Great Lakes Boutique Krossed Preview

This charm bracelet blog brings a full preview of the upcoming Great Lakes Boutique Krossed bead, the official launch of the first in house bead design.

September is a busy month for us at Great Lakes Boutique as our most ambitious event to date falls at the end of the month. Each time we host Bead Bash on the Lake we come away having learned new things to apply to the next event. For fall we have a larger inventory than ever before and are endeavouring to offer as much of the event experience to our online shoppers as we can, barring beads we’re prohibited from retailing online.

Aside from all of the event beads, we’re welcoming two new brands for the fall season; Henhousebeads and Palace of Amber. Further to that comes the official launch of the first Great Lakes Boutique bead. Krossed will launch on September the 29th and will be available in store and online. It is not a limited edition and will retail at $55.

Great Lakes Boutique Krossed

This design will be familiar to some people. It was originally produced in platinum a couple of years ago and it’s been a permanent feature on my own bangle ever since. Krossed was designed by Mike at Great Lakes and given that it’s understandably a bead very close to our hearts. For the fall season we wanted to offer Krossed to a larger audience and of course to make it accessible for more people, it needed to be produced in silver.

In Krossed you’ll find both a timelessly elegant but contemporary feeling design. Mine has been worn as the focal on my bangles for nearly two years. It’s abstract so you aren’t committed to a theme and it’s universally cored so you aren’t tied to a specific branded bracelet either. The bead is hallmarked as sterling silver and we’ve kept our own branding to a minimal, you’ll find a GLB hallmark on one outer edge, invisible when worn alongside other beads.

Please note this is the iconic Trollbeads silver bracelet used as the carrier (and indeed in most of my photography.)

Great Lakes Boutique Krossed Summary

It’s been a long journey since the first few editions of Krossed were made in platinum to them being released ins silver. Those of you who have met me in person and seen my wrists or my own jewellery will know this is never missing. It’s such a wearable piece and it’s design makes it incredibly comfortable, even on days when jewellery might not feel so practical.

More recently I’ve been wearing it with the limited edition Palace of Amber Black Rutilated Quartz for quite a gothic looking bangle combination that I hope some of you might join me in wearing for Halloween this year! I’ll have those images up on the blog later this week.

For now I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Great Lakes Boutique Krosssed? Hit the comments and let me know!

  1. Debbie

Always admired this on your own bangles. You summed it up with timeless. Want to see the Halloween bangles though please!

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes! Sorry! Hopefully later this week πŸ˜‰ It’s Halloween in a very grown up way I suppose πŸ˜‰ But definitely a great combination πŸ™‚ I’m so pleased you love the bead πŸ™‚

  2. Jane

I don’t know what else to say than: “LOVE IT” <3

    • endangeredtrolls

Thank you πŸ™‚ We hope a lot of people will πŸ˜€

  3. Lisa G

I’m just glad Mike is going to start making beads!

    • endangeredtrolls

Glad to hear you like it πŸ™‚

  4. Pat

This bead has fascinated me, since I first saw it on one of your bracelets and I’ve wanted one for myself. So glad that it us now available in sterling and that it is not a limited edition.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m so pleased to hear that πŸ™‚ It’s a really lovely design πŸ˜€

  5. Christine

Ooooh, I like this. It would pair well with Pandora’s Galaxy bead with the added bonus of it not having the fussy CZs.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah the thing with CZs in my opinion is that they are love or loathe. This is going to sound like I’m throwing people into boxes but traditionally it always felt that the Pandora collectors loved CZs (for the most part) and the Trollbeads collected dislike them (for the most part.)

In some designs I think they can bring a lot to it. In others I think they add nothing at all to a design or even (as you said) make it needlessly fussy.

      Though I do like Pandora’s Galaxy πŸ™‚

  6. Katie

Yes!!! Excellent news! It seems like I’ve loved that bead for years. I’m so happy that it will be available – and at an do-able price. This event will be wonderful.

    • endangeredtrolls

It has been years!! Two actually since Krossed first appeared in platinum and over that time we’ve all had countless questions about it. Of course it’s beautiful in platinum but too prohibitive for many so here it is πŸ™‚ And we didn’t want to make it limited for multiple reasons. The only caveat I should add is that production does take a little time. There are times it could be marked as out of stock but it will be replenished. I hope that makes sense πŸ™‚ (We really can’t predict the initial demand for it so guessing how much stock to have was a bit of a shot in the dark πŸ˜‰ )

      • Katie

I hate to say, but I don’t mind waiting. The bead is lovely and isn’t ‘seasonal’ by any stretch of the imagination. If the bead is really good, it is worth the wait. Nice to hear that it isn’t limited. And, that it will be restocked, eventually.

  7. Dona Vesta

Hooray!!! I have always loved this bead – contemporary and elegant. Thank you Mike and all of the team at GLB also for making this bead attainable and not an LE.

    • endangeredtrolls

That was the idea. While charm bracelets are of course designed to be switched around… we wanted a really timeless, versatile design that was still felt modern. We really hope a lot of people love it πŸ™‚

  8. Elisabetta

Thank you GLB for not falling down the LE rabbit hole!

    • endangeredtrolls

Well we do have limited editions at the event but with some designs it can’t be avoided.

Trollbeads offer event beads to help make those in store occasions special.

With glass for any brand continuously producing is quite a commitment. Silver is a little easier in some ways but where do you draw a line? Beads are made in batches so when do you know to stop? And how many? :O

The ideal scenario is of course to produce exactly how many are wanting for a certain release. It never works that way.. there’s always people months down the line who are new and missed it and no one can predict the exact demand for a bead πŸ™

It’s such a difficult line to tread for the brands and the retailers alike. At the same time there’s clearly some limited edition fatigue out there in the community.

  9. Clarebear

I’m finding it hard to keep up with bead world. I log on Facebook 2 or 3 times a week and always to news about a new limited bead. Its taking the fun away. This week the whole True Beadz catalog is limited? Blegh. Though realistically its no change.

This might be the only bead I buy from any fall event πŸ™‚

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi πŸ™‚

I’m really sorry that you’re feeling that way. I know it’s a lot to keep pace with, especially if you’re collecting all the brands. My best advice has always been to buy what you love and not because something is limited.

I am happy to hear that you like Krossed though πŸ™‚

  10. Martha Olavarrieta

That’s awesome news!!! It’s a gorgeous bead. I hope Mike continues, and creates other designs in the future.

    • endangeredtrolls

It is very lovely and it just works with everything πŸ™‚

  11. Samantha Cardimon

So THAT’S where that bead came from! It’s really lovely and I always coveted that on your bangle. So, hooray! Very excited about this. Hope this is the first of many from GLB!

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah it’s been a permanent feature on my wrist for a couple of years πŸ˜€

  12. Marey Madigan

Will this bead be available at the Bead Bash? I love the design. The simplicity and abstract design make it one of those versatile beads that can and does go with anything…

    • endangeredtrolls

Yes it’s launching simultaneously in store and online on the 28th.

      • Marie

Victoria – please clarify when this bead will launch, the article and comment immediately above conflict. I’m thinking this, as well as another previously mentioned event bead (sorry, I can’t remember which one at the moment) might both delay their launches until the second day of the event?

        Hope all is well!

  13. Jamie

This bead is beautiful and I’m so excited for you guys! It’s a wonderful bead that I can see matching with many other brands and like you said it’s not limited to design. It’s a good price and I actually wana buy two but I’m strapped as it is for TBATB with my budget 😣 Will these be available beyond your event as a permanent piece to purchase?

Even though I’ll probably never be able to visit in person I get excited with each post you add about your event. It’s just so great to know there are such wonderful stores on the east coast that make such an effort for all these brands. Really brings everyone together and gives us an amazing treat a few times a year πŸ˜„ You guys rock!

  14. Renee

Love the design and love the price point. I only purchase what I “LOVE” . This will be one I am putting on my must have wish list not just the wish wish list.
I won’t be able to attend the bash- Puppy charm school/ obedience class takes priority but be sure I will be at the computer for the on line event listings!
