ACA Kreations Bead of the Rising Sun for Great Lakes Boutique

This charm bracelet blog officially unveils the ACA Kreations Bead of the Rising Sun for Great Lakes Boutique.

Today I have the absolute pleasure of unveiling the first of the event beads for the upcoming Bead Bash on the Lake, the bi-annual multi-brand occasion hosted by Great Lakes Boutique. To date we’ve confirmed the weekend will see our very first Trollbeads event bead, the latest True Beadz exclusive design and the first ACA Kreations event bead. It’s the latter I’m focusing on today. This bead is so very special not just because the design is amazing but it’s the first time Alex has agreed to anything like this.

Though I’ve had the privilege of watching this bead develop over the past few months, it only actually arrived with me yesterday. I’ve learnt over the years that nothing quite prepares you for finally holding a finished product in hand. You can see waxes and sketches and they’re all fabulous but you still don’t get a real sense of a piece until it’s infront of you. That’s precisely how I felt yesterday when I finally held this bead.

ACA Kreations The Bead of the Rising Sun for Great Lakes Boutique

The first ACA Kreations for Great Lakes Boutique design is called The Bead of the Rising Sun. I’d already hinted that we’d see Alex return to his love Japanese design and those of you who have followed his work for a number of years will see elements of earlier creations, yet with a precision that has only come through more years of experience.

As the name suggests the sun detailing is from the Imperial flag. At the very top of the bead you’ll notice detailing reminiscent of the long retired ACA Kreations Clouds. Beginning at the base and extending up the bead is raised water details evocative of the now iconic ACA Kreations Waves. (Alex and myself also share an appreciation for the Great Wave off Kanagawa.)

The bead is 2 centimetres in length and it’s substantial in it’s weight. For those of you who struggle to really visualise dimensions, it’s near identical in size to the now retired ACA Kreations Sakura Barrel.

ACA Kreations The Bead of the Rising Sun for Great Lakes Boutique Summary

The bead will launch in store on Friday May the 4th. It will then be available for the entire event weekend (May the 4th, 5th and 6th.) It will retail at $165.

If any remain after the event weekend, they’ll be made available exclusively via the Great Lakes Boutique website, though I think the chances of them being online is remote. There are no phone orders, no Facebook orders and no pre-orders. If you want this bead it’s imperative you be there.

Remember our events have no ticket requirements, we negotiate reduce room rates at the Residence Inn Mentor (the same place the event is held) and lunch and refreshments are provided throughout the day. We try our absolute best to make this event as accessible to everyone as possible, something that’s incredibly important to us. Further to that we’re the only multi-brand event that can bring together this array of artists. Once again brand representatives include Alex of ACA Kreations, Mike and Jenny of Ohm Beads USA, the team from Trollbeads USA and Julia and Alexey of True Beadz.

For reference this time around we’ve also confirmed the fall event dates as September the 28th, 29th and 30th, in order to give people as much preparation time as is possible.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the exclusive ACA Kreations for Great Lakes Boutique Bead of the Rising Sun? Will you be at Bead Bash? Hit the comments and let me know!

Absolutely in love with this design. Alex does not disappoint. One of the reasons I will be schlepping all the way from New York to Ohio…Stunning Alex.

Curious if Trollbeads ever does an event bead for GLB?

  2. Gene

I don’t even know….this is just so good! But I figured it would be. I won’t be able to go and I’ll be shocked if there’s any left afterward.

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m so sorry you can’t attend ๐Ÿ™ And yes, the bead is breathtaking. If there are any remaining at the end of the weekend we’ll get them online but I just don’t see it happening ๐Ÿ™

  3. Liseth

This looks absolutely amazing. When I saw the sneak peaks I thought โ€œeh, looks a bit boringโ€. I was wrong. I will drive out to Ohio for this bead just like I drove out for the dragon and Phoenix. I will abandon my child, my husband, and my job for this bead….. ok well not that dramatic, but for three days to be at the bash yes Iโ€™ll leave them ๐Ÿ˜œ

    • endangeredtrolls

That’s great news! It’s so wonderful that you’re joining us again ๐Ÿ™‚

With the numbers available, it’s going to be the only way to get it I think so I’m so happy for you ๐Ÿ˜€

It really is beautiful in person. I got to watch the wax carving and the whole thing develop but you never quite get a feel for the piece until you see it. It’s incredible and there’s a lot of texture. All the wave detailing is so tactile!

    • Pippa

Liseth, your post made me laugh but also made my my heart clench. I am going too (I keep having to tell myself this so I stay committed.) I’m trying not to be too dramatic myself but do worry about abandoning my child and husband for various reasons. I really want to come for the whole event and still need to figure out how to ensure that can happen with out anything horrible happening. See, now who sounds dramatic but both are ADHD and if anything goes wrong my DH has a way of making it so much worse. He can NOT be late to work, at all. And they are going on their first camping trip with the Cub Scouts – it’s just one night but there is so much to organize and bring and just full of potential pitfalls. Oh, and my child’s birthday is the 5th. I just keep telling myself that it is okay to take one weekend for me.

      • Liseth

Iโ€™m sorry to hear this. You need to take this time for yourself though. You canโ€™t devote yourself to your family with so much stress in your heart. You can cause more harm than good. You need to reboot yourself and enjoy your time at the bash! In a blink of an eye youโ€™ll be back home taking care of business.

        • Pippa

Thanks! I keep reminding myself of that but it helps to hear from someone else ๐Ÿ™‚

          • Lisa G

Yes, come! It will be fun!

  4. Paula, Gravesend

Love it! Really hope some will be left over for those of us over the other side of the world.

    • endangeredtrolls

If there are any left at the end of the weekend, we’ll get them up online ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Alicia S

This looks so awesome! I bet a few of us will be shopping for accent glass beads! ๐Ÿ’•

    • endangeredtrolls

At least there’s good time to plan ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Pippa

Alicia, if you haven’t done so, check out the ACA Kreations facebook page or website…

  6. Elizabeth (Lizzie)

That’s really beautiful. I may not shop with Great Lakes or even look at their sales from now on though because I kinda feel this is BS to show off this stuff and then basically say Nyah, Nyah, can’t have it unless you come to our party. Jmo

    • endangeredtrolls

I’m sorry you feel that way. All ACA pieces are limited to between 100-200 usually because of the way Alex works. It’s also part of the beauty of what he does.

When there are so few of them, we have to prioritise those travelling to be in store.

Plenty of stores make event beads exclusive to their in store attendees before offering them online. Unfortunately it’s really the only way to handle issues when demand is going to outweigh supply

      • Tanya

I understand that people really want it, but it IS an event bead. From the attendeesโ€™ perspective, I get irritated when I take the time and expense to travel to events, just to see people all over the world with the same beads a few weeks later. Event beads are just that, made for the events. Iโ€™d rather them be limited in number for the effort and expense of attending. Last yearโ€™s TBG longevity bead was all over the place and I spent a small fortune going to and at the event. I wonโ€™t be going this year since I realized I can save money on gas, hotel and local taxes by simply buying online like everyone else since there are always leftovers. Honestly, Iโ€™m glad these are exclusive, and while I understand some frustration, I wouldnโ€™t expect to be able to get limited edition event beads from Europe for the same reasons.

    • Nereida

To be honest, a good chunk of us are trekking there only because we can’t get this bead any other way. It is also probably the only way they can guarantee that those of us who do make the trek get the bead. You can’t fault a company for wanting to ensure a good attendance at their party or ensure those at the party aren’t disappointed. On the flip side, with all the customers around the world that want this bead and won’t be there, how many would complain if they went online and were snapped up in seconds. It is premature to have the notion that if they sold online too, you would be able to get one. You would probably still be upset.

      • endangeredtrolls

Yes. Essentially there is no solution here that sees us make everyone happy. If we put ALL of the stock online and completely ignored those of you in store, there wouldn’t be enough. Some would be upset and angry

If we put half of the stock online and half in store. There wouldn’t be enough. Some would be upset and angry.

For most of our inventory we split it right down the middle and set half aside for online. That alone is something most events do not do. We try out absolute best. (And again, we know, with some beads there still isn’t enough.)

With this design there would never be the supply to satisfy everyone. I guess we could take the route that if we can’t have enough, maybe we just don’t bother but that’s a very sad decision to need to take ๐Ÿ™

For this design we have to prioritise those in store.

    • Pippa

It’s a hard situation all around. I know from some other events online and in stores how maddening it is to have these beads advertised knowing you have basically no shot at getting one. It does feel at times like it’s being rubbed in your face. I hesitated to over sympathy b/c I think I’m going to get to go but I’m an Ohm fan and I feel like I am constantly missing out on beads. And I’m still trying not to be bitter about the True Beadz retirement shocker and the lack of inventory which was a problem even before. And then they add another retailer and the Dangle of the Month. It sucks when there aren’t enough beads to go around. ๐Ÿ™

      • Nereida

True, but when they are handmade artisan beads, I understand that it cannot be any other way. Artists are not our slaves. When they are factory made beads produced in artisan quantities, I find it a distasteful marketing ploy proving little actual caring for the happiness of customers. I am extremely grateful for the abundant notice Great Lakes has given us so that we don’t miss out. Other than not producing jaw dropping handmade pieces, I don’t see what else Great Lakes can do to not leave customers wanting. I do fear that if any are left over and go online there will be much grumbling and bad feelings. This is, in my humble opinion, one of Alex’s best pieces.

        • Pippa

I know you are right and that there is no solution. I just think it’s okay for people to be disappointed. And understand the frustrations. I don’t think that GLB is mishandling the situation or that Alex (or other artists) can just make more beads. I thinkI don’t think it’s anyones fault or even unfair. But I understand wanting to vent disappointment and frustration about a situation you don’t like. Admittedly, I’m really just seeing as venting as I might do and didn’t really focus on the criticism of a great retailer. GLB continues to go out of their way to provide amazing service to their online shoppers and include them in events – much more so then any other charm bead retailer I know. I was only reacting to the venting and not considering the blaming. It’s okay to be upset that one won’t be able to get the bead but blaming is not fair.

        • endangeredtrolls

Thank you for the kind words <3 We always try

  7. Katie

Lovely bead. I’m slightly (Ok, probably an understatement) jealous of those fortunate enough to attend and get this bead. But, I know that it is not possible to have all of the beads that you like, even if you had the resources to fund wish lists. Congrats to those who can buy. And, maybe a bit of hopeful wishes that they will be some leftover and I will be lucky enough to trip over them. I look forward to living vicariously through some live images of the bead…

    • endangeredtrolls

If there are any left we’ll be sure to announce that online – alongside a time they’ll go live ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Katie

Sounds great. And, I already know, if I can survive not being about to buy Dragon and Phoenix, I can survive not getting this one, either…

        • Katie

oopps.. Able, not about. Darn these hands.

  8. Pippa

The bead is just stunning. Even more so seeing it from all angles. I really am in awe.

    • endangeredtrolls

Videos are now on Instagram ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. Lisa G

Ok. This is one of the nicest beads I’ve seen. Ever. Am stunned by it (perhaps not a good mental picture for everyone else).

    • endangeredtrolls

      Yes, it’s truly amazing ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Tami

It really is so beautiful. Alex’ S skill seems to grow with every piece he produces. I appreciate that he shares his talent with the rest of us.

    • endangeredtrolls

Yeah it’s always fun to look back at older designs and see how a brand or artist have progressed. You don’t notice it while it’s actually happening.. but then you do when you suddenly look backwards.

It’s an incredible piece and I know he’s proud of it too ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Kim

This is gorgeous, and I’m so looking forward to the event. Thinking on the GLB events I’ve attended in person, it just happens that the times I’ve gone in person have all been times when Alex has been there. And a large portion of my money on those events has gone to him! It’s very exciting to be able to browse his work in person, and definitely makes the trip worthwhile all by itself. And when you add in Julia and Alexey (who got most of the rest of my money!), Ohm and the Troll team, well…the mind just spins. Thanks to everyone at GLB for all the work in putting together this amazing event.

    • endangeredtrolls

Glad to hear that you’re looking forward to it ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Jenifer

Victoria, for planning purposes, if I canโ€™t get to Cleveland/Mentor until Saturday morning how much event stuff would I be missing and how likely will it be that these beads will be gone by then? 100-ish beads, esp sought after beads, can go fast even when they cost $165.

    • endangeredtrolls

We’ll be making sure there are beads available each day ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Tanya

Yes, good point. Wonโ€™t be able to get there until Saturday. Will there be enough left? Is there (hopefully) a cap on how many we can purchase?

      • endangeredtrolls

Yes we will be limiting how many people can purchase in store. We’ll ensure there are stocks for all three days ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Tanya

          Thanks again Victoria. ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Jenifer

Thank you! I was pretty sure youโ€™d have a plan but I got a bit panicky and needed a bit of reassurance.

          • endangeredtrolls

            We got a plan!
(I actually have many many many plans every day but that’s another story :D)

  13. Nancy

It is sad that those of us that cannot afford to travel across the country cannot get the bead – everyone is assuming there will be no beads left for sale on-line

    • endangeredtrolls

There will be a ton of beads online throughout the weekend. We’re working hard to ensure we have good inventory. Unfortunately some products are limited. This one is very limited. We can’t expect artisans to pump out hundreds and hundreds of beads for us. It’s just not viable. It’s not how they work.

When it comes to a design like this with so few available, the only thing we can do is prioritise those attending in store.

As far as possible we will be doing as we always have and splitting our inventory between in store and online. With this particular design, we just can’t ๐Ÿ™

  14. Jenifer

I like this bead and plan on buying it. But … and donโ€™t kill me for this … but I donโ€™t love it like I love the pictures of Sakura. Which of course I missed out on (unless I suck it up and get one of the last gold flower ones) or Dragon and Phoenix.

    • endangeredtrolls

Honestly if you love the Sakura Barrel – which I get because it’s beautiful. You should go and buy it ๐Ÿ™‚ With the recent prices Alex’s beads have been exchanging hands for, there’s a chance that the silver would cost you more in the future than his retirement edition ๐Ÿ™

      • Jenifer

Oh I am going to buy it. If for no other reason than my little pea brain is likely to decide on May 7th that it LOVES and MUST HAVE the bead. Stupid brain. Today it decided to tell me it regrets not getting the Nian Nian. I told it that it likes Alexโ€™s Pisces better and if it behaves I will buy it some nice shiny things soon. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I do like the waves a lot.

  15. Megan

I hope the bead will be there on Saturday. When I went to meet Alex on his first visit, the majority of his inventory was gone on Saturday. To drive many hours for nothing would be upsetting to say the least!

    • endangeredtrolls

We’ll ensure the bead will be available on all three days. Alex is already planning on spreading his stock over the weekend too.

    • Nereida

Thanks for the heads up. Good to know. I presume his area will be a mob scene on opening day.

  16. Martha Olavarrieta

I love it, but then again, I love all of Alex’s work.

  17. Laura

Such a beautiful bead – Only wish I could get one but unfortunately far too far away. Will Alex be adding any other new beads to his shop soon?

    • Katie

Please forgive me for responding out of turn. But, Alex has information on his facebook page about new beads. He also has a small preview of a couple of those beads on his website (home page of that, at the bottom). Glass and silver beads are shown.

  18. Elizabeth

Love this bead! I knew I would! I love the Great Lakes events as well! I enjoy going to meet up with my bead friends, some I have known for a long time, some I am meeting for the first time.

  19. Marie & Donovan

Very nice new design, and we look forward to seeing everyone at Bead Bash soon. Hope everyone has easy and safe travels!

  20. Leslie

I love the bead but cannot travel. A real shame, I am very disappointed… I’d just began to wear my Trollbeads World Tour bracelet and wanted to add this bead to complement my Japan beads. *sigh*
