairer.

  12. Jenifer Hicks

So I’m trying the OHM Stuff thing on Facebook and it is annoying as hell. A random pick would be fun. 1st to post is absurd and makes me feel like a trained seal.

    • endangeredtrolls

      I’m so so sorry πŸ™

I wish there was anything I could do to help πŸ™ Do remember that if you can order the dirty or two tone finish from retailers instead.

      • Jenifer Hicks

I know there isn’t anything you can do. I think they are trying to make it fair, they put a limit on – 5 wins per person. It just isnt fun for me. Might be related to my deep dislike of the pushing and shoving in crowds.

    • Katie

They did have a couple that will be randomly picked. If you can, go back and try to find those. But, yes, the best that I’ve gotten is in the 40s.

      • Jenifer Hicks

I entered at least one of those and am glad they did that. I do think they are trying to be fair. And that some people enjoy the hunt or the rush of trying to be first.

        • Katie

I must admit, I can’t figure out how people get in so quickly. By the time that I get the update and click, there are already at least 40 ahead of me. I even went through a different browser and closed everything else out. And, that did nothing to improve my speed. I’m just about done. It has been 2 hours and I’m no closer.

          • Pippa

I know it seems impossible. I think Ohm Stuff is trying to do everything they can to make it fair but it seems like some computer experts wrote better bots and the efforts to defeat the bots actually just slowed down the people who had to read the posts. And I wonder if they somehow have access to faster internet. And credit to Ohm stuff for adjusting to rules mid-event and also adding some purchase lotteries.

          • endangeredtrolls

I don’t really know what to say anymore.

I also think Ohm Stuff are trying to improve things but at this point – if I were them – I’d be tempted to say “enough is enough” and rethink entirely. I don’t understand the mentality of repeating something that’s causing such a huge amount of upset.

Selling via social media – and I speak from experience here – isn’t fun. There are so many potential issues with it and that’s ignoring the simple fact that their demand is outweighing supply.

There is never going to be a perfect solution to trying to divide up too few charms amongst too large a number of customers. Someone is going to be upset. Of course it’s easy to say that Ohm can just increase the production runs (and actually they have) but for whatever reason they are still too low. Maybe that’s by design. Maybe it’s the team at Ohm Stuff wanting to be safe and make sure they aren’t left with excess stock (remembering of course that they have to pay for those beads.) An investment of 333 pieces is still pretty large for a small business. Maybe they’re trying to grow slowly.

I do know I’ve woken up to a lot of messages and emails and I have absolutely no answers for anyone. I just know if I was Ohm Stuff, I’d really be wanting to rethink this.. πŸ™ You can’t make everyone happy so you try and make as many happy as is possible.

          • Katie

Sadly, I actually think that Ohm did everything that they could to make it a fun, fair event. And, somehow, even their best intensions and efforts somehow still didn’t work. I really have no idea how people got in so quickly. Yet, I see the same names at the top of multiple offerings. I would have thought that changing the key word would have stopped the bots, but I guess there are bots that can work around? Ohm even limited the amount that could be won, which was nice. I find it rather sad, because I think that Ohm tries to make things fun and I think that they like the direct communications with their customers at these events. I am glad that they have offered different finishes of the bead, at least I will be able to have one, even if it isn’t my favorite finish. It is a lovely design.

  13. Tina Parker

I immediately loved this because it will go with my Trollbeads Happy fish, so I ordered the vermeil and silver immediately on the website Great Lakes Boutique. Something happened during the order process and I didn’t receive my preorder confirmation, but the money has processed through my bank. I contacted them and haven’t received confirmation that the preorder is in place! Because there was a specific time frame to preorder I am afraid I have missed the boat….. Argh.

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi,

I’ll send you an email shortly

      • Tina Parker

        Thank you πŸ’•
