Happy St Patrick’s Day with an Ohm Beads Leprechaun Review

This Ohm Beads blog article offers an in depth review of the Ohm Beads Leprechaun charm, newly debuted for St Patrick’s Day 2013.

Just a couple of weeks ago I offered a preview of a new release from Ohm Beads; the Leprechaun charm. This is a perfect example of the Ohm Beads brand for me. Their charms are detailed, sometimes cute and boast characteristic humour. Ohm Beads are a brand that are in their relative infancy and yet already show evolution in their design. Even accounting for this, they don’t take themselves too seriously and many of the charms show a deep rooted sense of humour.

St Patrick’s Day celebrations are growing in popularity year after year and I was really delighted to see Ohm Beads honour this holiday in their own unique style.

For the benefit of new readers or those who are unfamiliar with the brand, Ohm Beads are fully compatible with all major bead and charm brands, including Pandora.

The bead itself depicts a cheerful little leprechaun clutching an armful of gold bars.

He’s quite a chute and chubby little guy with a small amount of enamel detailing used on his hat, both by way of a black band and a discrete and appropriate green shamrock.

With Ireland affectionately referred to as the Emerald Isle, the obvious colour scheme for any St Patrick’s Day celebrations is green. With this in mind, I created three bracelets for this article, all centred around this vibrant and crisp colour.

The first creation is a wholly green bracelet. It feels very crisp and fresh for early spring when new shoots boast such vivid shades. I chose appropriately themed silvers where possible and the result is an incredibly eye catching combination.

For the second bracelet, I opted to mix in some orange and coral hued beads in honour of the Irish flag.

Regular readers will be aware that green isn’t my favourite colour. Indeed I’d go as far as to explain that it’s really quite far out of my comfort zone. It’s certainly never a colour I’d wear in my clothes. With this in mind, for the final bracelet, I opted to underpin the vibrant greens with some beautifully neutral cream shades. For me, it just takes the edge off the combination a little and makes it a more wearable bracelet.

Ohm Beads Leprechaun Summary

This design shows the typical humour of Ohm Beads. It’s a cute and slightly caricatured character bead with a chubby shape. There is a flash of green on the bead but it’s subtle enough that it doesn’t demand a green bracelet for use. Touching on versatility, while the bead has obviously been designed for St Patrick’s Day, I think it offers plenty of use during the course of the year, particularly those with a love of the Emerald Isle.

From the bracelets themselves, I particularly liked the green and cream combination. It just took the edge off the green for me and also gave me the opportunity to play with some beautiful cream beads.

From recent discussions here at Endangered Trolls, it became apparent that a portion of readers were struggling to really form an opinion on Ohm Beads based on the fact I’ve mixed them so heavily with other brands. The bracelets that feature here today, hopefully, showcase Ohm a little more comprehensively as more of their own glass work is featured. Rest assured however, I’ve taken the feedback on board and I’ll attempt to rectify this in the near future.

As always I love to hear from my readers. Do you celebrate St Patrick’s Day and more to the point, have you created a themed charm bracelet? Do you like the Ohm Beads Leprechaun and is it perhaps on your wish list? Which of the bracelet combinations did you prefer? Did the fact that more Ohm Beads glass beads were utilised here help you form more of an opinion of the brand at all? If so, did any pieces specifically stand out? Hit the comments and let me know!

Lastly, for those of you celebrating today, have a wonderful time and raise a glass of Guiness for all your charm collecting friends!

You created some lovely bracelets, Victoria! I am a big fan of green, so I love the green bracelet. πŸ™‚ I usually celebrate St. Patrick’s day, but am skipping it this year, due to a variety of reasons. But I miss it! I usually sit the crock pot on the deck and make a batch of corned beef and cabbage outside, because my Italian fiancee and his two girls can’t stand the smell. πŸ™‚ (I’m sure my neighbors think I’m crazy, but that’s alright!)

I am very happy with all of the Ohm beads that I have purchased, and I have mixed them with trollbeads, redbalifrog, and even the occasional pandora bead. I have a few of the Ohm “lux” beads – I don’t know if they are actually glass or not, it is really difficult to tell for some reason, but I love the swirly finish on them. And I always wear the owl (beautiful!) and the live long and prosper bead. The owl is a bit darker in finish than most Ohm beads, but it is perfect for the owl feathers.

As it happens, my favorite Christmas charms are all Ohm beads – the carolers, the snowflake, Mr. And Mrs. Claus, and the gingerbread man. These beads are perfect, I think, with the Trollbeads glass Christmas set in reds and greens, from last year. The sizes go well together, as I am sure can be seen in your photos! πŸ™‚

I have not put together a bracelet of all Ohm beads, but maybe I will be industrious one day and take apart the mixed bracelets, to see how Ohm look all together. I love how afforadable they are too. πŸ™‚

      Hi Jennifer πŸ™‚

Well Happy St Patrick’s Day anyway πŸ˜€ Unfortunately it’s vile here today πŸ™ We have a blizzard due to hit in the middle of the night and aside from it already being bitterly cold outside, we have very strong winds πŸ™

I received some of the lux beads in my latest delivery and I have to say, I really like them. I agree it’s difficult to discern what they actually “are” but they’re stunningly pretty! The Owl, as you said, is quite a dark finish for Ohm Beads but I really like it – and I think this is a charm that could appeal to many Trollbeads collectors precisely due to the oxidisation πŸ™‚

I’m determined to try and feature some Ohm Beads bracelets in their entirety – hopefully in the not too distant future – as it seems this is quite a common request among my readers and will hopefully help them to gain more of an opinion of the brand. With that though, it’s so great to receive feedback from ladies like you regarding your opinion! I know many readers like to hear what other collectors think about the products so it’s so kind of you to comment πŸ™‚

      Kind Regards
      Victoria

Ohm is becoming my new fave addiction! πŸ™‚ Looking at your beautiful charms though, I think I prefer the pot of gold over the leprechaun. To me if it wasn’t for the green in his adorable little hat he almost doesn’t look like a leprechaun. He is still cute though! πŸ™‚

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi Ashley,

The Pot of Gold is super cute. I loved it when it first arrived but I’ve been saving it for St Patrick’s Day πŸ˜‰ I’m not a green person at all but I rather liked this bracelet πŸ˜€ Some of the Ohm glass beads were beautiful to play with πŸ™‚

      Kind Regards
      Victoria
